Today we are taking a short flight in the brand new Alouette III by Taog’s Hangar around the beautiful Victoria Falls area by Jeppeson2001. I’m normally not that much into helicopters, but after having a lot of fun with GotFriends Mini-500 I thought it was worth checking out. Furthermore, it’s a vintage and unusual design, so it fits quite well onto this channel.
And I’m very happy I picked it up, it’s simply awesome! The visual model is stunning, the sounds are fantastic, there are a ton of nice features and it’s fun to fly. Even with the helicopter assists turned off it is very manageable to handle. I can highly recommend it and I could imagine with its good nature it would also be a good starting point if you want to get into heli-flying in the sim.
The only issue I could currently find with the Alouette is that the torque-pedals could be a bit more responsive. This has already been noted by the developer and will be fixed soon. As far as I know this is Taog’s first release, so I’m really looking forward to what else will come in the future, I know he’s already working on a very good looking Huey, which will be exciting.
For this flight we are taking it low around the beautiful Victoria Falls area by Jeppeson2001. I hope you can see that the Alouette is a lot of fun to fly and feels quite manageable, even in tight spots. Having said that, I hope you can excuse my horrible landing, it has nothing to do with the aircraft, but the lack of my skill. Maybe I should have landed in a more open area.

Those dudes are crazy...standing around while you were 'landing'! 😁 Great skill, especially the low level flying over the river.

Haha yeah, I wouldn't want to stand there and I also wouldn't want to jump into the chopper after it landed/semi-crashed like this in front of me 😅 Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it =)

Great video! Nice smooth flying down the riverbed. Low approaches to quick stops are hard to master. Start your normal approach a bit higher and think to yourself, forward and down, forward and down. Try to keep your landing target in one spot on the windscreen as you approach. If it moves down, lower collective, if it moves up, raise collective. Manage your speed with the cyclic and slow down gradually to a stop in ground effect at your target. Stay ahead of the aircraft (I know, easier said than done). Keep at it!

Question: is this as smooth frame rate as it gets with the best pc gear today?
@vintagesimulations

Sorry for the late response! MSFS is certainly hard on your system, but you can get better performance than you see in this video. I've got a good PC, but certainly not the best. I could also reduce some of the settings to get more FPS and running two recording softwares during the flight also has an effect on the performance. When I'm not recording my sim runs a bit smoother.

@@vintagesimulations thanks for the response. I am looking at getting me the latest on pc gear by this Christmas. So I’m getting as much info as possible

@@clint9040 If you're planing to get the latest gear you shouldn't run into trouble. One thing to consider is disk space, if you're planning to get a lot of addon aircraft, sceneries and repaints you probably should consider a large SSD. I bought my PC about half a year ago and got a 1TB SSD pretty much just for MSFS and I'm already running out of space. I'm considering to upgrade to a 4 TB one.

@@vintagesimulations Rgr that. I’m thinking that with all the games I already have I’ll be busy trying them on the new rig. At the same time I’ll be spending some time just trying/learning DCS and MSFS bare minimums. All these while I save money bit by bit for the VR head gear. I’ll be ready by flack Friday sales hopefully.

@@clint9040 That sounds like a good strategy! A VR-set would be fun too.

@@denisy6 Thank you very much =) I guess I just spend way too much time in the sim 😅 But as you can see I still have a hard time with helicopter landings.
