This is brilliant. When I first went into a Starbucks in Japan, the lady asked me if I wanted whipped cream, which in Japanese is "hoippu kuri-mu." I had no idea what she was saying and I felt so sorry for her. The defeated look in her eye was saying "but, but...this you YOUR language!!!"
@Ninjapanese Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing your experience🥰 hehehe you will never forget "hoippu kuri-mu." 😉 I also made a video about ordering at Starbucks! Hope it'll also help you 😆🙌💓

The awkward interaction with an English speaker is every service workers' nightmare in Japan. I need a shirt that says "大丈夫!日本語話せます." On the back it says, "でも、ちょっと待って!"

I've been living in Japan for a couple months and I just go "これ" "これ" "これ" (Kore) while pointing at what I want, "S サイズ" "M サイズ" (Saizu) if it has the options. To remember "持ち帰り", I just think of that Japanese snack (Mochi) and (Kaeri), which means "go back home".

Your videos are fun to watch, and it really captures real life situation. Tennai de (dine in) and mochikaeru (to take home) are two very important phrases not just in McDonald's but other eating places! For the size, I faced a challenge when the person did not mention 'esu, emu, eru' but a different word, I think it was 'kodomo' (child) for small size and some other words for regular and large. Also, you can also mention for people who just want the burger ala carte but not the set. I forgot what was the word but i told them ' baga sore dake (そらだけ) it means that's all, and they understood :) Anyway really great video!!

wow I been seeing a lot of english loan words in japanese langauge, I believe that is the cause of American occupation in japan for 3 years during the late 1950s. History aside, because of the japanese pronounciation, I have a habit of saying chansu instead of saying chance when I talk to somebody xD.
