Before you think x KZbinr or y KZbinr doesn't do videos to get views and subscribers, because they said so, leave them a comment asking them to set all their videos to private 🤣 Everyone makes videos for people to watch and even subscribe to watch some more future videos. Musicians don't go to music school just to perform alone in the shower, painters don't learn how to paint to display their art in their garage where no one enters and KZbinrs don't make videos for the nothingness of the internet to watch. We ALL want to be heard, to have an audience and to interact with our public, otherwise we'd set our vids on private or unlisted. It's OK to want an audience, no one seems more interesting saying they don't care, they just sound fake. What's wrong, or at least questionable, is to lie, to sensationalize everything or pull on people's emotional string excessively to gain sympathy and views. Not to mention doing bad or illegal stuff to get some shock value and views, that's just NO! Enjoying the subject you create videos on and enjoying making videos goes hand in hand with enjoying having an audience to interact with, so.. c'mon let's keep it real 😋 ps: There appear to be some frames missing, some blinks in my video, the yesterday one too. They are not from my editing software, the rendered video is FINE, it's a youtube thing, so I cannot fix it :((( will contact them and see what's what.

Yes, you are so correct. When I started buying other orchids I ran in some difficulties with spider mites and snails, I lost so many and tried to save them all. But, in the end I could not, so your videos and others has helped me understand the differences in orchids so I thank you for that. Thank you for being here to help those who need it. I have saved some and am happy for that. So keep up the good work that you do each day.

The miracle is patience! It takes about a month to see good root tips beginning and even then you don't want to take it out of the media to actually see it. And trust me, it's a miracle to wait and take the time required for an orchid to bounce back from total root loss, lol

Like your idea for the video in which you will discuss the qualities of different potting media. I'll stay tuned to your channel and watch for it. (And, thanks for answering my question about mounted large phals. I call the very large phals with leaves about 12" long "mule ears". I decided to put them back in pots with an organic mix that I concocted. They are back indoors and doing well.) Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.

Just want to mention that there are also biodegradable plastic on the market, though they are limited by temperature (max 60°C). But I've seen pots being made out of it too and being sold. The one I've been looking into is PLA plastic (3D printers use it), it's compostable and biodegradable. True, they're not that common, but they're out there, if someone wants to search for them.

I enjoyed the question about the sustainability of plastic pots and your plug about really making the plastic pots last. Plants remind me everyday that it’s so important for us to be environmentally conscience in everything we do. I’m in the same boat as you, gonna make these pots last as long as possible, until I’m an old orchid lady lol 😂 🌺

Hi Danny, i really need some advice about white mold on orchid roots. Ive allready lost 2 of them of it, i repotted them, washed the roots, sprayed with hp3%, planted in fresh soil, in airy pot and still, it developed and spreded like crazy!! In 4 days they lost all roots, i just dont know how to save them 😥
@chucrutecomfarofa5 жыл бұрын
Omg I have the same problem.... I'd love to know what are @MissOrchidGirl ideas on this mold issue! Absolutely every new orchid that I repot (after H2O2 and all), sometimes even after ONE night in new set up gets horrible mold. Spreads insanely. I lost a phal to this thinking it would go away - it didnt. What I have found helpful was soaking the whole pot (or spraying the top) with H2O2 again, let dry a few days, then sprinkle a lot of cinnamon powder (In desperate moments I didnt care if it got to roots and dessicated them a bit, compared to the damage that mold does...), also let them dry under a fan even or by the heater or something. I know this sounds crazy but I tried at all costs to make them dry off quickly. I repeated this process for a couple of weeks. So far it's under control. But it really depends, it still is an ongoing process for me and I'm observing. On another case I had to un-pot and leave a cattleya bare rooted altogether for two months no media not even around it, after it lost all its roots and mold took over in pot. I would spray or soak the naked orchid rhizome overnight in water every other day to hydrate it, and still did the H2O2+cinnamon once a week, and finally after a month, it started one new tiny root and sure no signs of mold, yay. I still dread the potting, but it is nice to know what helps, at least so far, for me.. What else helped I realised just lately, was that just before placing a new, clean orchid into new pot and new media I should let it DRY OUT, and then after potted absolutely not water it for a day or two. So far I'm relieved, two phals, two oncidium and a cymbidium on bark+sphag seem to be okay after several weeks, but stuck in growth. I check them daily just in case I need to throw some more cinnamon powder or such. A dendrobium nobile after two weeks of this hydrogen peroxide and cinnamon treatment in leca media seems to be clean, and has been clean for the past month and growing two new growths. At first I thought it was a matter of it being organic media, but this broadly happens on my orchids that are repotted into leca too. Phew. Good luck to you, and dont give up!

@@chucrutecomfarofa thank you for advice! I havent tried cinnamon so far, ill give it a go and see what happens I kept mine bear rooted for 2 days, sprayed with hp3%, watered it, seemed fine, potted her in lecca, next morning,mold spreaded like crazy again! I just cant find a solution that works 😭

Hi Danny. I currently have an oncidium with no roots at all. I've placed some sphagnum moss around it to keep the area moist in order to encourage root growth. How long approximately should it take for root growth? It's been several weeks, and the orchid hasn't done anything. I'm not sure what else to do. Thanks!

Try looking into black tea or using wood chip soaked water the tannins are supposed to help stimulate growth. Orchids receive tannins naturally from the trees they cling to in the wild And thankfully there are several videos online. Hope this helps.

I just bought 2 phalanaphasis orchid yesterday. They are both in bloom. However one is in a really tight plastic container with moss. I want to repot it in bark that I have. The roots don't look half bad but they look really tight in there and I don't want her mushy and I don't want the blooms to fall off. Should I wait or repot t it now?

Hi Danny! I just recently got an Fdk. After Dark SVO "Black Pearl" for my birthday! Her parent plants are the Mo. Painted desert and Ctsm. Donna Wisa. I watched all your videos about Catasetum orchids, and this one seems to grow very very similar to it's Ctsm parent, but it looks like it has plenty of live roots in the pot. The nursery I ordered from said not to repot it within 30 days of receiving it; there is a lot of algae in the pot, but the plants new roots just went into the media. It looks healthy, so should I wait to repot until the next growth season or repot it now into fresh media and a better pot?

Well, thank you so much for all of your help with phil orchids. I have never had any luck with orchids before. I used to buy them and they would bloom and then they would die right after. I’m so proud to say that my one year old Phil. White orchid is growing a long stem and I can see the buds on the stem and the bud at the very top of the stem is quite long. A patient of mine threw out two white orchids because they stopped blooming. I said oh no, you’re not going to throw them out are you? He said yes and I said well I’ll take them. Four months later I am proud to say that both orchids are growing beautifully and once again the side buds are growing out like a little worm and I’m assuming that is where the flower is going to be. The root system on all of them is beautiful and getting better day by day. I wanted to thank you for all of the education that you provide. I did not want to buy another orchid until I could understand them more. I believe my fault was that I was watering them way way too much and I placed them in full sun in the summer. I live in Canada and I would lose them in the winter. However you had mentioned in one of your videos that if we live in a cold climate, we should put them in the south western facing view. I did exactly that and now they are thriving because the sun is getting warmer and they are all Going to be in full bloom very soon. Thank you once again for all of your help and encouragement, Susan from Canada. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🕊🕊🕊

I need help! I have an orchid that has a termina spike, My keiki has a flower spike but it has not grown any roots! Is there a way to force my keiki to stop producing flowers and start producing roots?
@robynmitchell1995 жыл бұрын
Salomé Guzman you might be able to try cutting the flower spike on the keiki to stop it's growth. That might push the orchid into growing roots instead of flowers. Danny has talked about this technique in a couple videos about saving orchids.

Look through the older video's from Dani. She has a lot about orchid care, repotting, diseases and how to save orchids. You will eventually realise what you do wrong with your phalenopsis or what might be wrong with them when you buy them. Maybe you just have bad luck ! I have about 60 orchids and I know how to care about them learning from Dani. Don't give up, just keep learning !

I have killed 13 orchids in one year, all phals. Have literally watched every video Dani has put out and tried altering my care to try and make it work for me. They always die in the same way, a rot in the foot of the orchid that eats straight through the plant. After trying so many methods to prevent them from dieing I have come to the decision that it is something with my environment. I will be moving soon and plan on trying again, along with different types of orchids. Eventually I will figure out what works for me. I recommend you keep trying or even try other types of orchids.
@chucrutecomfarofa5 жыл бұрын
I would suggest you try different types of orchid this time! I find Dendrobium nobiles and Dendrobium-phalaenopsis to be much more resilient for me, especially when it comes to heat, or lack of humidity. Three years ago I killed 3 orchids out of 5 in six months and it took me 3 years to understand what my mistakes were back then, that in my environment my miltoniopsis were dry almost always and very stressed because of lack of humidity overall during winter period. But now I understand a little better. You will find a solution, watch a lot of videos by MissOrchidGirl and dont give up. Good luck!

what can i do if the humidity is 28 . that is quite low
@chucrutecomfarofa5 жыл бұрын
Water the orchid often, buy a humidifier, place a bowl of water near the orchid so it evaporates, spray the orchid with water.
@sippigrrrl5 жыл бұрын
Chin-Tsai Van De Beld I like to put my plants’ pots in wider, slightly deeper saucers than they need, and in that extra space surrounding the pot, I put about an inch or so of water, and put small stones or some clean LECA beads, but I almost always use pieces of broken terra cotta pots, which is probably the best method if you don’t want to add a lot of humidity (by using a humidifier) to your home, and especially if the plants are outside. I just sacrificed a couple of older ones that were too big to be useful, but since the terra cotta is capable of absorbing so much water, it will not only break the surface tension of the water - which you must do to maximize evaporation - but the pot shards will release the water to try to maintain equilibrium between the drier air and the moist clay, which is how all systems work. This is why anything that you put into the water must also be at least as tall as the water is deep, to break the surface tension of the water. If it’s 28% humidity, the water is 100% humidity, and the water will be more likely to evaporate to make the air that is in the immediate area of the pot more humid. Also, if you have more than one orchid, put them closer together, because plants not only use water, but they produce it from their leaves as one of the by-products of respiration, and that moisture tends to go right into the air, especially if the air is particularly dry. So, if you are having problems with your humidity being too low, that gives you a perfect excuse to buy more orchids! But, seriously, a humidifier does the trick nicely, I have two and I use them in the winter in my indoor greenhouse, because even in the swamps of south Louisiana, the heaters take all of the moisture from the air, but since I had my orchids in an enclosed space with a waterproof floor, I could run the humidifiers on timers and keep it at about 65-70% humidity, which would be too much for inside the rest of the house, as that level of moisture is enough to get mold to grow on the walls. I kept my orchids close to each other in 10”x20” trays with LECA beads and terra cotta pot shards and about an inch of water, and placed the pots right on the surface of the LECA and I was able to get away with only that and having a few clay pots (that don’t have holes in them) sitting around on the shelves of the greenhouse, about halfway filled with water, and I’d put a smaller pot (with holes in the bottom) upside down inside that pot, and I was able to keep it at right around 60% humidity with no help from the humidifier at all. The two terra cotta pots, one inside the other, with water almost filling the outer pot, would actually be completely empty every 7-10 days, and all of that water went into a 216 cubic foot area; not bad!
