Orchidomania Presents: Mounting the Ghost Orchid Experiment

On a crazy whim, I bought some Ghost Orchid seedlings (Dendrophylax lindenii) but I had to eventually take them out of the flask and 'plant them'. But what to mount them on led me to this experiment ...so here are some of the first steps. Stay tuned till the end of the video for a time lapse surprise.

Good job!!! That's how I did mine too and they grew well, it's just keeping the squirrels from getting them. I may try more down the road.

Niiice! I got a ghost orchid (more mature one) myself this year from Grossräschner. I put it on a cork brach, softly hold in plave with a fishing line. It's in the bath room, south window but in a shady place, sprayed every day aaand: Its roots are growing!!! 🌈 I've also read that a sphagnum on the mount is not a good idea. And growing in sphagnum impossible, because there are no leaf structures to photosynthesize. Good luck with yours! The glue is a good idea. Can you imagine how they will look like in a few years? Definetly a show...

What humidity do you grow these in, how many times a day are they misted-watered, and most importantly, how long does it take for them to dry once they are watered? I've had mine for a few years, but recently lost a few due to forgetting to turn the fan on. They are only in 50 to 60 percent humidity which requires misting 4 times a day and I turn on the fan to dry them out in about 10 minutes. I can't leave the fan on 24-7 because they would be too dry to grow. I also get algae issues because of either the p load in the fertilizer and the period of wetness. It looks like you've done quite well with yours, probably growing them in some kind of enclosure, and I'm considering doing this. Could you offer any help? Thanks so much.

Hi sorry for the delay...with christmas it's been a super busy time :) In this video they are brand new from the seller/breeder so they look good because they are just ''out of the box''. I did lose a few once I took them out. I have a computer type fan which can have up to 4 connected but I keep only one connected during winter time. It is on all day with a break overnight. I have an ultrasonic mister that turns on 8 times per day for 10-20min with strip lights for aquarium plants.

No idea. It would probably burn in direct sunlight...they normally live in the swamp.
