It's actually written in Modern Swedish with simply older Modern Swedish spelling and grammar from before the last spelling reform (i.e. "gammalstavning"). Actual Old Swedish Viking era Swedish: Þæiʀ hafa aldrigi wikit né sialfiʀ tap(p)at. compare... Modern Icelandic: Þeir hafa aldrei vikið né sjálfir tapað.

@@nihalad_3854 Yes, you are correct but that wasn't the point. "...is written in old Swedish" in linguistics means that it was written in well, Old Swedish, which is a certain time period way back. I guess what the original poster meant to say is that it was older "Modern" Swedish, which is what it is.

From wikipedia, translated: Norrbotten's regimental motto is "They have never folded or for its own part lost", which is said to have been said after the battle at Villmanstrand. The one when Västerbotten's regiment participated with a battalion that remained in the battle, when the other units retreated. The Norrbotten regiment, which was formed from the Västerbotten regiment in 1841, adopted this motto. According to legend, the regiment remained in place (against impossible odds) because it still had some officers who had been fighting in Charles XII's army. (Carolus Rex, the warrior King). Also, the text at the start of the video translates to "The lock in the north" which refers to the old, interconnected, fortresses surrounding the city of Boden. The name implies "Here, but not any further". The forts where built to stop a Russian land invasion, were manned during both World Wars and the Cold war, but were decommissioned in 1990's. The forts never saw any action. So, I guess now the army refers to the Norbotten regiment as our lock in the north instead :)

All automatic rifles used in the Swedish military is usually designated as AK this has nothing to do with the Russian AK. AK in Sweden stands for “Automat-Karbin” this literally means automatic rifle. That why you read about Swedish AK-4, AK-5 and so on. These weapons has absolutely no Russia connection except for the fact that they were all designed to stop Russians. 😊

From the 1960´s we had AK4. That weapon is a modified Swedish version of the German Heckler & Koch G3. Those are upgraded with red point sights and are used by Hemvärnet (Homeguard) , a voluntary branch of the army. I´ve seen several videos where people misstake it for FN FAL. From the end of the 80´s and onwards we use AK5. The weapon is developed from the Belgian FNC 80 automatic carbine from FN Herstal and is chambered for the 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge. The first versions of the weapon had a longer barrel and a different stock than todays version. Sweden and Finland has done a joint deal with the Finnish company SAKO (owned by Beretta) for two different AKs (5.56 and 7.62), sharp shotter rifles and sniper rifles.

Former officer at this regiment back in the 90-ies. The road destruction at around 12:40 is a key part of the strategy in the area from the Finnish border westwards. You have a lot of marshland, wide rivers running north-south and few roads with capacity to support the logistical train. Key sections of road and railroad had (have?) pre-built pipes for explosives. The munitions are stored nearby, at least back then, and usually it was the responsibility of home guard units that needed extremely short time to suit up, leave their home and prep the roads for destruction. Once the transport network is destroyed the fighting forces basically fight a delaying action and more or less wait until the fuel, food and water runs out for the Russians. Meanwhile rangers and other assets go deep and work on the soft targets repairing roads, logistical units and such. There simply is no way to circumvent the destroyed/damaged transportation network with wheeled vehicles. Back then in the town of Boden you had a number of regiments training infantry, tank/mech inf, high level command&communications units, artillery, engineers, army aviation and air defence units in addition to a number of high level staff units. Around 3000 conscripts out of a total of 30 000 for the whole of Sweden were trained here annually.

Why can not Ukraine leave these eastern parts to they who lives there and do not want to be a part of the kiev-regime? Just like Denmark left Skåne, Småland and Halland. Or they could give them some kind of freedom like Åland, Greenland, the Native "samerna" in the north of Scandinavia och just like the swedish-finnish in Finland? The tracked articulated vehicle is called Viking in the UK i think, there rare a few models usually starting with BV in swedish. i think the new ones are BV410 or bvs10 (the later one is armored, the s is for Skyddad wich means protected.) I agree about the hype, i think the swedish armed forces do really really good media material. I think they are hitting a really good mix of hype, competence, history and inclusivity.

How that will work in practice, we don't know; it has not been tried before. The majority of the Swedish military are men, and I fear they will have to carry many of the small numbers of new female conscripts. But in a real war, I think they will just be left behind if they can't keep up with the men. Of course there are women in the military all over the world who can keep up with the men, but they are very far in between. I believe this was tested sometime ago in the US military, and the results showed that women will slow operations down considerably because of the primitive biological differences in how we act, think, and how we are built. Men are likely to be more impulsive, take initiative, and throw themselves into danger, while women are more cautious and hesitant, which is not bad per se as they will do a wonderful job in other roles, and not to forget their biological traits as caretakers; they would do better as, for example, field nurses.

How Sweden historically made the recruitment is that they had a 12 way star graph and each and every service position had a star graph requirement (i would imagine that it work similar today, but i don´t know if that is the case, not been in contact with he total defense for 25 years). What they do is have every recruit (and when i did it that was every single boy in the country ) do 12 tests (6 physical 6 theoretical) and then check what service position that individual match the best to. Typically it would be a short list of 2-5 position and a short interview and some grade and health test would determine where you ultimately would go. When i did the test there was about 5% girls. That is up to about 20-25% today. They like to show the girls in the propaganda videos, but they are not quite as prevalent as they would look like they are. In the mechanized position they tend to have more women. Specially as a position as a tank driver there was a maximum alowed height that was really low for Swedish specification. (back when i did service, STrv 103 and BMP was still the most common. Also most tank crew tend to be selected if the where short and slim. And also tend to select IFV crew that was short and slim. I guess that they also would tend to use short and slim people for archer. While there is plenty of space in the archer, its a good position for those people. That is also true for quite a few naval position as well as information positions. The sort of middle range people would go into logistics, food and general surply. And the tallest and strongest would go into "jägare" (sometimes refereed to as rangers). Those are the thoughest. They use to get a longer training period with a 3 month period to just bulk them up, but they stop doing that. They still have some women in the "jägare" today. What they have done is have different position as "jägare " with different weight of equipment. My Nice went into "jägare" he is absolutely ridiculously massive. 2 meter and 110-120kg muscle. He said the training was really relaxing, because he was assigned as wounded every single time

As mentioned in the Defense Forces' film, the defense must grow in the North. So then Sweden's best special unit/elite will again be in Kiruna and it is the Lapland Ranger Regiment, their operational areas are up in the mountain environment summer and winter. Those who will have to do military service as a Lapland Ranger are only among the best who are taken out. Here it is not the physical that is the toughest, but the psychological. Being out for weeks up in the mountains in both winter and summer, the constantly changing weather, the snow that can be over 2 meters, the cold that can drop to below -45 degrees Celsius. The storms between the mountain peaks and the darkness during the winter and during 1 month when the sun never rises. The handguns that the Swedish military now uses are called AK5, AK5B and AK%C. During 2025, these will be replaced by new weapons that Sweden and Finland jointly ordered. This year the sniper rifles are being replaced. As well as later many more weapons will be replaced. The name of the track wagon you're wondering what it's called, it's Bandvagn 410 ( BvS10 )

The primary Swedish battle rifle, from 1986ish until very soon, are adapted variants of the FN FNC, so not an AK type rifle at all. I think where the confusion comes from is the designation given it by the Swedish armed forces: "AK 5" (plus various subtypes designated by extra letters), "AK", in Swedish, is an initialism for "Automatkarbin" (Automatic Carbine), so essentially a short barreled rifle. Most variants of the AK5, fire the 5.56x45 Nato cartridge, charges on the right-hand side, and has a long-stroke piston gas system, as opposed to the actual AK style weapons who typically fire 7.62x39mm, charge on the left-hand side, and sport short-stroke piston gas systems. In other words, the Swedish battle rifles are not AKs.

A small swedish lesson. "Försvarsmakten" Försvar = defense makt = power, but in this case more like "authority" when referring to authorities that have the right to execute force. Pronounciation: Ö = kind of like when you say "Ehh?", like an o but with open mouth. För-svars-mak-ten. :)

The AK5 is the atandard issue rifle for the swedish military. Imo the best all-round rifle any soldier could have. At least from what ive seen and experienced. Good high speed rifle, light weight, high precision even outside recommeded range, never jam. Compatible with add-ons like scopes, Laser sight and grenade luncher. The one down side is the smaller 556 caliber rounds. We got to shoot with about 25 different rifles during my military service. Id pick the AK5 over any of them, its not even a question. Its just so good, reliable and user friendly. Ive heard american soldiers say "its like an M-16 that doesnt jam". How true this is, I do not know as Ive never used the M-16... But I thought it wasna funny remark 🤣

Sweden is quite large, for a European country, and the area they are responsible for is somewhat larger than England. The two northernmost counties, Norrbotten and Västerbotten, is about 150000 km^2 but only about half a million people lives here, with a population density of about 3.4/km^2, mostly living at the coast and less than 1 person/km^2 in the least populated areas. The current weapon used is a Swedish version of the Belgian FN FNC (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ak_5), but it is being replaced with a Finnish weapon in cooperation with Finland (SAKO SSG,SSV, AG, PSG). When I did my military service, we started out with the previous version, the AK4 (H&K G3, 7.62 mm NATO), but got the AK5 (5.56 NATO) a few months later. Those charges are used to blow up roads and railroads. All major roads in the northern part of Sweden are prepared to be blow up, often over wetlands and rivers where it would me more difficult to rebuild for an advancing enemy. There are those huge pipes already in the body of the roads and prepared charges nearby. Sweden has since about 1700 with the Caroleans been quite aggressive. Small country, outnumbered most of the time but compensating for this by being aggressive and pushing on and that still lives on today: "Swedish military doctrine of the Carolean era was distinguished by its emphasis on aggressive action and shock tactics, the so-called gå-på (literally "go-on") method. This attitude stood in contrast to other European armies of the period, which were coming to rely increasingly on musketry, delivered in the form of volley fire by line infantry, to win battles." And for us living up here in the north, the snow and the cold is really not a problem. You know how to dress and behave.

After training, perhaps, but most of the soldiers are from way farther south than Boden. Norrbottens län makes out the northern 22 % of the total area of Sweden, but only 2.35 % of the population live up there - and most of those people live in towns by the coastline, where the climate is somewhat milder.

Did my service in Boden as a "pionjärsoldat"/ wheel loader driver. It was a great time. I feel sad for young people, missing out that opportunity. Truth is not everything was fun and joy. But I kept my interest for history and military related stuff. Great video, but there is no secret, now is the time to speed up production capacity and make all the arrangements for a day we all want to avoid. The clip we saw was very much about a conventional fight. But from ongoing conflicts we know strategy has to adept. Information is the key factor. Airspace is maybe the most tech-heavy part of the warzone. Massive air defence is of great importance. And we do not have large quantities of anything. This goes for many NATO members of today. West is still not fully updated to the new situation. Politicians need to understand the importance of the situation. We need to be damn superior together. To keep "Fi" on the carpet.

Thing with our county is that the entire population has military training, and in the event that war breaks out it's not just the standing force that gets called into action, it's literally everyone. It's a key part of our defense strategy, and a hornets nest that even Russia should think twice about before poking.

AK is not AK, AK is short in Swedish for Automatkarbin (A utomat K arbin) ( English: Automatic Carbine) and then a number for the model. so its like the German Karabiner 98, Karabiner 44 and so on. its telling you what kind of weapon it is, and then the model number. Swedish military give names and model numbers for everything. so the inventory is hard to understand for the enemy. its same with tanks, weapons, vehicles, clothing. like the camo clothing M90. or CV90. its like then i did mandatory military service, i had a what you knows as a FAL (Heckler & Koch G3) , for me, its a Swedish AK4

1 brigade is nothing for that area Sweden needs atleast 4 brigades in the Nothern parts of Sweden, furthermore it need 1 brigade for Gotland. For the rest of the nation 3 brigades are needed. The high quality units existing today must be complemented with border and defence batalions. An army of 100 000 men is simply a minimum. A defencebudget of 2% is simply not enough considering Swedens location. It has two highly strategic areas, one in the north and one in the south. The airdefence is not strong enough lacking enogh SAM systems to protect vital industries. The Swedish airforce needs to have 40 steahlt fighters on top of the 60 Jas E planed for the future. The steahlt fighters should have a combatradius of 2 000 km. In short a larger steahlt Jas 39 E. There is therefore a need for SAAB to develop a such a fighter. Such a fighter would also be easier to sell on the international market. The steahlt coating should only be used in war thereby keeping the cost of flying the plane down during peacetime.

The weapon you’re looking at is the AK 5/5C it’s not an AK variant but for some reason the Swedish naming convention of weapons uses AK, the AK 4 was a Swedish made Licensed version of the H&K G3 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ak_5 The vehicles you called tanks aren’t tanks they’re CV90 IFVs, Sweden does use Leopard 2 MBTs as well as shown by the video

You only need to realize that Swedish does the opposite of english and write words togeather as opposed to separating them. "Norrbotten" is two words. "Norr" meaning north and "Botten" meaning bottom. Both are pronounced almost the same as in english, theyre just written and spoken togeather, as one word. If you said "NorthBottom" as one word, remove the "th" and switch the "om" for "en" youd be _very_ close to the correct pronounciation. Probably so close that it wouldnt even stand out to a swede.
