Canon should make the next R7 (II) with the same features and controls position as Full Frame like the R5 series. In short, just produce a FF clone with the only difference of having an APSC sensor

I think it’s unfair incorrect to state the r7 is completely useless at sports and wildlife. I shoot with it and get some great images. Unless you own it, learn it and shoot with it regularly you will find it is ok. Not the best but gets the job done in most cases. It’s very unfair to trash a camera going off your own opinions. Love your channel though

The problem is that many people only want to use the electronic shutter... then complain of rolling shutter. When you know what you're doing, you still have plenty of FPS with the mechanical shutter to make great pictures without the rolling shutter effect

Dreams for the R7ii, the AF of th R1/R5ii, faster read out speed but keep a mechanical shutter to give options and the main one is just put it a decent body i.e. the R6 body and the option to add a battery grip then I would go for it no questions asked as I love the feel of my 7D with a battery grip makes using big lenses easier as it help to keep things balanced and the ease of shooting vertically with a grip plus the extra battery life gained by having a grip. The R7 should be a Pro level or at least top end enthusiasts camera and the current R7 doesn’t feel like it is

One of the things I really like about the R7 is it's lightweight compactness. It makes an ideal hiking camera.
@alexmacdonald1732
@alexmacdonald1732 15 күн бұрын
That's why I would say it would be better to have the option of a battery grip over say being in a R3 style body. The R6 body isn't that much bigger or heavier especially when compared to a DSLR like a 7D. I love having the option of a battery grip on my 7D as if I am taking up a mountain it comes off but most of the time I keep it on.

Canon has to come out with a decent crop camera, 40MP or more, decent noise handling, advance autofocus, etc this year or I’m seriously considering jumping to Nikon. I absolutely love my RF100-500 and would stay with Canon for extra reach in camera for wildlife. Nikon seems to be developing lenses for the mid range wildlife photographers. With Canon, your options for more reach get crazy at $12,000 and go up from there!
@jeremiahsrandomness1692

Why does everyone want a 40 mp apsc sensor? That's the equivalent of around 100mp on a full frame. Most lenses can't resolve that must detail.

@@adamwhittingham86 I want to stick with Canon. The R5 with the 100-500 is awesome. I’m reluctant to buy anything else at this point. They just need to build out their products for wildlife photography in a middle price range. Weight and reach with decent performance is what I have my eye on. I’m actually flexible on brand. Seems to me Nikon jumped the serious amateur market and Canon might be catching up. Just my opinion.

Thanks for your thoughts, as always Simon. Global shutter will increase noise levels. You can do wildlife photography with the R7 and the 1st curtain electronic shutter quite successfully, the electronic shutter is deficient and wild life precapture is a bit hit and miss, panning shots using the R7's electronic shutter is impossible.

Global shutter sensors are still very new. There are still lots of challenges with them. Could Canon resolve enough of these issues for them to produce a solid camera?
@martinhommel9967

@@OrdinaryFilmmakerthe CCD sensors had global shutters, but the industry decided to change to CMOS sensors which solved some issues, but introduced the rolling shutter problem. There will always be trade - offs. I am hoping that Canon will come up with a solid offering. Perhaps a partially stacked sensor will be their solution to balancing costs and performance

Considering the price of a global shutter, I can't see one going into an R7ii. Maybe an R3ii, to compete with the Sony A9iii. The R7 came out at $2100(can) body only. Sticking a GS and changing the internals to support the speed of that sensor would probably almost double that price. An APS-C global shutter camera should be its own line. The R7ii just needs the Accelorator chip, maybe a CFExpress slot (honestly, 2xV90s does the job well enough), a refesign of the sensor to make it faster, and grip accessory support by reusing an existing body.

I think the best way to "shake up" a camera line is to release a new model that has great features at a competitive price. At least, that's what would impress me most.

"Flagship" and "apsc" don't go together in any way, shape or form. That would put a potential R7 MK2 into $2500+ territory minimum. It's a $1500 camera for a reason.

I would love to see a global shutter in the R6 III or R7 II, however my concern is how it will perform in low light. Obviously noise performance is decent on the r7 now. However if we lower that, it could affect the images quite a lot. I feel like i'd prefer them with the r7 atleast to just give us a faster readout. However if they can somehow, fix the noise issues (a bit like red did with there global shutter) then I wouldn't be bothered about that in the slightest...

@@OrdinaryFilmmaker I agree. Whether that's inclusion of a stacked sensor shutter or global shutter, well both sound quite appealing. The R7 itself however is no slouch in terms of performance. That's one of the factors that pushed me to Canon, that and Nikon doesn't make APS-C cameras capable of wildlife photography. Coming from a Nikon D3200 the R7 was a logical step up into mirrorless. Even if I find myself relegating it to a 2nd body the R6 MKii I have.

Very interesting, this would not be the first time canon has tested higher end technology in a lower end camera to get feedback back to perfect it and put in a higher end full frame camera costing much more. So it’s very possible the R7 could get a global shutter and after working out all the kinks put the improved sensor technology in a full frame R3 in 2026. 😊

The design of a brand-new Super 35-sized CMOS sensor with the model code LI5070SA has been published by Canon. The sensor is equipped with a global shutter and is designed for use in cinema and security cameras. First spotted by Digital Camera Life, the sensor could reportedly record 12-bit DCI 4K output at 60p, with a pixel count of 10.3MP. The new sensor isn’t going to be featured in any of Canon’s new consumer camera systems; rather, it will be marketed to other companies who may want to purchase Canon-made sensors for their products. However, we may see such sensors being part of higher-end hybrid cameras in a year or two given recent developments.

Hi Simon, that's an interesting twist .. but honestly giving the R7ii directly a global shutter while ensuring enough low light capability would easily drive its price point well north of the R6 line .. Based upon the latest updates from you & CR, I'm rather thinking about an R7ii with stacked sensor like yesterday's video .. BUT how about an R3ii with a trademark 24mp but the sensor being a global shutter in either APS-C or APS-H format ?? Potentially even sticking to a gripped body. Depending on low light IQ, the price could end up around the R5ii and it might make R5ii users like me jealous 🙈. Because 24mp APS-H would be equivalent to 47mp of pixels on the bird ..

But how many megapixels will an R7 MKII GS have? Max. 24MP? I would actually prefer a non-stacked but fast 30 MP sensor design with lower noise, just like the R6 MKII - in a R6 MK III body. Give us a R4 with a 24MP GS APSC sensor in a R3 body, maybe - and launch it simultaneously with the R3 Mark II featuring a 24MP GS fullframe sensor. 🎉
