In the video, I state that the 80 in 2280 stands for 80 centimeters. It means 80 millimeters, of course. 80 centimeters would have much more storage! What can I say, I'm an uneducated American 😉

THANK YOU!!! I searched for this resource all day. I picked up my Jetson last weekend and have been playing with it using the SD but realized the SSD is pretty much necessary. I didn't want to put together an Ubuntu workstation to flash the new SSD (Crucial P3 1TB Gen3) thinking there MUST be a way to just move the SD data over and thankfully found your video and scripts. Worked perfectly on the 1st try! THANKS AGAIN!

Thank you so much for your amazing tutorials on the Jetson Orin! Your video on the SDK Manager and jumper method from a year ago was incredibly helpful-I was able to successfully install everything on a 1TB NVMe SSD thanks to your clear and detailed instructions. I also found your Jetson Docker Containers tutorial to be absolutely superb. Your effort to make these guides accessible and thorough is truly appreciated including your humor. I was wondering if you might have any tips on setting up a dual-boot configuration? I’d like to keep my original installation with JetPack 5.1.1 and add the option to boot into Nano Super as well. Any advice or resources you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all the knowledge you share with the community!

Thank you very much for the kind words. As far as I know, there is no dual boot method for different versions of JetPack. The issue is that the version of JetPack is dependent on the firmware. The firmware required for JetPack 5 and JetPack 6 is different. There is currently no practical way to switch firmware versions when switching between the JetPack 5 and JetPack 6. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for your quick and detailed response! What you said makes a lot of sense, and it’s probably saved me an entire weekend of trying to make an impossible dual-boot setup work. I really appreciate the clarification-it’s clear now that the firmware differences make this a no-go. Instead, I’ll likely just order a second SSD to keep things simple. I really enjoy the stable and reliable setup I have with JetPack 5.1.1 (especially for running Stable Diffusion) and definitely don’t want to lose that. Thanks again for all your help and for the amazing content you continue to share!

@@JetsonHacks EDIT: JUST DID THIS AGAIN AFTER INSTALLING JETPACK 6.2, GOT A MESSAGE 'Destination partition /de/sda1 has no file system. Skipping copy for safety'. SO IT LOOKS LIKE THIS DID NOT WORK (could even have failed before and I just missed the message...) I have made a backup, I have not tested a restore though... All storage device names are what they were called on my device, always doublecheck. Steps: 1. Get yourself a 64Gb SD card and USB drive (64Gb is fine for a basic Jetpack install, if your main partition is over 64Gb simply get a bigger one). Note: try to get a thin/slim USB drive. I got one that is kind of thick and had issues plugging in mouse, keyboard and the drive at the same time as the USB ports are close to each other. I got it to work but would 100% not recommend force I had to use... 2. Flas the latest JetPack 6.x onto the SD card, which was 6.1 for me. Aaaaand now I see it was just updated to 6.2.... sigh 3. Start up the Jetson Orin, went into the BIOS and set boot to the SD card. Went through the initial setup, get all updates etc. 4. Clone the github.com/jetsonhacks/migrate-jetson-to-ssd repo. 5. Open disks and make sure your USB drive does not have any partitions. 6. If you have expanded your NVME partition, shrink it back to a few more GB than you are using, to make sure it will fit on the USD drive 7. Run the make_partitions.sh script, with options -s /dev/nvme0n1 -d /dev/sda 8. It turns out the partitions on an NVME are named 'p1', 'p2' (so you get nvme0n1p1 etc). But partitions on a USB drive do NOT have that 'p' in the name, and the resulting partitions are named 'sda1' etc. The copy_partitions.sh is not designed for USB drives so a small change is required (be warned, I know practically nothing about .sh scripts but this worked for me..) Line 66, remove the 'p' in the DEST_PARTS: DEST_PARTS=$(lsblk -ln -o NAME -p "$DESTINATION" | grep -E "${DESTINATION}?[0-9]+$") Line 79, similar, remove the 'p' in DEST_PART: DEST_PART="${DESTINATION}${PART_NUM}" 9. Now run the copy_partitions.sh script with options -s /dev/nvme0n1 -d /dev/sda again and wait for the copy to complete. 10. Resize your NVME partition if you have shrunk it, shut down the Jetson and remove the SD Card and USB drive. It should boot from the USB drive when powering up, otherwise fix that in the BIOS. 11. Your USB drive should now contain a backup of your NVME drive. Restoring it is a matter of copying the USB drive partitions back to the NVME drive and probably running the configure_ssd_boot.sh script.

@JetsonHacks

You could write the image to a SSD if you have the hardware to do so. However, and the part that is tricky, is updating the firmware/QSPI. It should be straightforward if you are running firmware version 36.3.0 or above; there is a program in the image which will schedule the firmware update on the next startup. However, if you have an older firmware (as many current Jetson Orin Nanos do), you may need to do the upgrade multiple times, using older versions of JetPack. I don't know how much testing has been done on SSDs as an upgrade path from older JetPacks. Instead, what is presented here is a firmware upgrade method which people have been using for several months, the SD card approach. Once you get the firmware upgraded, you're most of the way home. Of course, the only NVIDIA approved way to run from SSD is to use SDK Manager to download JetPack 6.1 rev1 and install it. This is in part because this is an interim release, and should be fixed when the next JetPack version is released later in January. Thanks for watching!
@JetsonHacks
@JetsonHacks Ай бұрын
That's a good way to do it, but is more painful for more casual users. I noticed that the SDK Manager had some major hiccups over the last week. Hopefully the next JetPack release will be smoother. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the nice Video! Before I make a wrong buy I have a question to you. I am very impressed by the huge computational power of the Jetson Orin Nano Super module. I have a Perl program which makes a tremendous number of computations with very long integer numbers. I couldn't find anywhere the right documentation about how to profit from the computational power without using CUDA and rewriting the whole program. I am afraid that only one CPU (and one GPU) core will be used and that's all. Does anywhere a parallel Perl program exists? If yes where can I find it? If not, how can I make a minimal effort for rewriting the program and/or using CUDA? Many thanks in advance!
@JetsonHacks
@JetsonHacks Ай бұрын
You are welcome. As to your questions, I don't have enough experience with Perl to answer them. In general, in order to profit from the performance boost on a Jetson, you use CUDA. I don't recall Perl being used in that context very often, though there are certainly ways to incorporate it by calling C Code. The Perl implementation will determine what steps need to be taken for using it on more than one CPU core. You have to remember that the Jetson is an ARM architecture, so code designed for x86/Windows machine may be difficult to port. Thanks for watching!

Several reasons. First, it’s much faster storage. Second, it’s more reliable as discussed in the video because it’s designed for operating system use. The next text that appears is unreadable as it blinks quickly in super low resolution in the top left corner of the screen. I guess there's another line there, but can't read it. @ Now that I’ve got your attention, let me restate my question: How do I access a Jetson Nano remotely via VNC without plugging in an HDMI monitor? One common workaround is using a dummy HDMI plug, which generally works well-but plenty of people online seem to be looking for a more direct solution. Of course, SSH is often better, but I don’t remember all the commands by heart, so I’d prefer using a VNC viewer and seeing the desktop directly, without having to hook up a monitor.
@JetsonHacks
@JetsonHacks 28 күн бұрын
@@kh5lil I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish. NVIDIA has instructions on using VNC on the Jetson: developer.nvidia.com/embedded/learn/tutorials/vnc-setup You can use NoMachine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYrVhHR6p9mGl8k It depends on the host machine you are using. You should ask in the official NVIDIA forums, where a large group of developers and NVIDIA engineers share their experience.

@ I’ve got multiple machines running in different locations-like a Mac mini, Raspberry Pis, and a Jetson Nano-so I like using VNC with a vnc viewer to keep everything organized in one place. On my Jetson Nano, I installed a VNC server that works fine, but the moment I unplug the HDMI monitor, the connection drops because VNC needs an active display (either a real monitor or a dummy HDMI plug). Since I don’t have a hdmi plug. I’d really like to access my Jetson Nano remotely via VNC without needing to keep a monitor plugged in. There might be other ways to do this using no machine as pointed out , but I prefer VNC since it keeps things consistent with how I manage all my other machines.

If you just insert the SD card, it will probably boot from there. If it does not, you can change the boot order in the boot manager. To access the boot manager, hit the ESC key when the Jetson first starting to boot and you are at the green screen. You can also reformat the SSD which will remove all the information from the SSD that it would use to boot and everything else on it.

That's a good question, hopefully someone here sees it. I think the issue people run into is the way VMs handle USB. During the flash process, the Jetson disconnects and reconnects, and VMs tend to have trouble handling that. Over the years, people have come up with workarounds, but it is very dependent on which VM you are using. Thanks for watching!
