What tends to work better for removing that protective strip is some strong IPA. That way, it simply loosens up the adhesive and as it dries, it’ll retain its adhesive properties so you can reuse it after you’ve made the ribbon repairs.

For a new screen your best bet is probably eBay, although the price might be a bit high. I generally like to replace them with a more modern Backlit screen. I would recommend Funnyplaying, I've never had an issue with their products.
