Fellow goblin here saw a few rules misses/mistakes. 1. Fanatics die whenever they roll a double so one fanatic would have died when it came out (and then again when it rolled a double one to hit the duke). However Hills do not kill fanatics (only difficult terrain which hills are not. 2. Fanatics move every compulsory move phase. Yours and your opponent. 3. You cannot place Vortex spells on top of an opponent. 4. Your Night Goblin warboss has warband so adds his rank bonus from his unit to his leadership. As someone who plays against brettonians a lot...peasants don't get the ward save from the lady. They are too dirty and she doesn't want to protect them.

Also if you double outnumber an enemy then a Fall Back in Good Order becomes break and flee.

Unless I'm mistaken as well, the warboss in the night goblin spearmen can move within the ranks as well so could have done his full attacks against the lone knight.

20:24 Actually in Old World you can hit on 2+ if your weapon skill is more than double your opponent. So WS7 hits WS3 on a 2+

@34:10 A subtle but significant change that many veteran players are playing incorrectly: when the charge target Flees and the Charging unit doesn't reach them, they move the FULL charge distance (Move + Roll), it is not a Failed Charge.

@29:43 You cant place Vortex templates on to units directly so the foot of gork couldent land on the grail knights so none of them should have died on the following turn as the foot would have scattered passed them but not over. Also you only get 1 fated dispel per turn.

Remember that Peasants and Men at Arms don't have Blessing of the Lady, so no Ward saves. Remember that if a unit loses a combat when the opposing side (totalling up all units) is more than double the losing unit's Unit Strength, they don't Fall Back in Good Order they Break.

"That's the end of orcs turn three and basically nothing happened"...oof. Game fail. Watching this I see they've not updated the rules at all. All the same old problems. Initiative is a terrible rule - always was. IGOUGO resolution still plagues the GW game line. They had such an opportunity here to make across-the-board improvements. Clearly not. I'll stick with One Page Rules Age of Fantasy i think. As ever though an entertaining battle report. I'd love to see other games on your table Winters. Maybe even stretching your gaming legs out beyond the narrow confines of GW?

@56:40 The grail knights champion would run away as the night goblin unit is more than twice his strength. Then, goblins would catch him (if You keep the rolls without the swiftride) and the Orcs & Goblins would win!

I haven't read the Bretonnia book yet. Does the blessing work on the peasants? Old fantasy, it was knights only.

Love you winters, and understand this is a first game for one of the guys, but there was A LOT of mistakes made in this one. Most have been pointed out in other comments so I won't go over them, but a couple more were; Pegasus knights only the riders get furious charge (it explicitly states this), this was big as those 2 extra attacks could've been the ones that killed Grom. Stone thrower only the model under the hole takes multiple wounds, so that Pegasus knight would have only lost one wound and still be alive. Aka the game didn't end when it did, should have kept going. Following up after a enemy FBIGO counts as charging but is still the same combat as per the FAQ, therefore the Pegasus knights don't get to use lances again against Grom. However they could have gotten around this by testing to restrain and then charging the 4 inches in their own turn, they just needed to pass a ld test. Vortexes move over impassable terrain and units, and pop through to the other side, aka the goblins would have takes some hits at the end, depending on how you were playing that ruin. Not a wrong rule just a gripe, why wasn't the duke joined to the Pegasus knights literally right next to him??? It would have stopped him being targeted by the stone thrower and losing 3 wounds to vindictive gaze, which was a HUGE swing. They didn't even need to do anything different just state he's part of the unit. I know this was a fun game of a new system, but i'd ask you and the players to learn the rules (especially of their own army!) as best as they can, and anytime in a bat rep anything's in doubt please look up the rules in question, and with the magic of editing we don't even have to see that! Otherwise I believe you are at best frustrating people watching who know the rules and at worst teaching new players rules wrong that they are going to have to unlearn. Otherwise love your content and long live the Old World!

I agree with your comments. But Lances says they can be used whenever the wielder charges. Morning stars and Flails state that rule of their strength bonus can only be used only in the first round of combat.

Great fun , nice to see Old World here, some things to read up about boys, i notice ; Peasants do not get the blessing. faited dispel, is only 1 per turn. horses can fight to. ws7 vs ws3 = 2 to hit. orc flee 7, so you move duke and grail 7, even when they did roll higher, they stop at point where they overrun. Hold with chariot, give ground you mean and the move back 2 inches. ---- scrap this ---- In a lance the champion is in the fornt rank, banner in the second. ----- scrap this ----- small arrow on direction dice, is only mention by rocklobber, not by vortex : but is debatable. Magical Vortex uses a round template which is placed on the battlefield, not touching the bases of any models. baron charge - Running Down the Foe: If the charging unit does not make contact with the fleeing unit, it moves forward its full charge range. It not made a failed charge - the charge target ran away. Furious Charge is on knights only, not mounts. close order on 1 grail knight , you need 2 models to claim close order, or being big.

you dont "give up" first turn. You just dont roll for it and your opponent choses who begins the game. sometimes its beneficial to go second. 28:27 since the duke is on a pegasus and flying, he can cross fanatics unharmed.

I can sympathies with sultan on brettonia just been knights for adults, when I first played total war warhammer trilogy brettonians got me hooked just as the knight models sold from old castle gift shop that was in my village as a kid! Years later I spend most of my free time on a brettonian themed discord (well it originally was before it became a hub for the mod author/owner and the community thats formed over the last year to stay in touch) and starting to get serious about my 5th ed/old world brettonian army. Also sultan and stylus, you do know how to treat us well! Surprise monkey too xD

Hope to see more of these as I really enjoy the style of report, the attitude, the armies chosen and the models. Nice to see armies not having to be big to be fun and you all come across as good people with a lot of love for what you're doing. Bit of a shame with this one though that there were so many rules mistakes that it was hard to get along with it as pretty much every important moment featured some sort of error. It really was too many unfortunately. Will absolutely look forward to more reports from you because of all the positive aspects, just hoping you'll sharpen up on the rules, something which will surely come naturally to some extent through playing more.

I like that this game plays more like a traditional tabletop wargame. New 40k plays more like a card game which I just dont really care for. Luckily older editions still exist and Heresy has been carrying on the more wargame style rules.

Really loving old world I have to say! Quick rules point though, Vortex spells (which I think the foot of Gork was?) can't be placed on top of units, it has to be placed not touching any models, they can then move over units but can't stop on top of them (it just continues until its clear).

Both wrong, it's a table that goes down to 2+ but only up to 5+, so a more complicated formula than either of you said. Double +1 is 5+, same to double is 4+, less than but not less than half is 3+, more than double plus 1 is 2+. Easiest thing to do is look at the table

@@michaelchampion936 No we're right (both of us as we stated the same thing). I did omit the 3+ and 4+ result because I thought those were obvious but yes the full rule is, in order. More than double 2+, more than (but not more than double) 3+, equal or less (but not less than half) 4+, less than half 5+. It really isn't complicated and constantly referring to the table isn't needed once you know the rule. I think people are confusing themselves with this double +1 business, its either double+1 OR more than double. These are just different ways of saying the same thing. More than double+1 however is wrong as that would mean WS 7 vs WS 3 would be 3+ (WS3 * 2 = 6 + 1 = 7, WS 7 is not greater than 7 so 3+. But it is in fact 2+ on the table because it only need to be greater than double, not greater than double +1).

Orc chariot is close order so turn 3 combat should have been a draw (which I think means the musician would have swung it to the pegasus lads anyway)

The fanatics were your greatest weapon and u didn't play it properly unfortunately. Never risk a long bomb release. Since now you can release it on your opponent's turn, just march right up into the face of the enemy unit, and when their turn comes around, then release them. They either have to charge through the fanatics, or the fanatics will hit them before they can move away.
