Definitive details for this medley are as follows Swingin' Christmas. Tx. BBC Two, 25th December, 2010 Recorded at Central Hall Westminster, hosted by Michael Parkinson. The theme of this medley was 'The Capitol Years' (though that can't be taken too literally - see asterixs) and quotes (not always literally) arrangements by Nelson Riddle, Billy May and others. I point to the original LPs being referenced. Opening & Closing phrase: It Was A Very Good Year *. (Borrowed from an overture devised for Sinatra's Main Event show at Madison Square Gardens, 1973, arr. Don Costa) Come Rain or Come Shine (Judy Garland, 'Judy', 1956, arr. Nelson Riddle) Come Dance With Me (Frank Sinatra, 'Come Dance With Me', 1959, arr. Billy May) What's New (Frank Sinatra, 'Only the Lonely', 1956, arr. Nelson Riddle) The Man That Got Away (Judy Garland, 'Judy at Carnegie Hall - In Person', arr. Skip Martin) The Trolley Song (Judy Garland, 'Miss Show Business', 1955, arr. Harold Mooney, also Conrad Salinger from the MGM original) Come Fly With Me (Frank Sinatra, 'Come Fly With Me', 1958, arr. Billy May) Nature Boy (Nat King Cole, not sure of this one. Original arrangement was Frank De Vol) All the Way (Frank Sinatra, 'All the Way', 1961, arr. Nelson Riddle) * Coda: Trolley Song reprise Overall arranger for this medley is, I think, Andrew Cottee.

Personally I prefer and get much enjoyment out of these purely instrumental arrangements. No disrespect to the vocalists.
@basilpeewit33504 жыл бұрын
Fathoming Fables Yes, I have to agree there with you on that. The vocalists are okay, but no match for the great ones from the fifties. The instrumental soloists are much more authentic sounding in that respect.

Vocalists are variable in quality. The less good ones can make you cringe.

Beautiful! The arrangement of Come Rain or Come Shine was inspired by Nelson Riddle's score for Judy Garland's spectacular version. And the trombone in What's New took me back to Don Lusher's glory days with Ted Heath and his Music.
