I wasn't afraid of "gremlins" on the wing of airplanes, but was terrified of crashes. Even watching this now, and thinking about the next time I will fly, I feel anxious. @persona2grata
@persona2grata 2 жыл бұрын
@@jackg6887 Whelp, those seem like two different points, but that is a very interesting point you make about flight Marshells. Because I'll just be honest and admit that I did not know about the flight Marshells. I didn't even know that flight Marshells were a thing! Of course, it's been years since I've flown anywhere; I'm not the biggest fan of flying even though I know it's safer than driving in your car. But thank you for dropping the knowledge. Now, about the door. What I was referring to was the fact that doors on passenger aircraft are designed so that they close against the fuselage. The reason they do this is because the cabin is pressurized during flight; the pressure difference pushes the door shut with so much force that no human should be able to open it. This is both for safety and security. It prevents a person from trying to bring down the plane by opening the door and depressurizing during flight, but it also prevents the equally deadly scenario of the door opening on accident. In fact, when engineers break this design, such as on the McDonnell-Douglas DC 10 which had a cargo door that opened outward to increase the amount of cargo space, it creates the potential for deadly accidents like those that crashed several flights after the cargo door blew out during flight and damaged pilot controls. So the joke I was making was pointing out that nobody should have been able to open the door during flight the way he did, even if that nobody is captain Kirk.

@@lialandrum4315 Lol true, although it's a terrifying thought that there was ever a time when someone could just bring their pistol onto a flight and then be served a bunch of booze. Was everyone deprived of oxygen as infants in 1963?

Born in '83 but I remember watching with my parents when I was around 10, I literally screamed from absolute terror when the monster showed its face in the window, lol.

Shatner (despite tending to overact) was always a very talented performer. But Lithgow was amazing (admittedly in better filming circumstances). Great work on the edit.

That famous scene was telegraphed--I said, "DON'T PULL BACK THAT CURTAIN!" and he did, and there was the gremlin! A real shocker, even though I knew what was going to happen. My papa was a co-pilot on a B-24 in the war, and I asked him one time if he believed in gremlins, and he said yes, he did . . .

The music sort of ruins the buildup to the jump scare. Even though the creature in the original looked silly along with the acting being more over the top the buildup to the reveal was much more effective with its lack of music. In this movie it's the opposite problem with the creature more scary and the buildup music more over the top.
