I live in Thailand and buy my oil filters from the dealer, that's the only way to be reasonably certain not to get a knockoff. You absolutely cannot tell from the packaging.

am in thailand as well. just bought an yzzn2 oil filter on lazada (thai version of amazon/ebay) for wife's 2016 toyota yaris ativ. this is the newer version of yzze1. seller has a 99% rating based on 500 reviews. only bad review was somebody got the wrong filter. box has the hologram oriented correctly. filter passes all the visual tests shown in the video except weight which i cant verify. even came with a washer for the oil drain nut - toyota charges separately for. almost same price as toyota charged me last oil change. am a few hours drive from nearest dealer so decided to diy. i would swear filter is genuine but seeing this am worried.

So does the counterfeit filter work? It seems it uses more materials, so it may be better than the original. Your video didn’t really have an argument - just that one is original and one is aftermarket. Aftermarket doesn’t mean inferior - perhaps it’s better.
@ilikes-1978 ай бұрын
From what I’ve seen and heard from the Toyota Europe channel, the counterfeit part is less dense than the OEM filter, causing less filtering. A reason for the video too is if you’re out looking for an OEM filter, you want to make sure you are getting what you pay for. At least that’s how I feel

Are you sure counterfeit filter is worse than the original one? I watched a few videos where they cut open and compared different filters and one point of comparison was the weight, the heavier the filter the better it was.

I don’t care about the trivial cometic differences. If the filtering media performs the same for 1/4 of OEM, why not. You need these counterfeiters to keep the OEMs in check with their outrageous price points.

@hydhershah32463 жыл бұрын
The concern is about safety. When your filter is stuck, there is better chance e original cleats will stay in shape. Another to be concerned of is the drain back valve is of correct specs. Failure to do so might lead to engine damage. Lastly the quality of the Gasket . Anyway have used the fake filter for 10 000km without hiccups. With the slight minimum in price difference, i will get the original for a piece of mind.
@awakeandalive42483 жыл бұрын
The quality of the filter media that traps and fillters the oil is a major concern is not worth specially when you can buy as many as you want in your Toyota dealership, I just ask them do you still have your oil fillters for 5 dollars and they tell me how many do you need. For oil fillters and air filters the dealership has them cheaper than Amazon and Walmart.
@TaijiArban3 жыл бұрын
Not all filters are built same. There's a reason some are more expensive than others such as Fram regular to Fram Tough guard to Fram Ultra. They filter more particles and these counterfeit ones are most likely built with cheaper filter media that will not filter as much as an original filter. If you are gonna buy an original filter, just buy it through the dealership. I remember a youtuber saying that if companies are scared to put their brand name in their product and instead produce counterfeits claiming to be original, then even cheap aftermarket products made by companies that put their brand name on it will be more reliable and reputable because they aren't scared of putting their brand name in their product.
@njsongwriter2 жыл бұрын
If it's a cabin air filter then it's just a filter. If it's an engine oil or air filter then they are important for keeping the inside of your engine clean which should result in a longer lasting more efficient engine.
