@@Belatu42 Getting the S300 up there should be a proper challenge, she realy bogs down around and above 10k, even with proper leaning. Must be super easy to get into a settle with power state.

I’d be less concerned about settling with power and more concerned about having enough power to hover in ground effect with any kind of payload…

Have to admit the wee Shrike 530 looks pretty tight on that hover! I hear she's quite easy to fly vs the Cowan 500. But right now my love for helicopters in FS 2020 is back to Flyinside's efforts again with the 206b and the B47 - worth a try if you haven't yet! So immersive in VR! Great video, looks like some nice locations to pick up!

The FlyInside B47 & B206 have a gremlin in my system. They aren't consistent for me so I don't fly them much. Which is a shame, because the system and effects modelling is so promising. The Shrike 530F and Cowansim 500E fly so similar with my PFT Puma setup. The 500E being slightly more "lively" or "responsive" is how I would put it, the 530F being slightly more "stable" or "sluggish".

Pretty smooth controls flying the Strile 530. Maybe a helicopter to take a look at. Plus, that Orbx scenary is definitely on my shopping list. Thx for sharing

yeah, different surfaces and a better implementation of the disk coming over a platform edge... It's just nice that it's at least there for now.

I haven't flown the Shrike as much, as I liked the Cowan 500 as I figure it's a bit more realistic in terms of flight dynamics. However, the Shrike's rotor textures look so good, and it's not as heavy on FPS as I believe the 500E is, so I'm probably going to start flying it more. If you vouch for it still being pretty realistic. I ready your comment below about it being a bit more 'sluggish' and I noticed that compared to the 500E, also. It's easy to fly compared to that, and I can fly and hover the 500E just fine.

They fly so similarly that it’s really nitpicking to point out the tiny differences. The most noticeable one being that the CS 500E is slightly more sensitive on the pitch axis. The XP12 version flies almost identically to the MSFS version, but the startup is better and the rotor rpm modeling is better.

Been loving your content recently, getting back into msfs2020, I have question you might be able to answer, I’m setting up my inputs but noticed that the animation of the stick is not linear, so I started wondering what the most “realistic” response curve is for helicopters, now ofcourse there are multiple factors like the length of the stick, but in general should I just keep a linear response? Is that how real helicopters feel too?

The response is linear, the curves really only help with short throw controllers. The most realistic feel is to have the controls at the position they are in the actual helicopter. Meaning, even if you have a short throw cyclic, mount it between your knees and rest your forearm on your leg to use fingertip control. The rotor system dampens a lot of the feel from a real set of controls. There isn’t as much feedback as you would expect. The most feedback you get is fatigue from having to hold a specific flight attitude over time…but that is what the trim is for.

Good job! However, I would like to suggest that you increase the volume of your speaking voice when demonstrating a helicopter. My hearing is 67 years old and I subjected 58 years of that with playing the drums, so I know that I wouldn't be the best gage to go by when it comes to sound. But I also know I'm not the only one with a bit of a hearing deficiency😉 Also, the runways are most challenging in planes like a Kitfox or J3. However, that doesn't diminish the fact that you handled the MD530F beautifully at those altitudes! Rich PS I need to check out that MD530F and as usual, I always wonder if it's better to buy it directly from the Dev's website or, if available, from MSFS Marketplace? Does anyone know which choice would be better?

Thanks! I usually have the captions enabled just for that reason. As far as where to purchase, you get more options including weapons if you go direct to the devs website.

@@Belatu42 Thank you!! Unfortunately, I dropped the ball on that one. I bought the MD530F from Marketplace about an hour after I watched your video. Later, I found out that it could've been purchased from the dev's website. I found out that they do have a weapons loadout but I don't usually load up the weapon systems. Shrike is a new addition to Blackbird sims and Blackbird Sims used to be known as "Milviz", (Military Visualizations). I wrote user guides for the Milviz/FSX aircraft for about 7 or 8 years, (I started around 2012, I think). My first user guide for Milviz was also for one of my favorite planes; the F-86F30 for FSX. I only wish Colin Pearson, (Milviz/Blackbird Sim founder), would develop the F-86F for MSFS. I have to reason out that there's something keeping him from doing that. I haven't spoke with him since 2021. I should shoot him an email and see if I could persuade him to create one for MSFS.

You’re really not missing much, and you have to disable crash detection to use the weapons load out. I fly civi anyway, even in DCS. I would love to see a F86 in MSFS! One of my favorites! Hopefully your discussions with the devs are fruitful

Down loaded this helicopter removed the doors and went to fly this helicopter just keep crashing had to put the doors back on went back to the 500E cowan sim

The MSFS crash detection does not make much sense anyway, so I would just recommend to disable it. But the Cowansim 500E is very nice as well, just veeeery twitchy.

You have to disable crash detection for doors off and weapons loadout versions of the 530F.
