Just a tip for your next Japan trip. Tabelog is Japans version of Yelp. Also, be sure to check out the food basements in department stores. So many different and interesting food choices. Using a service like Yamato to ship your luggage to your next hotel/destination is super convenient so you're not lugging your bags on the trains. If flying into Haneda, you can take the Keikyu Line to Shinagawa Station and get onto the Yamanote line/subway to get to your final destination in Tokyo. Totally enjoyed this series! Makes me want to go back to Japan so badddd! Lol.

Any idea on the cost to ship luggage directly to hotel?
@030604lill

@@lbabe1996 from what I can recollect, it was super affordable. Less than $40 I believe and we had 2 large suitcases. Transported from Tokyo to Hiroshima and was waiting for us at our hotel. Made our shinkansen ride so much easier not to have to lug around our suitcases.

I'm in Japan right now and can relate to a lot of what you say! Someone noted below to use a luggage transfer service between hotels/cities and I second this: it does mean you're without your bags for a day or so but is so much more convenient than schlepping them around. They also mentioned going to the basement of department stores, and yes: the basement is normally groceries and a food hall, and they are AWESOME, absolutely stuffed full of both local specialities and international brands. Also, I had a dish yesterday that I think you might enjoy: Curry Doria Gratin, which was a casserole of rice topped with Japanese curry, then cheese, and the whole thing was baked till the cheese is melty and golden. The version I had also had a soft poached egg hidden under the cheese in the middle. It was perfect for a brisk day, hot, cheesy and comforting without feeling too heavy.

For airport to hotel transportation, consider using the Airport Limousine Bus. That way you don’t need to schlep your luggage thru the train stations (that have a lot of stairs) and you don’t need to be without your luggage like when using a luggage service.

I went to Tokyo and Tokyo Disneyland after I graduated high school in the 80s. We used paper maps for the subway. It was confusing but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. I went with my best friend and met my sister and brother in law. She was stationed in Misawa, an Air Force Base.

Like no one going cliff diving or climbing Mount Fuji here, but you are going to do other awesome things❤ This is great, just putting all the pieces together 😊 So helpful! Awesome video! A few other tips from our April 2023 visit to Tokyo/Tokyo Disney: * We found the trains around Tokyo to be easy to use as the video showed, but had all kinds of trouble figuring out how to correctly buy tickets for the train that goes from the airport (don't remember that being just tap in and go). The car service they mentioned in the video would probably be easier to use. At least look up videos for how to buy tickets for that airport train if you plan to use one. * You can use a luggage service to send luggage from one hotel to the next if you are moving around, usually you can ask the hotel staff to arrange it, very cheap and safe. We did this going from Tokyo to Kyoto. * If you take longer train rides well worth getting a bento box sold on the train platform. You would think a box with cold chicken and rice would not be tasty but all the ones we had were delicious. Some fancier bento boxes do apparently including heating packs that warm the food after you open the box. * If you like to stay out late beware that trains can shut down earlier than you might think, like midnight or so. * If you go to Kyoto It is SO worth it to wake up early and get out to see things, it can get super crowded there but very few people wake up early. The bamboo forest part in particular this was super useful. Some shrines and temples do not open until 9am though. * The premier parade spots in Disneyland have assigned spots on the ground, but the premier viewing areas at Tokyo Disney sea do not - still well worth getting in either park as the shows are amazing! * You can't book the premier viewing areas until you are in the park, this is a great use of the happy 15 early entry, that 15 minutes is way more valuable than you would think. * Super Pro Tip if you do have happy 15 - stay as far left as you can, as they hold the main crowd back just behind several entry gates they let the Happy 15 people in first - if you are far left you'll be behind lines being let in by several entry booths, not just one or two, and thus will get closer to a full fifteen minutes of extra time.

Great video and I loved watching the vlogs! I live and work in Tokyo and these are my comments/tips, hopefully it helps someone 😊 1. Nowadays you can use Suica basically anywhere in Tokyo, such as stores, not just trains and convenience stores. You can use it to pay for basically anything! 2. There are plenty of normal taxis you can hail just like in New York City! They are still more expensive than the trains but easy to find and great service. 3. As someone mentioned, the luggage shipping is super convenient. You can find the shipping counters in the airports and most hotels are happy to help you ship your luggage anywhere in the country. Super safe too. 4. I would caution anyone with an allergy or food restriction to be very careful in Japan. Look online on how to specifically explain your restriction in Japanese and print it out. Show that at every restaurant you eat at and make sure to confirm they understand while ordering and after recieving the food. Do not trust packaging. 5. The best bet for finding trash cans are convenience stores or Starbucks 😂 6. I hate the tiny napkins!! I am convinced it is just because Japanese people generally are nuch neater eaters then foreigners (esp Americans like me lol) The hand towels are generally used to wipe your hands off after washing your hands, as most don't have paper towels 7. About reserving seats at restaurants and cafes, absolutely do it. You can use a water bottle, umbrella etc Everyone does it and is even encouraged by many restaurants. It is to avoid being stuck without table when you recieve your food.
@OrdinaryAdventures
@OrdinaryAdventures 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for all that tips. Still hate the reserving a seat thing because at Disney there was literally like ten tables with bottles on them and ten people looking for a seat to eat the food they had just gotten while the people saving the seats were still in the hour long line. To me that is inconsiderate. I just don’t agree with it personally.

Hey guys, love the channel! One clarification for Shinjuku and it being a Red Light District. The area in Shinjuku you stayed, Kabuki-cho, is considered a Red Light District, but it's a very small part of Shinjuku. You are correct though in that unless you are really looking, you don't really notice it. In that area as long as you don't follow the Touts(people telling you to go into an establishment) you will be fine.

Thanks for taking us along on your journey. 🥰 I've been to Tokyo a few times and had actually just returned home at the beginning of Oct 2023 when you were taking off. At the time I was going through Japan withdrawal, so seeing you visiting many of the places I'd been helped ease the pain. My personal favorite place to stay in Tokyo is Asakusabashi. It's just one stop over from Akihabara, has a direct subway line to Haneda airport, and has some decent hotels which are a convenient 5min. walk from 2 subway lines.

Why do you like staying there aside from the transportation?
@dariusq8894
@dariusq8894 8 ай бұрын
@@OrdinaryAdventures Asakusabashi is a lot less busy than many of the larger stations. Plus I'm an Otaku (ie. nerd), so being close to Akihabara is a huge bonus. 🤓

I live in Shinjuku part of the year, and I agree it was super overwhelming at first, but if you have lived in a big city like NYC, you will figure it out quickly. With the train it’s just paying attention to the stops, because you pay by the stop and never talk on your phone while on the train. Always carry cash, because some places don’t always allow credit cards.

We are HUGE fans!! This series of videos inspired us to go to Japan next trip (2025). I loved hearing all the tips and seeing everything you did. I went back into this video to see if you had any links to your itinerary or planning guides, but I don't see any. Do you have any materials to help? (If not, i'll have to go through all the videos again and write everything down LOL). Any help would be appreciated!

Great video! In 2019 I stayed at one of those “good neighbor hotels” near TDR(I had issue booking actual Disney hotels). I will say at $129/night it was so nice(it was either the Hyatt or the Hilton). The dining was amazing, the staff was friendly, there was a MASSIVE arcade inside the hotel, and a free shuttle that took you to the train loop around the Disney resort. They did used to also sell park tickets right at the counters in the hotels, but I can’t confirm if those came back after lockdown.
