Really great tutorial. I followed it the whole way through over the last week. Everything seen in the video is accurate as to how the process is in real life. The only thing I ran into that was slightly different was partitioning the new HDD. After cloning the master to slave drive, my G drive only had 123 gb of storage allocated and my F drive had 0gb allocated. This was no issue however, as the application XBPartition 1.3 easily solves this issue and lets you partition both G & F to 950gb. I'm very excited to play through my childhood favorites over the next few month and share these fond memories with my wife, who's never played the OG xbox. I'd say the skill level required for this full mod upgrade is 6/10 -- some attention to detail is required as well as confidence when tinkering with the hardware (it's easy to be timid with the limited working space/20-year old hardware) however, I found the xbox og to be a super sturdy machine that is a lot of fun to mess around with. I would recommend you try this out if you're on the fence about doing it. The breakdown of my costs is as follow: $80 xbox of ebay, $34 soft mod kit from ebay, $40 2TB hard drive, $12 80-pin IDE cable, $18 sata/ide adapter -- so around $200 bucks, but i'll get countless hours of play from it, and can always look to resell once i've had enough... seems like the xbox bull run is still going strong. Thanks Pence! p.s. be ready to spend some time copy game files to the xbox. if you're trying to get 1000 games on there, it will take a while ;D

I love it. Great tutorial. I'm on a pretty solid version of Krazy's Xbox mod I did back in 2016. It's only a 500 Gb so it only hold about 90 Xbox games. Those sata drives have come down in price enough that maybe if I watch this a few more times I will gather the inspiration required to dive into this. It's always something though, this cable, that paste, new drive belt, adapters clock capacitors etc I've got a pretty cool modded PSP 3001 that puts the power of Nintendo and super Nintendo in a nice little portable package. One thing worth to mention is that in order for Insignia (Xbox Live) to work, "ACL Processing" has to be turned off in DVD2Xbox, otherwise dumped games will run into issues. Good video otherwise, I appreciate the HDD upgrade walkthrough!

Connecting to Insignia. This is actually more difficult than I imagined and spent many hours troubleshooting. Here is what finally worked for me and customers that I have told. Have your Xbox connected to ethernet and router or ethernet switch. In the XBMC4GAMERS dashboard, go to settings, network, and change the assignment to default(dashboard) and save. Reboot the Xbox. Once booted back up, go to Options, settings, file manager, c drive, dashboard, and press A on default.xbe. This will load into unleashX dashboard. Now go to system > settings > network. Change the type to dhcp if it isn't already on there(if it is already dhcp, write down the IP address it gave you) If you had to change it to dhcp, back out and be sure the save. Reboot the Xbox and go back to the unleashX dashboard. Now change the type to static. Back out and be sure to save, reboot your console again and once again, go to the unleashx dashboard. Now change the settings to the following: IP: whatever the dhcp IP that you wrote down. Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 gateway: 192.168.0.1 DNS 1: 46.101.64.175 DNS 2: 1.1.1.1 Back out and be sure to save! Reboot the Xbox. Once rebooted, go to applications and MS dashboard app. Go to settings and Network settings. Choose IP and change to Auto. Back out and go to DNS servers. Change to manual. Primary DNS change to 46.101.64.175 Alternate DNS change to 1.1.1.1 Back out and go to connect. Hopefully it will connect. You may have to go back into the Xbox dashboard network settings and change the IP to auto again as it doesn't always save. When I went to check the process to write down for you, It wouldn't connect because the Xbox dashboard went back to manual for some reason and I had to change back to auto. Worked fine after doing that.

Ok i cant hook up my xbox to my router too far away and not gonna run a long ass cable through my house. I have my laptop near my xbox with direct ethernet hooked up to xbox. I have my wireless connection on my laptop shared with the ethernet port. I had this working the other day was able to connect i just had to wait for my invite key. I got it today and now i camt connect. I have changed nothing in my settings but now it wont connect.

following your tutorial here, getting crazy errors using qwix, have iso, but keep getting error of identifier not found-possible corruption. there must be another method for using iso's on the xbox- insane how little imformation there is. and i dont wanna burn use dvd2xbox for some 400+ dsics..

@@blazzer73553 weird. Obviously I had the same issue, but chalked it up to a bad .iso as I have used it perfectly fine in the past. It was on a windows 7 PC that worked fine. You can either try running the program as admin OR try right clicking on the program and do troubleshoot compatibility. Choose "This program worked in earlier versions of windows" Try Windows 7 first, then others if it doesn't work. Worth a shot.

This is a great tutorial. I am unfortunately getting error code 11 when trying to start up with the new hard drive. Same 2TB Barracuda as in this video. StarTech adapter and 80 wire cable. I'm searching for a solution to this but thought it might be a good idea to post this here just in case. *** Update! *** I got to thinking that perhaps the hard drive wasn't playing nice with the Samsung disk drive since error code 11 is an undetected disk drive. So I took the Thompson disk drive out of another Xbox I have that I need to fix which doesn't display video and put it in and it works without issue now!

Amazing tutorial. It has worked perfectly so far. I'm downloading games as I type. The only problem I ran into was getting Chimp to work. I think it was a permissions issue copying files from my Mac to Xbox via Filezilla. My solution was to re-install Chimp with the Softmod extra disc. I'm unsure if that was a Mac or Filezilla issue. Something that I always wondered and hope you have a solution...when in XBMC dashboard, since I'm the only person using this, I've set up my profile but wonder if there is a way for the xbox to go directly to showing the artwork/dashboard (ex: 1:19:09) without having to click on the login screen (ex at 1:06:34).

I will admit I completely forgot to null the HDD key before cloning. Luckily, I still have my stock hard drive stored away, and it's looking like I'm gonna have to go through cloning the contents of my HDD again after nulling the key. I'll tackle that once I'm home from work tonight.

The stock hard drive wouldn't co-operate during the second cloning attempt (I had it set to Slave and it would come up as "Unlocked", and Chimp wouldn't allow me to lock it again) but luckily, I've backed up the now-nulled HDD key from the EEPROM folder on my 2TB drive, to my PC. I'm looking into a USB-to-IDE adapter for the stock drive, so i can transfer the nulled key to that drive.

I still think that may be the reason(the video cable), you are still converting an analog signal to digital via HDMI and not getting the analog signal. You don't have any other TV with composite outputs?

I downloaded Chimp from a link in another YT video (don't remember which), but that version had incorrectly named the file Chimp\initrd.gz as simply Chimp\initrd (with no file extension). So it appears there are people distributing Chimp without actually making sure it works...

I have the old AID/SID Unleash X Splinter Cell mod. I’m either going to unmod and start from scratch or upgrade if I can. I have a locking 1tb sata drive and everything else that is needed.

One thing to note is if you have a smaller or larger HDD than 2tb chimp will most likely not work and you will have to use a separate application called XBpartitioner 1.3

IMO, even though there is no load time benefits to an SSD, SSD is still a good choice when available for reliability in case the system is mishandled or knocked over by a kid or a pet plus reduced heat.

Now I have bought another xbox, same motherboard version, same dashboard softmodded, evo x chip inside but a small hdd. How can I swap out the hard drive without reformatting my 2TB one? I just wanna keep all the stuff that is in it.

I also have Mechassault but it's a Platinum Hits version. I didn't use that game to softmod my Xbox because I don't know if that game will allow me to use the Xbox Softmodding Tool. Splinter Cell worked for me, plus I liked that game as a game and not as an exploit so all the more reason to have that game

Why does every video show switching out the 40pin for 80pin ribbon cable. Did I miss something? I had to do that with my first build.

A quick "difference between 40pin and 80pin ribbon cable" Google says: _"In a 40 conductor cable the data signals were all next to each other and would interfere with one another at high frequency. With an 80 pin cable they are each separated by a GND so the interference is less"_ Maybe something to do with that? (uneducated reply, but looking into these types of things lately so interested too)

Hey. I saw you do I video on the comparison between OG Xbox hdd vs ssd. It's been around 5 years since I bought your kit and I'm looking to change/swap out my hhd. SSDs are pretty cheap nowadays and I was thinking about "upgrading". I know I won't get any performance gain. I'm hesitant because there are not any videos out about how to do this (swapping out an already hard modded xbox without a mod chip). Is there anything I should be aware of before doing this? Pretty sure the way I softmodded my xbox's 10 years ago was by attaching the xbox's harddrive to a pc using FTP and copying the files that way. I know for sure I didn't use a USB drive.

At 34:43 this guy says Acetone works way better than Alcohol. I had the opposite experience. Acetone did almost nothing, Alcohol removed the thermal paste immediately.

@PENCEPC i tried to swap out the hdd but I got a code 07 but it won’t go away how can I fix this issue a new 80 wire?

if you are using a SATA hard drive, yes, you must use an 80 wire IDE cable or you will get errors.

I can't thank you enough for your detailed thorough explanation! I was wondering. Do you know if I can use this soft mod on a xbox that was modded with an Xecuter chip (literally 15-20) years ago?

I don't have any experience with modchips so I can't say for sure. I always went with softmods because they can do just about everything a modchip can, or at least everything I want out of an Xbox.

@@PenceFamilyGaming Gotcha - thank you. I can't be sure but I don't think softmods existed for this device back then, I may just give it a shot. If so, I'll follow up and let you know.

If you have an xbox that is already modded with an Xecuter chip you don't need to do any of this BS. I know cuz I just pulled my xbox from storage that had a Xecuter chip and all I had to do was reflash the chip with a new BIOS cuz the old one got corrupter over time. After I reflashed my chip everything worked.

@@Mareka6969 Thanks Mareka, so you were able to specifically flash with the XBMC dash? I love the gui

@@starchild417 basically what I did was made a folder on the C drive called BIOS and I put xblast_os_v0.60 in that folder. Then I booted into xblast OS using the file manager and flashed one of the banks on the modchip with xblast. Rebooted the system, got back into Xblast OS and used it again to flash bank 2 with latest Cerbios. That took care of the modchip. Next I setup my new 4TB HDD using FATXplorer. If you look up @modzvilleusa he videos on how to setup a new HDD, it works great. Just take your time, look up some guides and you can get your xecuter back up and running like new. Or you can sell it to me :)

Is it normal you can't play disk games? I'm able to copy them to the hdd but I can't play the diskgame themselve
