Insignia eh? I guess I don't need to invent the kai box then. What is the Kai Box? It was an fpga powered box that I designed but never built. What was it's job? It was a way to use xlink Kai without a pc, so you could do link games online. I never built it though, but thanks Jeff, cause your bit about insignia allowed me to remember and finally get credit for it nearly 20 years after in designed it! Also, searching and asking players inside the discord does not help find you people play, because there's no real care in it.

I know that this video is mainly about restoring the old wild West era of Xbox live before everything was so heavily monetized, but I feel the need to point out that I really miss the old Xbox sound design. Just the aesthetic in general. All those futuristic beeps and robotic noises were so cool. I'll never understand why newer Xbox consoles never stuck with that.

They were trying to appeal to "the whole family", all that weeb counter-culture crap that had everyone trying to make their console more like a media center + Wii. But OG Xbox represented an era that was dark and gritty and real; games had good writing and even better multiplayer, and... man, I'm an old man. @DoubleMonoLR Жыл бұрын
The AV2HDMI is using the lowest quality video signal(composite), the Pound converter is internally using the best - Component video(similar quality to VGA), which supports 480p and HD with games that support it(which may be available on more games with a modded Xbox, much like a modded PS2 allows HD output for many more games). THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS EXCELLENT VIDEO! Quality content, as usual from this channel! ---I was 19-20 when OG XBL started up. It was sooo awesome, and for the most part, just worked great. I had busted my ass working 2 FT jobs at the time, and was still living with my Pop. So I had the money. Had a PS2, GC, and Xbox. XBL made the OG XBOX my platform of choice at the time for sure. Especially with it's exclusives, and nearly all 3rd party on it was rivaling the PC of the day for supreme version. Add XBL on top and it was thEE shit. Several XBL games of the era got my attention, but the one I came back time and time again for, was PGR 2. LOVED that game. So disappointed that they haven't figured out a way to reboot/remake the PGR series after Bizarre Creations went out. It's a fun game on it's own, but it was HIGHLY tied into OG XBL. LEaderboards, Time Trials, Lobbies, etc. Despite still being fun, it always felt like 40% of the game was missing without having XBL available any longer...... I've been hearing/reading about this for around a year now. After seeing this, I feel I have to do this now lol.... PGR2 needs me, and I it. An all-time favorite of mine. Crimson Skies was another great, Rainbow Six 3, Battlefront 2 etc. MAKE PGR GAMES GREAT AGAIN! lol. Cheers.

05:30 Well, another option, the one I use the most, get yourself an 8-port ethernet switcher, which allows you to use ethernet cables to be hooked up to multiple devices through ethernet, just form one ethernet cable hooked up from the router (say a floor above the basement or on the first floor) to another room inside the walls, and then hook it up to any port on the ethernet switcher, grab yourself some ethernet patch cables, hook up your devices with ethernet, and you're done. I can't tell you how much of a struggle WiFi was for me playing the Xbox 360, it was slow as heck. Once I hooked it up to the ethernet, it was a lot easier and much faster connection, and more stable, than wifi will ever be, just saying. Also, I wouldn't recommend playing on TVs that are larger than 54 inches as it introduces a ton of lag, especially if your controller is wireless.

In the mid 2000's, i used to play battlefront II online. I would play on various servers, but i few servers became my home. After llaying for a handfull of months, i started to gain a bit of recognition. I wasnt that great woth the shotty class or the grunt class, but i was getting really good with the sniper class. Eventually i befriended a group of guys who were always good competition, a few of them a part of MOH, a couple from JOD and one of the guys from SOF. Anyways, one day i was in their server hanging out, and these guys were having a conversation about some drama within the clans, and I just happened to be absolutely shitting that day. After that one of the guys said they "should pick me up". I didnt know what they were talking about, but apparently, MOH had been having some fueding. See, MOH was the top clan. They were something like 100 or 200 something and 0. Undefeated in clan battles. Well they were having some feud within their clan, and a couple of their best players left the clan and started their own called COS. They then went on to grab the top players from the other clans and basically made a god squad. Well a couple of these guys were the ones i was talking about. So they had me 1v1 one of the guys, his name was aXle, formally MOH, and i held my own, but didnt beat him. Apparently that was enough though, they asked me to join their team and i said sure. They then proceeded to teach me everything. From gun skill to strats, and then came the day we started our clan battles domination. We would go on to deliver MOH their first loss, and then we went on to win every tournament and monthly team point race. Last i remembered we were something like 302-0. I didnt play in every one of those games, but I participated in probably like 30 of them. But those were my fondest times on that game. I was like maybe 11 or 12, and I owe probably most of fps skill i had after that to those guys.

9:23 Couldn't you just make a 1-2 gb partition on any flash drive and leave the rest of the drive unformatted? It would/should still show up the same for the Xbox

Ive been having a ton of nostalgia lately for the OG Xbox. I remember staying up all night playing Halo 2, conker, splinter cell, R6 online

I still have my splinter cell for modding my Xbox… from over 15 years ago I think

Microsoft renamed Xbox live to "Xbox Network" which sounds so corporate and boring. I miss the orange "Live" logo they used back in the original Xbox and Xbox 360 days, it's so nostalgic to me. I still remember the orange dvd cases that the Xbox Live cards came in back in the early 360 days, they looked so cool but also seemed like a waste of plastic haha. (EDIT: I found one I had saved complete with the card inside and everything which is pretty cool) That's probably why they later switched to cardboard cases. (I don't know if the plastic DVD cases was a EU only thing)

I was too young and my family was not well off back when the Xbox was popping, so I never got to play it or any consoles rly; just was watching friends play until the PS4 when I bought it late in it's life cycle. This video is making me consider to get an Xbox and enjoy those legendary multiplayer games I never got to play :') thanks for posting this video!

I will definately be doing this.... the original xbxo was the first console that was all mine, and i never got to play online as we didn't have internet at the time.

That's the best looking game library scroll feature I have ever seen on an OG Xbox. I've never seen that before. What kind of mod is that at 6:27 ???!!!

Thats called the Origins dashboard. The best dashboard you can have for a modded original Xbox that is also an emulator. There's a link to the video in this description where the guy talks about Origins. I just watched it, it's amazing.

Amazing dude. Can’t believe people are playing it. Halo 2 on Xbox live back in the day changed my life.

@hfgddfdfdh Do you think a man is only the sum of his skeletal system? What a poor summary of what makes a great man. His mind, his heart and his intention speaks volumes towards the greatness within.

My dad age the age of 25 or older bought the original xbox and loved some of the classics spent the whole night playing some great games with him ironic considering I grew up with the generation of consoles after the og xbox

I cannot stress enough how important it is to check on your clock capacitor if you're using real hardware. Unless you've got a 1.6 motherboard your Xbox will die if it's not already dead unless you remove or replace that thing.

Dammit Jeff, you should get a group of people together on a server, vote on a game & setup a time so everyone can play together. Insignia only has 20 users active max daily. You could be the reason that number hits 100 in one day.
@themissinfowar662911 ай бұрын
I would just stick to XLink Kai since it has nearly 100 active users. The most popular game is Halo 2 on original XBOX 😆

Dreamcast and og xbox were truly some of the greatest gaming memories of my life, cant believe i was able to experience those days : D
@Kit_Bear Жыл бұрын
I had all of them except for the dreamcast. I have one now so I'm not a fanboy of any particular console. I have zero loyalty to a brand or manufacturer. If they make a good product then I'll give it a try. In saying that I prefered all of them for their unique features and games they all offered. The GC was graphically superior to all of them. the PS2 had all the best games but online play was the XBOX. I love them all.

For me, if you're going to play original xbox, you use the duke. Yeah it's massive but is somehow comfortable and ergonomic while being comically huge and I do have small hands so that says something to how they managed to recover from that blunder when making the PCBs. With hyperkin remaking the dukes I suppose you could have an original and new controller experience still with that adapter which is... interesting actually. I kind of hope microsoft allows for this to somehow work on xbox one, series and as if this is not already a long shot but somehow manages to squeeze in an update for the 360 to work with this method. That would be something to behold.

Thanks Jeff. I have the same controller you do. After a Wingman XB, A 8bitdo adapter (both 1 & 2), I finally saw your video and now I'm golden for my controller. Good work.

Syncing up a new controller is next level man. I still have and use .y modded Xbox frequently so this makes me feel better about it since I never knew this trick. The pound cable on a 4k TV makes Xbox look really solid

Still have my xbox from launch day. I've had to replace the optical drive 8 times, along with the cpu fan, case fan, power supply, and one of the daughter boards, but the motherboard is still original. So cool to see Xbox Live make a return.

I noticed a game you mentioned: Toca Race Driver 2. In Australia, we got a modified version called: V8 Supercars Race Driver 2. It was basically the same game but with Australia - specific add ons like our Aussie tracks, and of course, Australian Touring cars from the V8 Supercars tournament. It was really awesome at the time, because aside from Gran Turismo 4 and one of the GameCube versions of Need For Speed, there had never been any Australian vehicles in a mainstream videogame before. At least none in proper 3D models. It was a big deal over here and lots of people had it.
