Thanks for the show. As one orchid grower to another, it's well accepted that orchid growing is a form of addiction, but what better addiction could one possibly have! I was very happy to run across your channel since I started growing orchids eleven years ago when I first moved to the mountains of Mexico from Denver, Colorado. I knew nothing about them and so I started an orchid club of other locals who wanted to learn how to keep their supermarket Phalaenopsis alive. Well now this year we just had our 10th anniversary of our annual Orchid Market where growers from all over Mexico come and sell their orchids and we give classes to the locals on how to grow their orchids. I grow my orchids outside under a shade house or inside a non-heated polycarbonate house which is always open to the outside. Our temps range from a low of 3C in winter to about about 30C in May (our hottest month). Most of the year the temps range from 15C to 25C. I imagine one big difference here is that although we're at 1,300 m we're in a very dry climate with low humidity in the winter and higher humidity the rest of the year. Our average rainfall is about 20in/yr (June-Spetember). The most commonly grown orchids are Laelias, Cattleyas, Dendrobiums, Oncidiums, Paphiopedilums, Cymbidiums, Phalaenopsis, and Epidendrums. Watching your shows has given me hopes of finding some more cold season varieties. Also like you, I find seedlings are harder to grow than larger plants. I teach classes in orchid culture to two clubs here in town (one in English and one in Spanish) and recently learned a fun fact. Do you know the which continent has the most diverse species of orchids? Actually not Asia, which would have been my guess, but S. America with Columbia having over 4,380 different species, followed by Peru with 4,000+ and then Ecuador, and Brazil. I look forward to seeing more of your adventures and I love your new orchid plants! Thanks for showing the name tags!

I have a Brassia Chuck Hanson that love my conditions here in Quito, Ecuador! Mine lives outside in the rain in a coconut lined basket. It flowers twice a year. But we have the same weather almost all year round. It lives next to Brassia Rex in the same basket!

Happy Spring! I love learning about these intergeneric Zygoneria. I hope to find one of them here in Brazil soon. I used to have a Zyg Sid Monkey, but I didn't know how to care for it properly at the time. On the other hand, I have had a Zyg. crinitum for years outside, and it's lovely to see it in its habitat.

I have a tetragonum too but not as tall as yours. Your flowers look like the alba version. There exists also a form 'var. giganteum' which could be yours but mine is definetily not. It re-flowers quite easily. I simply love the look of its canes. Beautiful plants, congrats! Many regards and happy growing!

I was going to ask about the tetragonum as well. Gorgeous plant you chose! I wondered if it was a Dendrobium tetragonum var. cacatua? Love the lime green foliage. Thanks for your wonderful videos.

I just went to other video and zoomed in on the tetragonum tag and it said v. Cacatua ‘Babylon Lime’ just in case anyone else was wondering🤣

How do you deal with insect infestations on your outdoor orchids? Maybe you are lucky enough to not get mealy bugs or scale, but in Oregon they seem to love my favorite orchids,
@helloplantlovers2 ай бұрын
I have different problems indoors and out doors. There's no magic answer other than vigilance and intervention I'm afraid! Mealy bugs and scale tend to be an indoor problem for me.
