how does one compose like this, and stuff in the style of bipolarity-vitalism? and if anyone bothers to answer, remember that technical skill does not always = compositional skill
@DingDongDaddyFromDumas
@DingDongDaddyFromDumas 7 жыл бұрын
Virnali Nebrida-Sunga Whatever your low string is tuned to, learn how to harmonize the minor scale with that note as your root. Then just fuck around with chords until you come up with a decent progression. Once you have your chords chosen, create rhythm and lead guitar parts based off of the notes in said chords. I'd also recommend you learn the dorian and phrygian modes. They sound a lot more exotic than just a plain minor scale. And don't be afraid to pull chords from other keys, that's what makes a lot of prog sound unique and interesting. I hope this helps you to get writing. Have fun Edit: Oh and use jazzy chords. Plain ole major and minor chords are boring. Throw some sevenths, sixths, fourths, and ninths in there to spice things up

Thanks for the truly kind words (too kind!). I know it's been a while since this comment, but I've finally put out my first album, which has 7 songs (including 4 brand new ones and 3 remasters, one of which is this song). You can stream or download the album (for free!) on my Bandcamp stevendemartini.bandcamp.com/, or stream it on my KZbin channel here kzbin.info/www/bejne/lX-3cqmsn5ata6s Positivity like yours helped me finish the album, so I really appreciate the feedback. Looking forward to your feedback on my full release.

I've been crazy busy (mostly with school) since I last uploaded a video. I'm actually planning on writing (and hopefully recording!) some new music starting mid-December. It's been a while, and I wish I could've had more time to play, but if all goes well I'll have some new music in the not-too-distant feature. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the comment. I currently don't have my music posted anywhere except KZbin. I had/have plans to release an EP at some point with these songs, probably via bandcamp, but I haven't recorded another song in a while. After I do that, hopefully I'll get these up for people to download properly. Anyway, thanks for the kind words. Love hearing feedback :) And for anyone wondering, I still read all the comments I receive, just don't always have time to respond to them all (like I used to).

I don't know if I've already said this, but there are certain kinds of talent. Talent that inspires you, makes you want to get up and do something, and blows your mind and changes your life. And then there's the talent that surpasses that, which simply makes you want to hang up your guitar in shame at the fact that you'll simply never be that good. But in the long run, it'll inspire you more than any other thing ever could, in making you realize you have to work for it. You're the second one.

@Syntaxon Thanks a lot! I actually did the delay with my DAW, Reaper, though I'm sure Guitar Rig is capable also. Google "guitar cascade delay effect" or something and you'll find out how to get that sound, if you're interested. I don't have any idea how many hours. Too many, for sure, haha. I'm pretty inefficient at the recording and mixing process. Haven't yet come up with names for my previous songs, but it'll happen soon enough. Again, thanks for your comment. I appreciate your support!

@stebbZv Awesome! Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you enjoyed my music. Check out the description for some tips. I use Guitar Pro 5 to write the drum parts out, and then I export the MIDI file and use Drumkit from Hell to get the semi-realistic sounds. There are probably tutorials that you can find that will explain this in more detail. Good luck!

@ThePugnaciousAnt Thanks much for your comment. I'm quite busy so don't think I'll be putting out any videos of the sort, at least not any time soon. Plus, it's not really like there's a formula. I'd recommend learning your basic major/minor scales and modes, and then learn and practice arpeggios. Mess around with those until you find stuff that sounds good to you. And it may help to learn songs of bands you like, because you might pick up some techniques or cool ideas doing so. Hope that helps

@ProgDemon I used Guitar Rig as a VST in my digital audio workstation (which for me was Reaper). I didn't use the standalone Guitar Rig application. I recorded all clean guitar parts straight into my computer, and then I used the Guitar Rig VST in Reaper to get the different guitar tones. The demo version of GR lasts only a half hour and you can't save your own presets, but you can export whatever audio you want from the digital audio workstation within that half hour. Hope that helps

I never thought it was possible, but this song absolutely dwarfs your last two. My only criticism would be that the 'hold a note over into the next riff' transition like at 2:40 works but it seems a little overused and abrupt at certain points. Keep up the good work man, I'm excited to see what you have in store for us in the future.

Thanks for the kind words, James :) I know it's been a while since I've been active on KZbin, but just a heads up that I finally released my first album last week, which features a remaster of this song, along with six other tracks! You can stream it in full on my channel (kzbin.info/www/bejne/lX-3cqmsn5ata6s), download it for free on Bandcamp (stevendemartini.bandcamp.com/, any proceeds go to charity), or listen on Spotify (goo.gl/4eMsUX), iTunes, etc. Would appreciate any feedback!

Wow what a unique playing style, I've actually never quite seen this before. Probably because I listen to a different type of metal, but this is really refreshing to see.

definitivamente eres un artista, tu música llega, transporta, engancha, tienes una magnifica creatividad sin mencionar tu destreza en el instrumento.

@kiranimo Well that's awesome. It really means a lot to me to get that sort of feedback. In case you didn't see them, I have two other original prog metal songs up on KZbin. And I plan to put out an EP later this year, so stay tuned. Thanks much. Glad you liked it

@BrighamHB & @johnsonjesseguitar Yeah, BrighamHB is right that the electric guitars and bass are tuned a step lower. The acoustic guitar is using an open tuning. Check out the description, like he said. Thanks

@MindOfPagan Thanks a lot! I appreciate the detailed, constructive feedback. I agree that the production could be better. I think I might look into Superior for my next song. It's pricey, but people have gotten some awesome sounding mixes with it. So we'll see.

@BlikeNave Awesome. Yeah I just recently go into BTBAM in the past couple months. Never really listened to them at all before that, though I wasn't really trying to draw from their style with the intro. I appreciate your kind words and detailed feedback. Great to know some people like the songs!

Tremendous! One of the few KZbinrs that actually impress me. And so young--what, did you use time travel to become so advanced in such youth?! That's cheating you know.

I'm not into Metal. I do recognize talent, no mater what genre though. You should do well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but what is on the video, is not a song, but a tune.
