Hi! Thanks for the amazing video. May I ask, do you need to have the stage 1 of bps in order to perform occupational tests? Or can you for example undertake a course in the society to get this certification? Also bachelor degree's from outside the UK are not usually accredited. Is there a way to become Chartered if your degree doesn't belong to their list of accredited courses?

@salonitambe823 жыл бұрын
hello thank you very much for this information ❤ this is very useful also i had a doubt regarding I/O psychology that after doing the Master's in Psychology apart from internship concept do we still need to give any specific interview to work in the specific organization or something? And another doubt is that i'm currently doing B.A that is i'm in the first year and i search and see many Industrial Psychology videos to get more knowledge so i heard that in I/O psychology many statistical concepts are involved means the whole I/O Psychology is based on the Statistics so is it true? As i've also taken statistics so this isn't a big problem but i'm also not that good i mean i don't quickly learn & get the statistical methods so i want to become an Industrial Psychologist so due to my low grasping power in statistics/mathematics it would be difficult to choose this career for me?
@mariagguerra3 жыл бұрын
Hi Saloni! Thanks a lot for your comment! To become a Psychologist, you always need to be registered as one, therefore, the BSc + MSc is not enough, but I would advise you to check the necessary requirements of your country, as they change considering the country's regulations. In terms of Statistics, I would say that they are extremely important in I/O Psychology (and even Psychology in general), but practice makes perfect

Hi, can you explain me the difference between i/o psychology and hr?
@mariagguerra3 жыл бұрын
Hi Akshit! Both deal with people in the workplace, however, they have some differences. I/O Psychology is more concerned in applying psychological principles in the workplace and these professionals can works as employees or consultants at a company, while HR professionals are employees of the company and might deal with different areas such as recruitment, selection, training, development, payroll, law,... I would say a degree in Organizational Psychology is more overarching, you can work both as an I/O Psychologist and/or HR manager for instance, however, your choice should depend on your main professional interests ☺️

Hi Maria, thank you for the video 😊. I have a question. What is the criterias of Bps for accreditation ? I cannot find this any website.
@mariagguerra4 жыл бұрын
Hi Yiğit! I'm glad you liked the video! ☺️ The main requirement to join as graduate member (MBPsS) is to have achieved at least a 2:2 in an undergraduate degree accredited by the BPS. In case you did your degree outside of the UK (my case), you will have to send your degree certificates and they will verify if it is accredited. Here you have all the useful information about the different memberships: www.bps.org.uk/join-us/membership

@mariagguerra2 жыл бұрын
In many countries, if you want to work as a psychologist you have to be “chartered”, it’s not enough to only have the degree. Same goes to other courses as medicine, law,…

Hi, this is helpful for me. Im much passionate to study business/ Organization psychology. However i do not posses a Bach. Degree, but i got 7+ yrs experience in corporate sector as im holding a senior position in HR. Some univ. Require bach. Eventhough they say that experience counts in applying. Just would like to know do you think it will be much difficult to study this subject, since this has been one of my career aspiration. Appreciate Your ideas/ suggestions on this. ?
@annabelspencer14243 жыл бұрын
Hey I think for most entry level Organisational Psych positions you need to be at least a Qualified Psychologist which can be done with just a Bachelors. In my country, Australia, you need a masters in Organisational Psych as to enter a specialised career you have to take part in the specialised education part of it to be qualified. However I have read that the HR and I/O psych salaries are very strongly related in each company! Meaning you can make the same amount of money in HR without transferring to I/O by undergoing the studies. So if you aren’t able to go back to Uni for 5 years (3 year bachelor, 2 year masters) to become a qualified organisational psychologist you can just stick to Human Resources:) Hope that helps
@annabelspencer14243 жыл бұрын
your experience in a related sector like HR will be very useful for getting a higher paid job when you complete your education but you definitely can’t transfer careers without doing the full 5 years at Uni. I’m doing my bachelors right now and I don’t think it’s particularly difficult if you put the work in to learn the material. It’s more about the time commitment if you’re prepared for that

@mariagguerra3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexa! Thank you so much 🥰 It will really depend on the "representative body" of each country. In case of the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (Portugal), after your Master's, you don't need a PhD to become a chartered psychologist, however, The British Psychological Society's requirements are different for instance! Check the requirements for the specific country where you want to be working. I hope I helped you ❤️

Does the accredition and dissertation apply for bachelors too?

I got my graduate membership right after I finished my bachelor’s degree, so my bachelor’s was accredited too (which is necessary if you want to become a psychologist). In terms of the dissertation, I just had to do it in my master’s degree, as in my bachelor’s there was no dissertation (it depends on the university/country) 😊

A psychology degree is flawed, massively.
@jbain47503 жыл бұрын
Why do you say that?
@CR-bc1zt3 жыл бұрын
@@jbain4750 I've made a larger comment on another KZbinr post about this and currently lack energy to explain again lol. But I'm 2 months away from getting my degree in psychology. 80% don't go into the field of psychology and it's not just based on a lack of job opportunities. You apply very little from everything we learn, theories, models, no longer memorise all the assignments. The fact you aren't applying it, other than statistics which again, is another flawed module because you don't do enough of it. Plus, it's boring once you're doing it. It might seem interesting in lay, but once you study in. Shite. Some very irrelevant areas.
@jbain47503 жыл бұрын
@@CR-bc1zt Well sorry to make you type it out again. Yeah I mean college is pretty bullshit 90% of the time, the only role anything before a masters program serves is to weed out the people who aren't really interested, and to make the school money. You're right that it's probably best for people to research career fields on their own time before they actually put the time in, but there are a lot of satisfied people in the field of psychology who would most likely not share your sentiment.
