After I became an empty nester, I turned one of the bedrooms into a "Yarn Room"!! I have Ikea Kalax shelving, dressers and a closet that stores all my yarn, pattern books (yours is in there!), patterns and all my knitting/crochet tools needed-as well as a comfortable chair & ottoman so I can watch tv and enjoy my surroundings!! I feel very fortunate to have this space that is MINE and it truly is my place to go for positive energy, peace and joy❤

It's always fun to see how other people organize their yarn! I have a craftroom and mine is all stored on shelves so that I can see what I have. I do wish I had a glass cabinet like yours but the open shelves work just fine. I have two smaller bookcase type shelves for my wool and then another bookshelf and a cube shelf for my cotton and acrylic.

My son and I enjoyed watching you sort and re-store your yarn. I have some of my (too large) stash stored in cubes in my craft room, with labels for type, all in ziplock bags. The rest is stored in weathertight totes (those with gaskets) in the basement, also sorted by weight and then amount (single skeins, pairs, shawl quantities, sweater quantities, and a lot with patterns), also in ziplock bags. The spinning fiber and hand spin is also stored in the same ways.

Most of my yarn is stored in plastic bins in my bedroom closet. There's more in zippered bags that go under the bed. There is sock yarn and cotton yarn in the office closet in tote bags and a few skeins that are just hanging around the office to enjoy and think about. My granddaughter moved back into my creative arts room..... so no more storage to be found there! Thanks for the fun organizing video Mina and for sharing your yarn!

Fab video, thanks Mina! I love seeing how people organise their yarn! I'd love a yarn room and a dedicated wall of kallax units for all of the beautiful squish, however space constraints!! One day I'll have a spare room to dedicate to my crafts! I store mine in a double wardrobe floor to ceiling (ikea pax) i opted for half drawers at the bottom (contains most of my fabric but not all) and half shelves and the white canvas bag / boxes that fit on the shelves (I thought this would be enough). My overspill yarn stash is in plastic boxes next to the wardrobe piled up currently! I have it subdivided into yarn for socks, accessories, garments / shawls, undecided etc. I also have a monthly yarn club for disney, and have also picked up odd skeins or had disney clubs from other dyers who only ran for a year - all of my disney yarns are together in plastic boxes. I have a lot of sock yarn stash so i have several boxes for sock yarn. I'm in the process of trying to add it all to ravelry at the moment, so i also have 2 random cardboard boxes of yarns i have added to stash but cant add to my normal storage because the places it would go have not been added to rav stash and i dont want some on rav stash and some not, it's a huge undertaking to add everything! Wish I had done it as i received stuff, not left it forever! I'm learning from my mistakes! I love having a nice stash, I find it so inspiring! (my clothes are in another pax wardrobe next to the yarn / fabric storage one!).

I like this kind of videos! Now I want to go and play with my stash :) I have a Kallax unit from IKEA (4x4) in my living room that was originally mostly yarn, and in the past couple of years changed to mostly fabric as I started sewing as well… Now my most precious yarn is stored in two of the spaces, one for hand dyed, one for advents and minis, and then I have another for leftovers or partially used yarns (all with doors). Then, my cotton/crochet yarn is in another of the spaces (drawer), and any acrylic/for crochet is in boxes in the garage. I like how “crochet” yarn is separate and usually just cotton or acrylic, crochet is faster but knitting gets most of my handdyed yarn for sure ❤

I love seeing how people organize their yarn. Everyone's organization is very unique to how they use their yarn. 95% of my yarn is in bins in the walk-in closet in one of the spare bedrooms of the house. It is organized by weight of yarn, although I have a bin full of Sweater quantities of Fingering weight (I also run warm and a fingering weight sweater is what I need even in the depths of a Canadian winter) and the last 5% is almost exclusively sock yarn and it sits in a big basket in the TV room so that when I finish a pair of socks I can start another pair without needing to go downstairs.

Oh, to have a whole shelf dedicated to handspun. Someday! It must feel nice to have your space more organized, and the cabinet looks lovely. My yarn is mostly in the guestroom/office in a couple of clear plastic tubs, cardboard boxes, and a big basket, nothing very exciting to look at. There's also a bowl of non-sock scraps on the piano in the living room, though I'd like to get that one cleared out as I finish some stashbuster projects.

I store my yarn on an open shelf (well, I should really say "shelves") in clear plastic bags to save it from collecting dust. Usually, I organize it by hand dyed, weight, or brand. Nothing fancy or too exciting, but it does the job! I loved watching how you organize yours 😍

All mini skeins are in a smaller flat tub so I can look through it easier. Cotton yarn is in a box also. Most of these have their location noted on my Rav page as about 99% of my yarn is listed there. It was the only way I could keep track of it over the years.

My yarn is mostly in a giant 5x5 IKEA cube system full of bins. I sort by weight and/or by fiber if I have an abundance of one type (such as wool, cotton, synthetics, etc). I have all sock yarn kept together because socks are an all the time thing, probably 2 full bins of full sock yarn skeins and a bin of the ends-bits. One cube is dedicated to sweater quantities and one or two cubes are for yarns I have set aside for specific “one-day-when-I-wanna” projects kept with the intended pattern. And to be honest, there are additional places around the house that somehow have yarn stashed there as well. (I may need a 12 step program…LOL) A friend recently told me that knitting is one craft/hobby and buying yarn is an entirely different hobby. Thank you for inspiring me to go through my stash and get a fresh look. Long time follower from the very first video and have enjoyed all of them. XOXO

My craft room is also my office which means I have to keep things tidy, but it's nice to be surrounded by my inspiration all the time! My yarn is stored (mostly) in three cubes of my Kallax unit. I bought the X-shaped dividers that slide in and I try and organise it by weight and by usage. I have a database telling me where everything is because some of it gets shoved to the back out of sight and I forget about it! I remember doing your Around the World in 8 socks, particularly love the New York colourway and the Dubai bundle.

I bought tons of extra large hamper bags that close from H&M to store most of my yarns and the rest are in ikea storage bins with lids. I try to keep them separated by seasonal yarns so that I don’t have to rummage through them looking for cotton yarns in summer and wool for winter. Would love to make them more visible by using ikea bookcases but I like the fact that they aren’t subjected to harsh sunlight and environmental odors from cooking (or burning most times in my case). You did a great job in sorting and organizing your stash. Hope your knees recovered. 😊 What a lovely giveaway - such gorgeous bundles. Thank you so much for sharing them.

The rest (mostly leftovers and some random bits and bobs) is just in a box in the office, in a Kallax 😅

I love this topic! I have hit yarn organization nirvana with my current setup. I’m using an antique secretary desk. In the cupboards under the desk I have my yarn organized by weight in boxes. Inside the boxes they are separated in plastic/ zip lock bags I’m forever reusing. On the little shelves inside the desk are my upcoming projects in project bags. There’s a shallow drawer at the top that houses all the notions and needles. A basket on top for all the sock yarn (separated by quantity with more plastic bags). Everything is easy to find and protected (I also have lavender bags everywhere), but it is all camouflaged to the uninitiated 😂 Fiber is stored in a basket somewhere else, and scrap yarn in a blanket basket next to where I sit to knit.

I store my yarn in an antique hutch. It's one of my favorite pieces of furniture. It has 3 large shelves behind 3 glass doors, plus 7 drawers and other little spaces (including a wine bottle section that I haven't figured out how to use just yet). Top shelf is hand spun, fiber, and some WIPs. Middle shelf is DK to Bulky, plus some random bags. Bottom shelf is Fingering, Sport, and some more WIPs. The drawers are a bit unorganized. 4 drawers are yarn sorted mostly by weight. 1 drawer is tools (home tools, not knitting ones 😅), 1 drawer is project bags. And the last drawer has loose tissues that a toddler shoved into it. The track has to be renailed so that drawer doesn't usually get opened until I fix it. The rest of my yarn and projects are hopelessly unorganized in bags 😬

Funny I should have this video pop up as I'm sitting in my craft room closet sorting my knitting books and decluttering. In this new to us home, I have a room with a good size closet dedicated to all of my crafts and projects. I store all of my fingering, sport and DK yarn in medium and small shelf tubs that are clear. I have sweater quantity yarns in splice bags that are compression bags. They live on the upper shelf. My blanket quantity acrylic blend is in the guest room next door, under the bed in a long zippered clothing storage bag. My wool worsted remnants are all in another bag of the same type on the other side of the bed. I have the vintage acrylic that was donated to me in a small footlocker also in the guest room. I'm not buying much yarn these days because I'm using my stash. It's been fun to make scrap blankets as gifts and with the bits I've collected over the last 12yrs or more, I will be making cozy blankets for my family for a long time❤

My yarn is stored in a cabinet with afghan qualities in plastic tubs. I find I keep it more organized by dividing it up. You gave me ideas on storage and how you divide it up. Thanks. 🤓

I weirdly enjoy watching yarn sorting/wip sorting/frog or finish type podcasts! They tend to inspire me. My yarn is stored literally in every corner of our bedroom in clear storage boxes mostly. In theory it should all be easy to view but always tends to get in a mess! Xx

I have a cabinet for wool and divide it up into sock and ply’s. My second cabinet is cotton and crochet and a third space is for acrylic. They are smaller cabinets. I love your glass cabinet, maybe in my next life!😊

I love watching your videos! Thank you for taking the time. I store my yarn in my guest bedroom in several garment bags. I would love to have a better system where I could see what all I have but alas I do not. I have a thorough sorting session about once a year where I make a list of possible projects. I am about due to go through everything soon, I have a couple of projects I would like to cast on.

I store my yarn in plastic storage bins with gaskets.. My bins are in my basement on shelving. Mostly sorted by weight. The fingering weight is sorted by self striping and socks sets and hand dyed or commercial.

I am lucky to have a craft room where I store my yarn in bags in the wardrobe but you will still find project bags in the basket by my chair in the lounge. 💜

I have a dedicated crafting "space", it's not really a room, more like a nook between two other rooms. But any way, I keep my yarn organized by weight (so I have a bin of worsted, dk, sport and handspun. And then several bins of fingering weight yarns), and then in clear rubbermaid bins. Right now, they'll all just lined up against a wall because I like having immediate access to them. I could put them all in a closet, but I like to have them out so that it's more playable.

Before I renovated my basement nailed milk creates on the wall and put my yarn in the milk create designed shelves. Now until I find a way to do it again I have a large suitcase with hand dyed yarn and the rest of my yarn is located in public storage in large plastic bins.
