4:33 - Less rainfall could actually be a negative if you're planning an offgrid retirement where you're planning to do rainwater harvesting. Still, 14,260 gallons could be harvested annually with 1,000 square feet of roof area. 23 inches x 620 gallons per inch of rainfall on 1,000 square feet of roof area = 14,260 gallons annually. 20:19 - Why did that make me think of the three bears?

Lots of information, thank you. We are planning our retirement hopefully within the next 3 years. Southern Oregon is one location on our list. We will definitely get in touch when ready to make a decision.😊

What about senior programs, community centers, classes or other ways to meet other people if we’re new to the area? Also, what’s the political demographic situation (liberal:conservative)?
@BuyingSouthernOregon11 ай бұрын
Great questions! In regards to the politics, Southern Oregon tends to be more on the conservative side. Ashland is an exception to that, which is quite liberal actually. You can check out more information about the politics of Oregon at the website linked below. In regards to senior programs, community centers, etc. there are all sorts of places like that and various opportunities to meet new friends throughout Southern Oregon. I have included a few links that you might find helpful for that as well. bestneighborhood.org/conservative-vs-liberal-map-oregon/ medfordseniorcenter.org/ www.ashland.or.us/sectionindex.asp?sectionid=535 www.clubsixty.org/

Thanks, really helpful to see this about the political demographics....but most of the social resources seem to focus on REALLY senior folks. I know "no one thinks they're old," but we're not like those in these photos/groups and would welcome resources for newcomers in their 60's, not their 80's so much. What about air quality, relating to wildfire smoke?
@BuyingSouthernOregon10 ай бұрын
Great question! Like most places in the western US, we do get wildfires from time to time. Depending on the fire location and wind direction, it can cause smoke in the valley. Sometimes the smoke can settle in for a while and others it's here today gone tomorrow. So it's really hard to answer that one. Haha

but...can someone dependent solely on social security and a small pension afford medford?
@BuyingSouthernOregon10 ай бұрын
That's a great question. I'm sure it's possible but it would obviously depend on the specifics of your situation. Would you be buying with cash or financing? How much combined income? How much in monthly expenses? How much do you have to put as a down payment? Those are all questions that would be important to know to determine if it would be "affordable" to you.

Too hot in summer, too cold in winter, and traffic sucks. Been calling it ‘Dreadfurd’ for years
