I just had aboutthe same experience in the same area last week. I hadn't hunted that area for 3-4 years....in the past it was easy to locate elk there and it was way different this year. All of the elk I did manage to find were concentrated into a small area. Hoof rot has definitely taken its toll. I killed a hoof rot bull in 06 back before it was a known thing. I had thought that the bull had suffered an injury when it was young

For real! I have an ODFW retailer account so I can look up customer portfolios. After some digging it’s pretty crazy to see that he got 3 tags 3 years in a row and each tag takes 20+ points. ODFW is a scam and it seems like the whole industry is a scam too. All about who you know and how much money you have. #mustbenice

I’ll start with, I don’t elk hunt, I’m the Sherpa, there to help carry it out. So I’ll take the arrow and ask the question. Is there an advantage in moving and chasing elk around mountain verses finding a spot and sit and just call? It seems that when you hike over and around ridges try to cut off a herd or bull, things don’t turn out right. Thanks for a great story told through the lens of a camera. Skillet
