I grew up in the parish, the church was built when I was still a toddler. I remember as a Eucharistic Minister around 1980, the first time I was sent to get the Blessed Sacrament from the tabernacle. As I went to reach into the tabernacle, I wondered if there would be anything beyond my wrist when I went to pull it out. In those days, there was a white veil inside the set of doors, so you couldn't see inside unless you pulled them to the side. When the church was to be renovated, there was a desire to remove the original altar and steps. Interestingly, the architect designed the building so that the weight of the marble altar and steps counterbalanced other parts - so there was no way to remove them.

Interesting comments about the counterbalance. I did not know that.

Start using the original altar again and remove the chairs in front of it!

Those chairs in front of the altar represent pure arrogance!!! Please move them to the right of the alter 90 degrees to the alter and congregation. Please Lord, can we stop with the modern nonsense 😢
