Great video Don! You are a Resident, not a tourist, which means you have the right to criticize when things are jacked up. You have adopted Ecuador as your home. I am excited to see the video with your friend in Panama City. Its one of my potential retirement countries. I have Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina, Italy, Spain, and Portugal on my list. Once my old dog passes away in the next year or two, I'm going to start traveling to scout out places to retire to. Love your honest videos about the realities of living in Manta. Have you heard of Tienda Mia? It's the Amazon for South America. The only reason that I didn't use it was that I didn't have a cedula.

Hi Don: for the past two years I have ordered everything from Amazon & they were all delivered via DHL. Shipping cost is always figured out and paid by Amazon during the order process. It is around $30 per order. I even ordered a very nice laptop. Shipping was around $120. All items were delivered safely with no problem door to door by DHL on time. DHL handled all custom and entry. All we have to do is answer their e-mails and confirm our order and address. I recently had a complete opposite experience with Amazon orders in the U.S. They have a new contract with USPS. 2 items were late. One was stolen I asked Amazon if I can switch carrier in the US to FedEx or UPS. They declined. So, in Ecuador Amazon orders and delivery are much more reliable than Amazon delivery within US thanks to USPS...

Always enjoy the updates brother! I’m very glad the power outages have stopped for now but I‘ve heard that they’re supposed to restart and that some of the countryside areas still have power outages. There’s actually an article I found from 2 days ago that has the title: Ecuador suspende cortes de energía eléctrica por una semana, pero crisis continúa (Ecuador suspende power outages for a week but the crisis continues)

We have Americans with bumper stickers on their cars/trucks that state, “if you don’t like it, leave it.” Well, guess what? I listened to a study today which mentioned that more than 9 million Americans have become expats. I know you love Ecuador and try your best to adapt to its shortcomings so don’t sell yourself short and I know you won’t let anyone do that either. I’m so happy you can get Amazon delivery; that in itself will satisfy your shopping needs. As far as Ecuadorian “verbs”, maybe you can find a tutor there and pay them to help you. Just a suggestion …. Love you, your favorite sister :D

Also, Tiendamia. Orders from Amazon , Ebay and I think Macey's. It's not in 5 days, but I've made five orders all successfully. What I like more than Amazon is that the posted price includes the shipping. When I've checked, shipping is slightly less. I live in remote Riobamba. I have recieved my orders with no problems 10-15 days.

No problem, it's awesome. I'm saying my experience has been good with Tiendamia, but to Riobamba, it takes longer . I don't know if it's the company or my location. I haven't ordered from Amazon directly, but I have compared shipping costs on the same item bought from Amazon through Tiendamia with buying straight from Amazon. On a $16 order, Tiendamia was about $32 and Amazon was was about $41. But I have also read that this difference is not always the same. Also, with Amazon, you have to check out to see the shipping cost. Tiendamia has it embedded in the price you see. I'm not saying one is better or worse, just an alternative. Best to check both on expensive items. I just received a $250 order for a battery for my cpac machine. It took 2 weeks to get here from Tiendamia. Strangley, even though it was an Amazon product, Amazon said it was not available. But Tiendamia, bought through Amazon had it. Go figure, weird. Enjoy your videos Don

I never been in Ecuador , but heard so much about living there…The good and the bad….I “ love both” the good and bad , there is no perfect place on earth…I am from Europa, but live in the US now….Listen to lots of beautiful Andean music from Ecuador…By the indigenous people. It won't have any impact on the local economy. Amazon has been delivering here for quite some time and besides, for most of the things one would order on Amazon, they most likely wouldn't find it here anyway.
