This guy is done what the mainstream media including the National broadcast KBC have failed to do in recent years. I wonder who finances the Kenya Historian to do this marvelous work of documenting the past and present of Kenya as it grow. Imagine, the attraction this documentaries is doing for both local and international tourism industry. But was amaze me is the knowledge of the producer and narrator of this documentaries... This guy is only a foot away from being hired either by BBC or National Geographic. Watch this page.

I think its mostly because of jealousy or hatred that SOME PEOPLE wont appreciate nor do they teach the real history about the pre historical era and not mentioning the Swahili tribes and there origins to the coastal cities. Even in schools they dont teach the real pre historical ere correctly.. they only start when the portugese came.

Mombasa history gies way back beyond Fort Jesus.....when Mwanakisi the Swahili Queen reigned ....thus peice has focused more on the recent Omani Arab and British colonialism and failed to touch on the indigenous Swahili people (The 12 Swahili Tribes/Thenaashara Taifa ) history. Meanwhile Mr Tolle is one good historian good work

"While i apreciate the good job done by these two gentlemen, i must also critisize the one sided history! During those days, the arabs, portuguese used to turn to the local community (musungullös/wanyikkas the present waswahili) for protection. Its sad that nothing is mentioned about them! we hear asians, arabs portuguises only.I am in possesion of some documents about the last siege of fort jesus which the present mijikenda played a very important role by helping the Mazuruis and defeated the portuguise! The Mijikendas placed nine people from every tribe to stop any looting the valueable spoils by exchanging the keys to a nother tribe every day! They were included in a delegation to oman and met the sultan and orderd that, they must be given every thing that was in the house except the gunpowder! We demand one hall/wing of this building to be remamed"MIJIKENDA HALL"and have their names displayed. Its only such a gesture that we can learn our heroes. Our forefathers payed a high price, time to honour them.

That is IF YOU WERE AN EXAMINER 😅... but the title isnt correct... should be like MOMBASA DURING THE PORTUGESE AND THE BRITISH COLONIAL ERA... saying its Mombasas origin is misleading the fact that mombasa and the whole of the coastal strip had it own city states and well flourishing in the Indian Ocean trade that time. And not to forget the native governing those cities were the Swahili Tribes 😅 (swahili tribes as in not the ones you think as the outcome of arabs intermarriges) ... just letting u know cz i know its not taught in schools wel enough.

Good narration of the recent history but Mombasa or Coast has a long history before it became part of Kenya. Long before the Omani Arabs, the British or even the Portuguese arrived. Lets tell a history of the People who belong to Mombasa too.

The title should be MOMBASA DURING THE WHITE COLONIAL DAYS. Its misleading to refer mombasas origin to a point where the portugese or the British colonial era!! I think its kind of intentionally to omit mentioning Mombasa Origin to the native Swahili tribes and the coastal city states.

@@KenyanHistorian there can be no doubt, as a matter of history and as a matter of law, that the Coastal strip was before 1895, and has since, remainded a part of territories reigned over by his Highness, the sultan of zanzibar. The 1895 Agreement in no way touched the question of sovereignty. Its only effect was to transfer to the british gvt responsibility for the administration of the area. If the agreement were terminated such responsibility would revert to his highness.

In other way am saying they are right the sultan rule till around 1962.... he had powers in the coastal strip too, though the administration part was given to the british for it interests in controlling the colony of Kenya.
