Really enjoyed this record! One of the most experimental and fun records of the year. I don't think you'll hear many records as abrasive and just straight up odd as this record this year. I disagreed with you on the Ulcerate record, another one of my favorites this year, but I like this!

That Ulcerate review was quite upsetting. It’s too noisy and compressed? The drums sound mechanical and sequenced? Did we even listen to the same album?! I’m glad he liked this one though. This is easily Oranssi Pazuzu’s best album.

Oranssi Pazuzu is like a fucking freaky monster from outer space that arrives on the planet on a meteor that hurdles through the atmosphere, catching fire before smashing into a swamp, the monster slowly pulling itself out of the mire weighed down by stone and muck, it lurches forward like a titan bulldozing everything in its path, it lumbers after you, its eyes put your soul into a trance and it's terror scream sends you falling into the shimmering void amongst the echoes where you die. This band fucking rules.

This and their last album just really speak to me for some reason. That mix of hefty black metal and psychedelic yet slightly depressive meanderings just crushes. I can appreciate the 7 and there are certainly one or two synth moments that catch me out- the phone ring tone makes me stop and take my phone out every bloody time but overall it holds my attention for quite a few repeat listens- 8/10 for me for sure!

Its been three years since this is out. I am still trying to demystify the amount of musicianship and experimentation fused into this masterpiece. Antony probably doesn't understand theory and harmony. But, this album provides the most insane and innovative sounds, rhythms, harmonies, and dissonant scales that I have ever seen in rock/metal music. I am really curious to see how they are going to continue with this direction they created.

One weird influence I could hear in this album was Radiohead, specifically Kid A/Amnesiac. I guess that's why I enjoyed the bleeps and weird synths because that's where it felt they were coming from for me. Oh also the second side of the 2 vinyl set ends with a loop that plays forever.
