„My dad has now retired from his job“ They cheer for his dad. „I have written a song for him- well, another one. And it’s called Orangenlied.“

Just here vibing in the comment section :) This is probably one of my favorites from the latest album. My father has Alzheimers, so this kinda hit me hard when I first heard it. All the memories, all the love, and all that passing time you'll never get back. This song is so deep, and one of the best works Henning has done (I believe this one he wrote all by himself). He is a multi-instrumentalist, and can fluently play several instruments. I always love to hear him play the piano, it's so delicate. Love to see that you have fallen to the rabbit hole of AMK! Just keep doing them. I still strongly recommend the Proberaum session version of "Ausgehen", it's such a mood & makes me smile every time.

For me, the most striking thing about this song is how much Henning evokes with one simple phrase. Medical science tells us that the sense of smell is most directly connected to memories. I can smell a certain scent, and it instantly takes me back to 1980 and my first visit to Germany. Without needing to elaborate, Henning hints at an entire story by mentioning that the distinct smell of peeling an orange takes his father back to another time, perhaps spent in another place with a special person.

As for the Forest Gump thing, it's also a play on words: Everything takes its course. --> course in German is "Lauf" Forrest, run --> run in German is "lauf" So, course and run are the same word in German, one is spelled with a capital letter, but of course you cannot hear that :) German: Alles nimmt seinen Lauf. Forrest, lauf.

I especially love this song. And I completely agree with you that the wonderful lyrics are perfectly complemented by the piano accompaniment. I's so touching and it always makes me cry when I hear it. Thank you for your sensitive reaction.

As far as I have been searching for some more infos I have learned, that he was growing without a mother who left them when he was small so he was only growing up with his father. I love his texts is soo deep and soo amazing. I cant get enough. I also have to admitt I was bit concerned, he is not very happy in his life, but than I see him smiling and knowing he is enjoying the music so much... i really loved the part he says you can forget the mother tongue once nobody spokes to you with it, and how can you really love if nobody tells you I love you....

Henning plays many instruments (like Christopher and Severin) but piano is his go to and all their ballads seem to have an origin here. This song is very moving and this rendition gives me chills every time. I get you and I am nearly double your age ;-)

The really complicated thing about the German language is that there are so many variations to describe an object, a feeling, a situation, the flowery language that makes our angular pronunciation special again, but is also often misinterpreted, and at school German pupils regularly despair of their own language and only later realise how beautiful it is.

Came right here from your reaction to barfuß am Klavier, these two are some of my favorite songs from AMK! Thank you for reacting, your thoughts about the lyrics are actually really interesting, have seen quite a few reactions to AMK, but you seem to actually get them. Also it seems like you have a really good feel for German, maybe you should try to learn it!

Wonderful song. Maybe the lyrics represent also the fact that his mother left the family when he was very young.
