In 1971, when I was tapped out, we were given a red wooden arrow to wear to our Ordeal...it was on a white string...Upon completion of the Ordeal, you received your Arrowman Sash...you then removed your red wooden arrow and put it with your Scouting mementos...I still have everything pretaining to my Ordeal...the ceremony and the meanings were very well done...Different Lodges use different items to signify new Tapouts....the red arrow has been found to one of the most common and visual items....

@@disonsprodigy5909 Because it's appropriative of Native American culture. It doesn't matter how 'respectfully' you do it. Also Scouts are a literal pedophile cult. It's a shame.

Misappropriate Native American culture much?

OA Lodges receive training on the customs and history of local tribes. Most Lodges even have Native American advisors who assist with the ceremonies to make them respectful and maintain traditions.

I was a part of the Order of the Arrow. Do you understand the amount of respect, research and honor that was put into making these headdresses? No you dont

Many Lodges use advice from local Native American Tribes as per headdress, clothing, even music instruments...My Lodge is very blessed to have advice from TWO local very active Tribes...they guide our Ceremonial Teams on WHAT to wear, headress, proper dances, yep...there ARE dances you can use to celebrate advancement of individuals , they even help using proper local Native American language along with the traditional Lenape language used by Unami Lodge Number 1...The Order of the Arrow takes pride in using proper dress , songs, and dance whenever possible...NOTHING in the ceremonies belittles the Native American Tribes...I have been in Southwest North Carolina, where I had the honor to watch a new Arrowmen Sash presentation...everything was done in the wonderful language of the Cherokee...I cried tears of pride and honor...I was NOT the only one deeply touched by the ceremony...In the audience was several Cherokee visitors and parents watching the event...all wore ceremonial garments befitting the honor being bestowed upon the Scouts and Scouters...
