Mel! This is awesome! ❤️ We (the hubs & I) moved into my mom's home in 2019 due to her having a stroke. So most of my things have filled the dining room in her house. I have been planning for years now to clean out that dining room & make it into a yarn/craft room. Mom can be a full time job & I work part-time as u know, and I have my own medical issues to contend with, but its ON MY LIST!!! LOL 😆 I need to stop making excuses and just do it! I think we all have those stashes of yarn that we purchased with certain projects in mind but have gotten to making them yet. It must feel good to have it all organized where you can see it and it reminds you of the things you want to do, I got storage similar to yours but in wire instead of wood; I put my yarn in clear containers and ziplock bags as I have dogs and didn't want their hair all over everything, it's nice to see what I have hoping it will control my purchase of new yarn. And you're right, I was reminded of all the projects I had in mind when I bought a lot of this yarn - and I even found some that I totally forgot I'd even bought! 😂 Clear tubs and bags are great for storage too aren't they? Keeps the dust and pet fur out, but your also still able to see what you have so you hopefully don't go overboard during the next yarn sale! Hi Nette 👋 Thanks for your comment 💖 Tubs are still a great way to store yarn though. I like being able to stack them so you can get them out of the way when you need to. The shelving I have is from Ikea - if you have it in your area. These exact shelves are called "Kallax" shelving units and they come in a range of different sizes.😊

Um, I kind of like to be inspired by the yarn and then make what I feel like at the time. There are some yarns here that I bought for specific projects though, which I guess I could turn into a diary? That was so enjoyable to watch, I found myself chuckling along and smiling throughout, you captured everything you did so well and it's incredibly well sorted now! I think I also enjoyed it more because I could recognise some of the yarn that was Australian yarn which helps you to connect more, saw the megalong valley yarn in there which was one of the strays. 😉 So glad you worked out that the lovely blue/purple/mustard etc variegated yarn is the hobbii cookie yarn, I noticed that when I was going through to put my order in and wanted to check back in to that video to see if you'd managed to work it out. Isn't that exciting that some hobbii yarn can make its way over by way of the mill ends bags!? You've got a lovely collection and I'm sure had a blast sorting it all, I've done most of mine recently and really enjoyed the process. When you showed the hooks on the back of your door for your wips I thought that was a great idea! I recently got some over the door hanging space organisers to hang on the back of a door to put more yarn in, figured it made sense to use that empty space and get some more storage space out of it, gets things a bit tidier! 😊 Really love the little wooden shelves that you repurposed, they're lovely and look great where you put them. And isn't it great how perfectly the boxes from that amazing sale fitted so exactly into the spaces at the bottom of your shelves, that worked out so well! 😃

I wondered if anyone might point anything out 😊 Yes the Hobbii yarn is sitting right beside the Moda Vera Valley Megalong and they look great! I can't wait to use them - I'm thinking maybe a cowl or something like that. What will you use your Hobbii yarn for? And yes it is really exciting that we have the chance to find amazing yarns like that in mill ends bags! It really is like treasure hunting when we go digging around in those bins 😂 I knew I wouldn't be the only way to try to use up door space for yarn storage or wips 😉 And yes, I was so glad the boxes from the garage sale actually fit perfectly in the bottom of the shelf - I was a bit worried that they wouldn't but they just fit snug as a bug, it was great! Still need to replace them with some nicer looking boxes, but I'm not going to complain 😊

Yup ... Monday was a HOT one! I remember having so little yarn!😮 Bendigo Woollen Mill is a wonder-ful place but, these days, I'm into their bags of fibre to spin (over 200 bags in my living room now). Organisation is key. POV: wool & wicker snaggle quicker. I've crocheted cubes to fit into a similar storage unit - looks great according to my bestie. Well done you for getting there - xmas hugs from Walmer 😊

Most of the time I'm sitting at one of the 4 spinning wheels in there!🤫 For the crochet cubes I made cardboard liners covered in pva & paper to stiffen them. Awesome job organizing all of your yarn! It's a huuuuge job to set it up & then it's an ongoing job stopping it from getting in a mess or multiplying!! I have a similar amount of yarn. However, I'm always shocked when I'm working on a project & need a particular colour of a particular ply & discover I don't have anything like what I'm looking for... or I have it in cotton but need it in acrylic or vice versa!! Ever patient hubby is now starting to understand when I have that dilemma. Overall though I'm working at using what I have rather than buying more unless I'm running low on black or white as I use them all the time as a main colour. @@MelsYarniverse I mainly use bamboo or bamboo cotton for mug cozies & eco-friendly make up removers. However, a shawlette or wrap would be gorgeous! Christa at The Secret Yarnery uses bamboo or bamboo cotton as longer borders on wraps, scarves, shawls etc as it hangs well & has a lovely swing cos of the extra weight! Enjoy! 💕🐨

It is! Yesterday, my friend asked if I had a use for the wine totes from the grocery store. Our local store puts wine bottles into these totes that are divided into 6 sections about the size of, well, a wine bottle, a skein of yarn! (5-7 oz skeins) At first, I thought no but took a closer look and thought, YES! This would be perfect for a multicolor project! I don't think I'd have to use yarn socks either. Your room looks great! Hi, what a great job done, looks amazing! I watched your every move and decision intently and with a tad of guilt as my stash is a bit like yours was. I'm hoping you will have inspired and motivated me to get stuck into mine. A lot of the upheaval has been because of DIY work ongoing and room changeover. Like you I have inherited my mums stash, needles, buttons and all. I had a fair few myself but like you I am also sentimental, which doesn't help. I was thinking of you the other day as I thrifted a bag which I am now using as a project bag. It's really lovely and is decorated with ribbons of different colours and widths and buttons. The buttons I thought were held on using french knots but on closer inspection they were finished off using seed beads. Very pretty and effective, just the thing to use up some of our button stash, if we can bear to use them he he! Thank you for your great videos and all the information and tips you share. I thought I might ask you a question, on whether you think you've changed your yarns/colours that you like over the years or whether you still like the same colours that you always have? I was wondering after taking in what you've got as I have noticed myself recently, I guess the most part of this year, being drawn to really earthy colours - browns, rusty reds, tans, caramels, then also suddenly liking different shades of greys and greens where I didn't have much of an interest in those colours really before, so I was curious what colours are your favourites and if you think your tastes have changed as your crochet journey has evolved?

Hello again my friend! 😃 That's a great question! Well, I guess I seem to still really love some colours, but am more open to newer colour combos, if that makes sense? I've always enjoyed purples, blues and greens together, but for a long time I was also very hesitant to use many bright colours as I wasn't sure that something bright and bold was a statement that I could live up to, in a way? That's kind of why I chose such bright colours for my hexi cardigan. I looked at my wardrobe and the bulk of it was black and grey business attire or jeans, and not a lot of colour at all, and I really wanted to change that. So I looked at a few different yarns and colour combos and then just decided to pick something bright and colourful that made me smile and use that. And because I'd put so much effort into making it and it was the first wearable I'd made for myself, I was (and still am) extra proud to wear it! So for me, getting comfortable with bold and bright colours is something new and I'm really enjoying that at the moment. I do still like using muted and understated colours, with a more natural tone to them for certain projects though.

Re: caked yarn. Many yarn companies sell their yarn in caked form. Not a problem.

Hmm, that does sound like an issue...🤔 Can you use hooks on doors or cupboards to hang some up in bags at all? Or maybe you can just label the bins so it helps you to identify what's inside them without having to dig through them? 💜🧶

Hi Marion 👋 Thank you for your comment 🙏💖 I can understand what you mean, I thought I might be a little overwhelmed too, but I'm actually finding it really inspiring and helpful in terms of planning future wips. Because I can see what I already have in my stash, I know just by looking at it, if I need to buy anything else, or if I already have what I need in my stash. It's very motivating, at least for me anyway 😊
