That’s an incredible amount of driving in four days on 101, as it can be slow traveling with RVs, trucks and all the little towns that you have to drive through. I can’t believe you saw all of the things you did, yet you missed so much and will need to go back and slow down, to enjoy the Coast at a slower pace. I can spend days in Yachats alone, just watching the waves crash in the rocks..absolutely spectacular!

That was the trip of a lifetime in four days. It's so beautiful in that corner of the world. Thanks for putting this video together. I saw that shipwreck on the beach at Fort Stevens/Astoria in 1958 when I was 5. It was a complete ship then, still plated with metal. I have watched it disappear over the years. I'm in better shape for the moment but it will probably outlast me! ; )

The Oregon Coast is the real deal. Some of my favorites as a local: Darlingtonia Wayside (carnivorous plants galore), The top of Cape Perpetua (dizzying view!), the top of dunes in the moonlight/Cleawox lake, digging gaper clams in Charleston, Sunset Bay/Shore Acres park hike, Antiquing in Wheeler, and walking and walking in Astoria (don't miss the Flavel house).

Yes, book ahead on the coast. You may find someplace but there are a lot of people there in the summer, which is when it's best. If you like dramatic vista views of the ocean, at Thor's Well you can drive to the top of Cape Perpetua (800 feet) for 150 miles of coastline...on a clear day. The fog hangs on the coast and it's there most of the time. Good Luck!

I'm going up to Portland and Seattle (early March 2019)...... should I take Interstate 5 or HWY 101? (if time is not a concern).
@rcole66794 жыл бұрын
For time, take 5. For a spectacular trip of scenery, drive 101 all the way. It’s much slower, but the scenery is awesome. Lots of little places to stop and shop. A few good restaurants too. Yachats/Cape Perpetua is some of the most scenic areas you‘ll encounter. You can drive right through Coos Bay...not as scenic and fairly down trodden. But, if you take the roads along the coast, it’ll be worth it. See the Sea Lion Caves near Florence. Smells bad, but very interesting, nonetheless. Gotta stop at the Tillamook Creamery for an ice cream and short tour of cheese making. The sea stacks in Bandon are spectacular and when the tide is out, you can walk around them. Go at sunset for one of the most awesome sunsets you’ll ever see!
