I so agree with you on catts that have overly round flowers that have lost their exotic appeal. I attribute this to AOS judging standards. Some of the loveliest flowers are awarded. It also happens in tropical hibiscus. The pinwheel flowers are so much more beautiful than the dinner plate flowers.

Good evening and glad to hear we are in agreement. Well, I do like big flowers but they need to have some shape. Happy growing!

I am not good at picking favourites. The Sharry Baby is spectacular but so is George king serendipity and the phal peach is gorgeous too. I think I would have to go with Sharry Baby. While watching the footage of the four oncidiums on the table it looked like some fine webbing could be seen. You said there was some discolouration of the leaves. Check for spider mites. Hopefully not. It could be a rogue regular spider. I have been quite frustrated with mealie bugs myself. Mostly on oncidium types. They get in between the leaves of new growths where they are hard to get at. Please video the paphs when they bloom. Lovely collection as usual. Take care and have a great day!

Hi Beverley and thanks for watching and commenting. Spider mite - I wouldn't be surprised. That's why the plants are in isolation. Happy growing.

Loved the video but can I just say that the fleece over the growlights was a bit scary from a fire safety perspective! Even LED lights generate some heat and some of the cheaper ones are prone to dangerous overheating. I’d try to suspend fleece lower down, over the plants (also you could then be more selective).

That's one of the best Sharry Baby spikes I've ever seen. (I recently dumped my Psychopsis - no growths or roots for nearly 2 years! - now looking for a new decent one.)

Oh no. Did your psychopsis do downhill after the repot? I was thinking to repot mine but the more I read about it the more I hesitate!

@@GardeningatDouentza It was never a good plant - they don't like disturbance. I think if I can get a good one, as soon as I see new roots, it will get mounted. It can then stay undisturbed for years and years.

Great update Rachel. Your Phals look great, the sharry baby is amazing but my very favourite is the Rynchocattleya George King..., I find her colour very appealling, love it. Funny the colour on your Pinocchio, second time flowering this year isn't it? And your D.comet King is pretty well advanced. Hope you can get rid of those mealys, they are a real pain...
@GardeningatDouentza5 жыл бұрын
Good evening, Fernanda. It is funny about Pinocchio's colour change. It should be fully opened by tomorrow morning so I will bring it downstairs for viewing and checking. I think it flowered already this year but can't remember. It's pretty reliable anyway. Yes, mealies. Grrrr! Have a nice evening!

I like the addition of background music and have a question about your Rex begonias. Do they drop leaves and go dormant in winter? Mine are losing some leaves. As always, I enjoy your videos very much.
@GardeningatDouentza5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim and thanks for watching. No, Begonia rex doesn't go dormant in winter, as normal house temperatures. As an evergreen it will constantly lose a few leaves and grow new ones but if it is losing lots then something in its culture has changed, which it doesn't like.
@michaelmccarthy40775 жыл бұрын
I've seen a lot of pink Cattleyas, George King is still my favorite. The blooms are just the right size, well shaped and presented and the fragrance is just right for my nose. I wish my plant would bloom from both growths it produces each year (rather than only one), and if it would give me two directions of growth I'd be ecstatic.
@GardeningatDouentza5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have a wonderful strong and healthy plant. I hope mine can match up some day.
@michaelmccarthy40775 жыл бұрын
@@GardeningatDouentza well, I don't have the challenges that you do (space, light, temperature) for growing Cattleyas, so you've done well growing it on and booming it. My biggest challenge is not having them blow away in a windstorm. 😉

Impossible for me to pick a single favorite orchid. Sorry you’re having a challenge getting orchid bark for potting. I wonder if the bark of any conifer would do? Untreated wood chips-from Scandinavian lumber? Probably you don’t have a local source for coconut 🥥 shells. However, I wouldn’t put it past you to grow your own coconut palm. 🌴
