Lazy Susans saved us! My hubby is the family chef for the 2 of us. I am the family 'organizer' and love The Container Store! On one of their white wire stacking shelves I put his coffee maker with coffee and filters and out George Foreman grill underneath. To the left I put a square 2-shelf kitchen cabinet white wire organizer. On the top shelf I put a plastic lazy Susan. In the lazy Susan I put an assortment of round gift tins (like cookies come in) and a couple of smaller glass beer mugs. All our cooking cutlery is stored in the containers on this lazy Susan. On the middle shelf are 2 long rectangular plastic containers his tea bags. Underneath that unit, we store the grease catcher for our Foreman grill and a bottle of honey on it's side. We have a tiny kitchen with 3 doors - but he loves to cook. There is a makeshift counter-height cabinet (inherited from Granny) that we use in the center of our kitchen as our 'island. on one corner of this island I put a 2-tier lazy Susan. Top rack has jars of spices that I use when I microwave stuff - I don't cook. And our tall pepper mill is in the center. On the bottom shelf are some spice jars that I use less often. The main spice jars that my hubby uses are on 2-tier lazy Susan on the bottom shelf of the cabinet over the stove. The top shelf has 3-tier 'stadium' racks for our least used spice jars. We uses 4 lazy susans - one on each of the small shelves attached to the outside of our 2 kitchen cabinets near the window. FOr our dry pantry grains we use a set of Tupperware containers I bought when my sister hosted Tupperware parties. I love those assorted containers - it was an expensive purchase - but I love the clean modular look in that cabinet. By the way when we moved in, we removed 95% of the doors and cabinet doors in our house....

Just an idea- With your pantry & the plastic bins. If you lifted the bin up & closer to the shelf above it, add a strip of wood on left & right side of cabinet that would be placed approximately an inch under the shelf above. (The wood strip would be snug on the plastic tote under the top lip of tote container to make it a drawer & then you can put a shorter in height tote under it. To use the dead space) OR if you can find the right size tote with a lip, then keep the big totes on the shelf & create the same pullout with a shorter bin on top of each tote... So each shelf would have a big bin & a short bin, the top one would be held up & off of the lower bin on the wood strips you add to the cabinet.

The oxo containers ARE the BEST, for another reason. We live in a rural area, lots of trees, lots of grrrrr ***ants**** grrrrr. Jars are great but I have trouble gripping and opening them. The little button on top of the oxo pieces is soo easy to tap on to open and tap back on to seal up again. The green pest guys who help us always marvel how our sugar canisters are never invaded, especially the sugar ones. Thank you for all your great practical tips!

I live in a poorly designed mobile home, wherr we maybe have 4 sq ft of counter space between 3 counters. We have 4 usable cabinets, one of which is the skinny type described in the video. We bough a tall cabinet with a drawer, and it doubled our counter space, but we haven't been using it as prep space due to disorganization. You can get canvas bins at Dollar Tree. I put spices I don't use often in one, baking in another, and the spices I use regularly in a plastic tray, so I don't have to pull out the bin except a couple times a week. With this, I condensed 4 cabinets and 2 milk crates (what we were using for a pantry) down to one cabinet. I put heavy items, like canned or jarred goods, bulk oils, condiments, and juices in a bottom cabinet, eliminating about half of my milk crates. I put ramen packets in a smaller canvas bin on their sides (not flat), and they fit perfectly in 2 rows. We don't eat ramen often, so regular dried pastas go on top. Next to that are drink mixes, nuts, and breakfast bars with a little extra space if I pick up baked goods for a small treat. This eliminated 2 milk crates. The other shelf is cereals, rice, and baby food. The 18 oz boxes won't fit on that shelf, so I repackaged in Ziploc baggies. When I can get more grain pour containers, they fit great in that space and I can still mix the cereals I like. This eliminated 3 milk crates. Then, I moved all of my cookware into the separate cabinet. The drawer on this cabinet is large enough to accommodate all of our knives, silverware, and straws in drawer organizers, and manual kitchen gadgets like canning tongs or can openers that don't fit in the size I bought. The other drawer in the kitchen is for cutting boards, the rolling pin, and restaurant condiment packets in drawer organizers. The rest if my dishes, small-medium appliances, and food storage containers I was able to condense down to only 10 milk crates, on a coffee table (that we were just gonna throw out) where we don't have to sit to see/get what we're looking for. And there's still enough room on the coffee table for the toddlers (1&3) to help with meals/color/play while my spouse and I are kitchening.

Oh, my goodness! I loved the idea of using flat, plastic bins as "drawers" on shelves. What an inexpensive (and washable!) way to give access to the back of pantry or cabinet shelves. Plus it would prevent things from getting knocked to the floor when rummaging around among smaller jars or cans. I think I might add horizontal wooden runners to the sides of the shelf just above the height of the "drawers" to keep them from falling forward when pulled out (e.g. by a child).

We had a 4 drawer plastic storage tower and when the frame got broken (yep, I confess, it was down to me!) I saved the plastic drawers and now they are in use in my deep pantry. I adjusted the shelves so that each one was just tall enough to fit in one drawer and each drawer has one type of foodstuff (like with like, as the lady says!).

Hey y'all I have seen some of these and I absolutely love them... Here's a few ideas that might help those on a budget.... If u need something for serving spoons and spatulas an wire whisk and don't have the drawer space or command hooks cover an old coffee can with contact paper and place it on the counter top for ur spoons and things... Reuse the lid as a counter top spoon rest by covering it in contact paper and adding a dollar tree cutting board

Our rental has a kitchen suited for folks who eat mostly out or tv dinners. But we cook every meal! So scarce counter space is taken up by cannisters. Scarcer cabinet space is for storing things that need to not accumulate dust! My tip: reconsider how you really eat, cook and your goals. We use a linen closet which is too small for linens for our spices. A little cluttered but it works for now. Next goal, finding a better place to live!

My pantry is wide and deep, so yes, some items, like cans and jars can get lost in the back. But for dry goods storage--pasta, rice, flour, etc.--I use Tupperware modular containers that nest and mix 'n' match in various stacking configurations. Need something behind? Easy to pull out the entire front stack, and reach the set behind. Chips and other bagged snacks also go in Tupperware; they always went stale with the chip clips. As far as using the door; I can't. My pantry is a cabinet, not a large closet, and the doors close right up against the shelves with barely 2 inches to spare. Back in 2007 we remodeled the entire kitchen, so it's pretty custom. We couldn't afford the pull-outs for the main pantry, but we do have one of those narrow shelves where the whole unit pulls out. I use that for the most frequently used items; canned veggies and fruits; oil and vinegar, and miscellaneous things like olives, pimentoes, canned chilies, etc. A serendipitous bonus was, the first pantry cabinet (floor-to-ceiling) arrived damaged, so the company sent us another. My late husband, being a woodworker, cut down the damaged cabinet to just 3 inches deep, cut down the shelving to match, and mounted it with its back against the side of the main pantry. It looks fabulous, giving a more finished look to where it shows from the rest of the house, than just the plain side of a cupboard. What is its purpose? I bet I'm the only one, or one of precious few, to have a floor-to-ceiling spice cabinet! ;-) Love your command hooks/baskets idea for under the sink, though; that area is my Waterloo! ;-)

I just saw this video and I love it. I would love to do this idea in my household, but I have a husband who just would go baserk with this layout even though he has OCD about wiping down a kitchen. He would never put things back when he was done with them (Like the chips for snacks). I am usually the one who has to put it away in the cabinet. He has his own way of organizing and when I organize he gets things disorganized again and I have a tough time looking for things I want to use. He would go nuts if I put baskets in my cabinets. But watching these videos are very inspirational.

awesome video and tips:) in the past few years, we have not used the pantry for food storage at all...since the cabinets are filled with daily use groceries anyway, we just put the dishes (glass,ceramic and stainless steel) inside the pantry and organised the groceries in the cabinets...daily use items on the top cabinets and new ones on the bottom cabinets...one cabinet is dedicated to mixie jars,chopper,etc close to a wall with outlet...I hand wash dishes right away and use the dishwasher to store oven trays, pans etc:)

Here's a cheap way to get pull out bins in your pantry: keep an eye out at thrift stores or Facebook marketplace for dressers for sale cheap. The part of the pull outs that are most pricey are the drawer slides, so find a dresser that has slides that are in good repair. The wood boxes are easy to make, even if you don't really do wood work. Just measure carefully your cabinet dimensions, you can even get the guy at Lowes to cut the pieces for you. (Or if you're really lucky, that dresser you picked up will already have drawers that are a good size!)

My favorite ideas are the dish pans from Dollar Tree, and the pull out bins for deep cabinets. I did a smaller version of the dish pans using shoe boxes from DT, for under my bathroom sink. Also, my mom has very deep bottom cabinets in her kitchen (and got tired of almost standing on her head to see what was in them) and a deep pantry cabinet. We put pull out bins in the cabinets and most of the pantry. The tallest shelf in the pantry is used for specialty items that get used only once or twice a year.

Love my OXO containers! I started using things like them when I lived in a house and had small furry visitors every spring and fall! I love the idea of the drawer units . I have some smaller ones that have outlived their usefulness in the craft room, might save them for the pantry and/or the broom closet. Will definitely keep this in mind. Thank you!

I just ordered a carton of large cereal containers of different sizes from Dollar Tree.com I will be emptying my cereals, and other such items into these containers and using Chalk labels to identify. I saw this on "Till Vacuum Do Us Part" and it looked great and would work great and now I am trying to decide which canned goods method I SHOULD implement.

Great video...love the soft clothing 3 drawer organizer at the end of the video...my tip: I LOVE my island...I found putting most everything in bins helped tremendously...keeps my light bulbs corralled....my keto food supplies corralled...I even went so far to put my electric skillet in a bin...which sits on a shelf in the island....I used to HATE trying to find anything in my kitchen island...but with everything contained....so much easier....the pan lids are contained....the plastic containers are contained....so much better....also, I found different colored bins...instant recall...in a covered cabinet...why not?(also, lightbulbs in the island may not work for everyone ...but it does for us....most of our light usage is close to this area.)

I have several of the clear storage containers from Walmart for dry goods. The problem I have with them is if I drop one or it falls they crack or break. I do have plans to remove the wire shelves from my pantry and replacing with wood to give me more space. I may use some of these ideas to organize.

I understand what you mean. There isn't a drawer in my kitchen that fits a utensil tray. Maybe each drawer could hold two types if that much. Way to narrow. I used the craft ones you shared and put dollar tree baskets in them to sort the utensils. It has to go in the pantry.

I dream of having a proper kitchen with cabinets and a pantry. Most everything is stored on wire racks in the basement. My house is over 100 years old and very small. I'm stuck, but I can still dream. I do love bins. I've been little by little buying Rubbermaid stacking canisters with the clamp on lids. I love how they stack, seal well, and are see through. For cans the best things I ever purchased are "Pantry Maid" can organizers. They are made of wood. They come in 12 or 16 inch depths, and cans roll from the top front to the bottom front, new in old out. I love them. They are expensive because they are not mass produced. Why someone hasn't bought out the person's idea and mass produced them is beyond me. They really are nice. What I need most of all is motivation. The clutter I have is overwhelming and my husband is a saboteur.

@@TheCraftyOrganizer I agree concerning children :) I'm a granny. No little hands. Our house is a very old country cottage. The 8' x 8' kitchen had no cabinets. Only a large closet that had shelves. Husband took off the door, lined it with tongue and groove wood and replaced the shelves. He put in electricity and a counter top for using crock pot and electric grill and put in 3 rows off basket drawers (9 drawers) with wood fronts under counter. He put a real butcher block top on a large base cabinet against a wall that has 2 utensil drawers and 2 shelved cabinets. Coffee station and mixer are there. He built open shelves above. This is my only work space for preparing meals and these shelves hold my jars of ingredients. They aren't in the pantry. A wall cabinet holds our dishes. It's been a challenge and hard to resist creating a cluttered looking room. It's so small. Organizing is so important.

Oh, wow, they are all great. But those "like with likes" idea is the best for me. I am getting a new kitchen by the end of Oct., so excited! All my base cabinets will have pull out drawers, no pantry though so those bins will be a lifesaver for me. Thanks so much. I am going to get everything organized with this kitchen including the drawers thanks to you.

Yes, I struggle with too high cabinets, and lloosing empty space because of the heights. I needed a stepper or ladder to get to my stuff
@jeanvignes
@jeanvignes 4 жыл бұрын
Try putting neatly labeled boxes of stuff you only use once per year in your tippy-top cabinets (e.g. Christmas candles or Halloween decorations or camping what-not) and reserve lower shelves throughout the house for things you access more often. I have a friend who is 5 foot nothing and that's what she does. She also keeps a step ladder in a nook next to the fridge, because even the second-from-top shelves can be a challenge--but as we get older, step ladders become more dangerous. Better to find lower solutions.

Norrine you are simply the most awesome organizer! I loved this video. I have a corner cabinet that has a large lazy susan that is probably 8 feet tall. It is so so hard to organize. The sides have little funny shelves that are like triangles. The top three shelves of the lazy susan are open and the bottom shelves of the lazy susan are made into 1/4 shelves. At the bottom of my cabinet I have about 10 inches of open space underneath the lazy susan . Talk about awkward space and not very conducive to organization. I should also mention that I have 6 boys that open and close the door. So I’m afraid to put anything on the door. Anyway, I’m going to try to do something to door to hang bags of chips etc. If you have any ideas for my pantry. Its probably 50 inches wide and 40 inches deep into a corner. Crazy huh?! Thank you so much for all you do. ~ Katz

I was thinking when you pulled out the plastic storage bin with canned food and you pulled up the can of corn, it would be nice to have reusable labels to place on top of the cans so you know exactly what you're pulling out., like for instance if you wanted to do some crafty labels, use either button magnets or magnetic tape, make your labels using cardstock or paper, after getting it as decorative or artsy as you like either laminate or tape both sides using postal tape, packaging tape, trim the tape leaving about an 1/8 inch or so overhang to water proof both sides of it and glue your magnet to the bottom and stick it on top of your can. That way you know what it is. Thank you Norrine for sharing your good ideas, don't know if anyone thought of this before me or not, if so please let me know, thanks again and have a blessed day 🥰

Well dang I thought I got caught up on all your videos again, but found this one (Bonny posted in group) and I didn't have the like button clicked...so watched and clicked like. Love it all...but wouldn't use the big containers like you did as it's too much weight for me to manage pulling forward. I have posted pics a few times in group of the smaller bins I use. I suggest anyone and everyone should measure their cabinets and pantries...know the H×W×D of each space you want to use bins in so when you shop you know which ones will best work for your space. Dollar Tree and Dollarama (here in Canada) have some decent ones for this solution. 💖
