I have the Ibanez AC 240 which is the same as the 340 but with black binding. Bought it recently, used for $150 from someone who kinda abused it. I too have some expensive guitars which technically are surely better than the Ibanez. But it's the Ibanez that I always seem to pick up now. I "connect" more with the Ibanez than I do with any of my other guitars. I had to do a lot of extra set up work on it to bring it back to life...adjust the truss rod, shave the saddle and smooth the frets. But now it plays like a dream and sounds great. Crazy, after 48 years of playing and who knows how many expensive guitars bought, played and sold along the way....my go to is a $150 guitar. There's some kind of sweet poetic justice to that. These guitars are built solid. Mine was abused, rescued and through my care, born again.

Great Comment I couldn’t agree more. My whole goal of this channel is to try and find more of those $150 guitars and tell people about them! Check out my other video, I snagged an Alvarez acoustic for $150 and it’s a incredible instrument!

Was the fret smoothing a necessity or was it just something to complete the set up? The truss rod I can adjust, the saddle I can sand down and I have some lemon oil for the fretboard as well but I don’t have the right equipment to do the fretwork.

I bought 240 OPN new in 2014, and she is in mint condition, sounds warm and greasy. Real blues lady, I'll keep her forever!

My vote is for the Orangewood; I really like the low-end tone.

Just ordered the Oliver . I enjoy the sound of this over the Ibanez . I have all Spruce tops and wanted a mahogany guitar . Can’t wait to play it .

Thank you for your review! I actually fell in love with the Orangewood Oliver and I've tried hard to get it delivered to Spain but there's no way I can get it. Your video made me decide for the Ibanez, so I'll be getting it in the next few days, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it as my first guitar.

Hello from the UK and a great review Joey, better than some who have been doing it for years :). I have an Ibanez AC340 on it's way to me, I just love the sound and feel of it. I already own an Ibanez GA35, a nylon strung acoustic which is my go to guitar. Good luck with the channel I wish you all the best.

I'm late to the party, but thank you for this review. This was a very timely comparison of these two guitars. I recently bought the Ibanez AC340 and totally agree with you. There is something about that guitar that I really connect to it. The looks, the feel, and sound all come together make this a tremendous guitar for the money. It's a very light weight guitar. I like it a lot. I did have to do a complete setup on it, which annoyed the heck out of me, but I liked it so much that I wanted to keep it. Excellent review. I subscribed.

Late to the party, but I prefer the Ibanez as well. I do own an Orangewood Dana, their cheapest model and I haventy really connected with it at all. The Oliver is quite a step up in pricepoint compared to the entry level Dana. Eventually I'll gift the Dana model to one of my grandchildren to learn on, since its 3/4 scale. I did purchase an Ibanez AW54OPN the full size dreadnaught and I love it!

Fine job, thanks. I really appreciate the fact that your audio is excellent, unlike many others on KZbin. With a shortage of guitars to try-out in person at music stores, it's of the utmost importance as a prospective buyer to be able to judge the tone.

Natural finished tone wood is an intimate sensation with a player. The grainy feeling of the wood makes for a connection with one's instrument and a satin finish helps for a better response from the wood. Heavy gloss or pick guard will only dampen your top woods sounds. That's why I avoid epiphone acoustic guitars, they're beauties but all that thick gloss actually weighs down your guitar. The orangewood is nice and deep btw, but if it's the new strings on your ibanez that's chiming it up too high I'd recommend Martin Bluegrass strings. They're also 12's but put out a folkie sound good for finger picking.

Hello Joey, I just happened upon your channel while considering a small mahogany guitar. A Taylor GT or American Dream? Perhaps the Martin 000 whatever...and then I found the Ibanez and it seems perfect for my needs. (As I don't 'needs it but the smaller size would take the strain from my bum right shoulder going over a dreadnought. Great first video and congratulations on ONE YEAR ON KZbin!! I happened to see it was one year yesterday.

Ibanez all the way for me. I own it and love playing it daily. There is a clarity that the Orangewood is missing that the Ibanez has to my ears.

God bless you brother. I like smaller body guitars also, and use them also for worship God. I have a Baton Rouge X54 OM CHB. Its a very nice finish and sounding guitar. I bought it for it's 46 mm nut widtht. I use Martin MA 175T strings on it and just changed to some rosewood bridge pins. But my doughter likes satin finish guitars and this video helped me to hear 2 of them. I would go with the Ibanez because it has a bit fuller sound and has 45 mm nut widht, althou the Orangewood has a bit crispier sound and I like it also, but in Europe can not find Orangewood guitars just the Ibanez or Cort L60 OM with the same specs like the Ibanez AC340. Greatings from Europe to every one.

Hi I don't know why you didn't keep making videos since it seemed there was interest. Hope everything is ok. Thanks for making this video it's just perfect for what I neede. I had a question as a beginner. Is there a way to get the deeper tone in those lower notes of the Orangewood with the Ibanez via string choice or some other means? I liked the way the Orangewood lower notes sounded when you first started playing it but not the overall deepened sound when playing with the pickup. Thanks for any help and I hope I don't sound like a dummy!

When some ppl watch these reviews to inform their next purchase, I thought it was nice to include the pick type so that we know more about the tones where hearing. I play Dunlop pt .73. folks!...your concert acoustic won't sound as good with delrin, celluloid,or nylon picks. Just sayin'..it matters

I have been playing the Ibanez for a month now and I can tell you they priced that guitar wrong, but to the benefit of consumer knowingly or not. I haven't played or listened to any other acoustic guitar with a better value, and I have gone through many. It makes you question why we even have to pay over 500$ to own a great sounding guitar.

For me it is tone and neck. If it doesn't have the thinnest neck I can't play it so the rest is immaterial.

I agree with the JJB pickup being much more natural sounding for just 50 bucks. I can't hardy stand the brittle quack of a piezo

-take the finish off the entire body of the Oliver (watch KZbin video for how to.. easy)... and make it an "OPEN-PORE" body like the Ibanez, replace the cheap-sounding plastic bridge pins with wooden bridge pins.. like the Ibanez has, put better strings on the Oliver like the D'Addario phosphor-bronze EXP strings on the Ibanez.. and the Orangewood Oliver will sound much, much better... like the Ibanez

The Ibanez is open pore, so it really resonates, which may be why it feels like it's part of you. There's no finish on it boxing in the sound and resonance. That is what that OPN at the end of the model number means, and it is *salient* to the instrument's resonance. I'm willing to bet the Ibanez feels "lighter" in weight, indicating thinner wood? The Orangewood has a satin finish, and it's a thicker finish that almost boxes in the resonance when compared with a naked, open-pore finish that lets the guitarist feel all that resonance. The Orangewood likely feels heavier because it weighs more, too. Here's something you might consider in future videos: accurate model info in your title. This is not an Orangewood Oliver, which is an acoustic model with a different sound. Yours is the Orangewood Oliver Acoustic-electric. Plus, you modified the Ibanez, after-market, so that also needs to be indicated in the title. Your title appears as if you're comparing acoustic models when both are acoustic electrics. It's great that you mentioned the different pickups, that there are different strings on each instrument, and pointed out that one has the pickguard and one is bare, as all these things change the tone and resonance of the instrument. Wishing you well as your new channel grows.

Simply not true. Ibanez makes some of the best budget guitars in the market. The Oliver sounds boxy and dull compared to the Ibanez. It’s not bad for the price but might as well go with the Ibanez, another plus is you can actually go to a guitar store and try the Ibanez and feel it in your hands before you make your decision.
