That’s a terrific playthrough, Jon. It kept me entertained for more than an hour. The game fits perfectly my tastes. I love the race element, it makes the end game very exciting. You convinced me to buy that one. Thank you Jon!

CORRECTIONS 41:50 - Orange should have gained a hoplite due to being last in order for the round. 47:13 - Purple should have gained a hoplite due to being last in order for the round. 52:09 - This is an illegal placement because it is directly adjacent to a creature.

I had been eyeing this game for quite a while since zee's recomemedation in his top 10, and man it looks really fun. i love the mix of monster fighting tile laying, and resource management. really great looking game too. thanks for the work jon.

Great video as always. Just picked this up after eyeing it for awhile and knew where to go to learn it!

The way I understood the rules you could not place your building next to a monster at 52:06. This seems to be one of those successfully shortened eurogames, where you still have 3-4 different ways to win and need to watch your opponents and zig when they zag, but all of it under an hour of playtime. Very Nice. And I like games where there is no pointsalad at the end. Thanks for the playthrough (and recommendation).

Good catch about that building, that was indeed an illegal placement. I've added corrections. Glad you enjoyed this one :)

Thanks for the full playthrough. its sure does seem to play quickly, though it did not capture my imagination. Still if someone suggested playing it, i would certainly try it.

Great explanation Jon. Thank you. Looks like our type of game. Almost too "multi-player solitaire" to my taste but at least the God favors add a little interactivity by being able to steal it from another.

I think the orange player had a good chance of winning the game if they went for the temples on their turn starting at 58:11. They could have used 2 of their orichalcum as a bonus action to gain 3 more hoplites (instead of 1 hoplie for 1 orichalcum) which meant they would be the first player for the next round...on their following turn they could take the 2nd card with a single volcano on it and put it on the top single empty spot on their map and therefore create a 4-different-terrain base for a temple. they could use the construct action of the card to build a temple on the (lagoon+forest+volcano+mountain) region which would bring them to 3 VPs. then they could spend 1 hoplite along with 2 other to capture the creature (that came with the single volcano tile) as the 1st bonus action and spend the last hoplite to do another bonus construct action to build a temple on the (lagoon+desert+forest+volcano) at the top of their map (4th VP). of course they couldn't have known what cards would come up in the next round but considering their opponents were so close to winning they should have tried to remain the first player (which was their strong suit due to their many training camps)
@GettingGames2 жыл бұрын
Huh, yeah you make a really good point. I felt like Orange was in a pretty strong position but then they faded at the end. I think I just didn't play them very well as the game was ending unfortunately.

47:06 Should have given purple a hoplite for being to the right of the initiative. 52:00 Can't construct next to a monster

So you can get god powers if you have a mix of same terrain and volcanoes? (34:12) I may have misinterpreted what you were explaining, and if so, please disregard
@GettingGames2 жыл бұрын
Volcanoes are only "wild" for the purpose of constructing buildings, not for bringing over gods.

It seems like halfway into the game, you stopped giving hoplites to the player to the right of the starting player. Also, at 52:33, you constructed a building next to a creature
@GettingGames2 жыл бұрын
I found 2 instances of not giving hoplites, added corrections for those and for the illegal building construction. Thanks for pointing those out.

Caught a few mistakes: 12:32 that's not a Hydra its Cerberus. I know it's not a rules mistake but... Also why does goodest boy have the lowest strength tsk tsk (:P) 41:40 Shouldn't orange get an extra hoplite here? Or does that not happen if the start player token doesn't move? I'm not clear on this. 47:10 You (purple) should get a hoplite. 52:07 Can't build next to a creature! 1:06:14 Actually a Hydra! (not a rules mistake) You know it's strange, I was excited for this game when I started watching, it looked like my kind of jam. But somehow my enthusiasm actually drained as I watched. I'm afraid this one is not for me.

As usual great video. If a space is covered by a building/temple, does it still count for 3+ spaces of the type for god attention? Just wondering. Keep on truckin' JGG!
@GettingGames2 жыл бұрын
Good question. If a terrain is covered by a building or temple then it no longer counts as terrain since you can't see it anymore. Glad you enjoyed this :)

I believe the building you constructed around 52:00 was illegal, as you placed it adjacent to a monster.
@GettingGames2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that was indeed an illegal placement. I've made a correction, thanks for mentioning it :)
@dshannon232 жыл бұрын
Geeze. This game looks pretty good right up until the end, where the winner is determined by turn order.
@GettingGames2 жыл бұрын
Considering players do have some control over player order, I don't personally see that as a big deal. I didn't consider it much in this play (this was my first time playing) but I can definitely see strategically holding back on hoplites in order to gain 1st player could be a smart move near the end of the game when it's close.
@athanfalangus58912 жыл бұрын
First. And I think you made a mistake at 52:21 when you built next to a monster
@GettingGames2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I did mess that placement up. I've added a correction, thanks for pointing it out.

At the end I would have rolled one dice. And if you killed it you could have spent the 2 hoplite to get 4 gems and win the game
@GettingGames2 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean, but I wouldn't have had the action to turn those 4 orichalcum into a temple to get that last point until the following turn anyway.
