NAIL THE MIX is an online mixing school created by Joey Sturgis, Joel Wanasek and Eyal Levi - the guys who produced bands like TDWP, Chelsea Grin, Blessthefall, Machine Head, Monuments, Miss May I, Of Mice & Men, Reflections, Born Of Osiris, Asking Alexandria and dozens more of this generation's best metal bands.
Every month, NAIL THE MIX members get exclusive access to the REAL MULTI-TRACK SESSIONS from a REAL ALBUM, and a 6-8 hour live streaming class from the producer who mixed it. These are the actual sessions by bands like Gojira, Meshuggah, Periphery, Papa Roach, Machine Head, Bring Me The Horizon, A Day To Remember and more - and NTM is the only place in the world you'll get access to them!

This is exactly what I was searching for, I wanted to get a feel for how isolated orchestral parts sound in metal songs. It’s a whole new world for me, always wanted to write symphonic metal so I’m giving it a shot this year!

Yea, we just need mooooooaaarrr of the sympho-metal stuff covered! I’d love to see EPICA in the Nail The Mix, because we already have a lot of the extreme sympho metal (Septicflesh, Fleshgod Apocalypse), now we need something more smooth and nice.

About time right? Eyal & I have wanted to do this for a long time, but the hard part is not making people fall asleep with technical details and theory ramblings - so hopefully this helps, and more like this around the corner

@@JesseZuretti Ah well I don't think you really need to worry about that. If people are really interested and want to go more in that direction they'll watch. At least that's what I do. I've spend hundreds and hundreds of hours watching lessons about orchestrations, music theory, virtual instruments etc. What's making this video more unique is that it is tailored towards a metal arrangement which you don't find that often or even if it's mostly just people layering some string pad synth patch on top and call it a day instead of properly thinking about a more realistic orchestration aspect. (which of course is also fine, it depends on the result you want)

This is super incredible! Thank you so much for making this video. There is so much useful information in this video. If it would be possible please add “No rest, No end” to nail the mix. It would be super awesome to have an opportunity to mix this song. So very well produced and arranged song! 😀👍🔥🔥🔥

I feel like this is the kind of music that would actually benefit from an atmos mix, just from the sheer amount of layers in the arrangement dunno if thats ever going to catch on though

There are lots of channels who cover that. Personally I really like Alex Heppelmann's videos but also check out for example Dirk Ehlert, Blakus, Daniel James, Ryan Leach, JunkieXL (Tom Holkenborg) Also the Vi-Control is a really good place for information.

1) listening to classical music & soundtracks is the best first step - the same way we consume heavy music can translate greatly to composition. The more you listen, the further your ears will take you - and further than pedagogy, in my experience. 2) book I recommend: Scoring the Screen by Andy Hill - it will change your perspective about composing, whilst retaining your love for music and storytelling. It covers Trent Reznor, Hans Zimmer, and more - but also keeps it real. 3) the best way to learn how to program is to buy one great library and master it - Spitfire Audio provides free videos per library that can get you started. But learning the way the VST works, expertly, is crucial
