I used to do quite a bit of thin panel work. Using a staple gun to fasten it down works well, but sometimes the staples can go to deep and end up pulling through. I came up with a solution that worked really well for me, but I did end up a staple gun that was dedicated for just paneling. I took the cover off the top of the gun and removed the piston and drive pin. On my gun they came out together. Then, I ground about 1/16" off the end of the drive pin. This leaves the staples just flush with the top surface of the paneling.

That is an awesome tip! I have a gun that I like but don't use that often for that very reason. Will shoot right through the wood. I tried using a regulator to cut down the pressure, but that failed as well.... would either stick up a 1/16 to an 1/8, or would shoot clean through. Works great on thicker material but the thin stuff... forget it. I will have to try your trick and see if that will remedy the problem! Thanks.

I would have great interest in how to do that to a staple gun as I build a camper once in a while, I always come here to OregonBatman to learn things from him

It's really looking like a teardrop now!! I'm impressed. You should do this for profit. I'm wondering if you designed this yourself and if so you did a nice job doing that as well.

The mini batcave on wheels has sure taken shape Al, definitely turning out to be pretty bad ass from my side of the lens. You crack me up everytime you raise up your thumb can't help but think of Fonzy, heck with your throw back feathered hair all you need is the leather jacket and a black pocket comb hey. Stay safe and wash your hands and I'll catch you on the next one my dear friend.

LOL! Fonzy was the greatest! :)

Yep, very important to mark the position of the spars, because once covered by the skin, you can't see where to tack your staples. Pretty tough to do that job alone, especially when dealing with contact cement: congratulations!

Love the shape with the lower rounded edges. Have you decided what you are doing for fenders on it?
@OregonBatman4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark! Those rounded corner set it off! :) I will be switching out the wheels and tires in the near future and will go with a couple of steel fenders, we'll see what that looks like.

Why would you use two different types of glues for the final roof panel?
@OregonBatman4 жыл бұрын
Hey Enrique... I used a contact cement for the wood and used a glue specifically for the Filon. Two different types for two different purposes. Thanks for watching!

@@OregonBatman Revisiting this question: On the top areas of the roof, you used Titebond II along the edges and what I believe was Liquid Nail on the center spars. Why not one or the other? Thanks!
@OregonBatman2 жыл бұрын
@@dwayneburbridge3283 The tightbond was used on the edges because there was good contact between the two surfaces. I used the liquid nails in a liberal amount to help fill any gaps on the spars. Hope that makes sense... Thanks for checking it out!
@Dusty-Builds4 жыл бұрын
I'm confused. In your last video, you said you were going to use 1/4" for the roof because the 1/8" left to many wrinkles. At the start of this video, you said you were using 1/8". From what I can see, the plywood you ended up using looks to be about 3/16". Did I mention I was a little confused?
@OregonBatman4 жыл бұрын
LOL!! I have a tendency to be a little confusing for sure! For my plans, I am using the 1/8 plywood for ceiling and roof. I think I made the comment that if I were to do it all over again, I would definitely use the 1/4" instead. The 1/8" bendable plywood is very flexible and doesn't lay flat. Maybe it was just the piece I pulled out for the roof, the ceiling piece worked great!

Hi. What brand and model number would you recommend for router? Thanks
@OregonBatman4 жыл бұрын
Hi FP T! I am sort of partial to Bosch, and use a Bosch Colt 1 hp trim router. I also have a larger Bosch 1/2" shank for the big jobs. Dewalt has a pretty good router also, DWP611PK. I own a Porter Cable router and use occasionally... little noisier than Bosch. But my go-to is the Bosch Colt. Thanks for the question.... Cheers!
