Oris BC3 - My daily beater watch

I release 3 videos per week, all watch related, including reviews, first impressions and general watch related topics.
I try very hard to diversify my content. Featuring known watch brands, microbrands, Aliexpress. Some I have purchased new, others second hand and I occasionally am given a watch from brands.
Being a smaller channel it is challenging to cover the cost of all the watches that I buy and partly because of this I have become an affiliate member with a number of companies including Aliexpress.

I know it is not mechanical but mine is a Marathon MSAR quartz I wore on duty. I considered it my work watch rather than a beater although it has the marks to say otherwise.

That is a beautiful watch. My beater is the Casio Duro with the Pepsi bezel. Wore it snorkeling and boogie boarding and it held up great!

my beater is a Seagull 1963. works well, almost every strap pairs well with it. it may be a placeholder while I'm saving for my grail watches, but what a placeholder!

@gavinwilliams1687 i know the feeling, however I chose one of my auto chrono to be my everyday watch and it was a proper luxury watch and wore it everyday to work for 10 years straight. Has all the scratches and ONE ding ;) i love it more for that ding now. So yeah u learn to live with the losses ;) it may loose value for resale but i wun sell mine it have timed a decade with me ;)

Totally understand. Love my G Shock CasioOak. My daily is a new model Longines Conquest. Before that I wore a vintage Rolex Datejust. Crown broke off and the movement was damaged. So I when I saw the Conquest, at a price for a one new one that was insanely low and couldn't pass it up. I buy and wear what I like. I have zero desire for outside validation. I wear what I love. If strangers are not impressed, I don't mind one bit. To many worry about what others think. Glad my parents taught me not to care and it stuck. Glad to see you are wearing what you like James . Refreshing to see a watch channel that talks about all kinds of watches and not just Rolex. Keep it up and I will keep watching. Take care James- Anthony

42 mm diameter (yay) dial design, contrasting colours, absence of dial clutter ... legible! !! !!! For my part I wear my good watches as everyday watches - GS, Seiko SARX, Casio Oceanus, Wise Adamascus.

I bought an Oris BC3 diver late 1990s for GBP550. It was my only watch for 20 years, until I expanded the collection.

James you are 100% correct, G Shocks are tool watches and are a must in a collection but... Not really a beater watch. Your ORIS is awesome. I love the day and date at the 6 that's awesome. Very Swiss in quality and design.

Great daily beater. I agree with you on the combination of a day and date complication always looking awkward on a dial, especially when both are stuffed at 3 o'clock. On your Oris it looks really nice it seems like some real thought was put into the design.

I have a Vostok, which was about 100£. And I have used it as a beater. I wouldn't recommend high vibration work (drilling into concrete, grass mowing with a petrol scythe, chainsawing), but it did survive the last one. But when I opened it up to try and regulate it, I had pity for all the little precise moving parts. I can't simply replace it, and it's rather endearing.

My beater watch is an original Orient Ray. It has taken nearly 20 years of hard use in all conditions and has proven to be reliable, durable and legible in all conditions. The original plan was to have something that I wouldn’t be worried about scratching or losing, but to be honest, it’s been with me on so many adventures I’d probably be heartbroken if I lost it. 😂

I have to admit it does look a lot nicer than the G-Shock even though I really like the square Gs. I don't know what you do, but it's good to hear the Oris is working out well for your daily watch. I used to wear a mechanical watch for everything until I went on a particularly rough cycle ride and it damaged the balance assembly on the watch I was wearing, now I wear quartz when cycling.

I get it! Even though I have cheaper watches that could work as a beater, I treat my SMP300 like a beater, and it holds up to everything I throw at it really well, and is no less for the wear.

Pretty much for the same reasons as you, I also decided on an Oris BC3! But I chose the slightly earlier version (BC3 7500), 40mm case with the day at the 12 o'clock position. Couldn't be happier with it as a daily driver! I still swap to my G-Shocks if I think I might damage it though! I'm sure it'll give you many more years of service.

Ahhh yes I feel I'm in the same camp as you, as much as G Shock is fit for purpose I can't wear it as a daily "beater". I have my Seiko Turtle for that and if a bit more "class" is required, would be the SPB143J, or Christopher Ward C63 Sealander GMT. Very nice Oris, an underrated model here. Cheers James.

I've been using a Ocean 39 Adventure as my daily beater and it fills the same niche for me. I've been switching between an erebus ascent purple helix and a san martin SN0142-G before and undoubtably will rotate back to those two, but at the moment the steinhart just feels right on the wrist

I can’t imagine a scenario where I would own a watch like that, wear the watch as it has been worn and then sell it. For me it would be like selling a friend. I had a Tissot prs200 for about 20 years and it was my only watch. Sometimes I wish I could go back to that. That watch is looking for a friend.

My Rolex Sub 41 no date is my daily beater. Over 2 years now. Looks like beater now as well. Should get another 15 years daily before passing it down.😮 Wore a 5 digit Sub for 20 years prior every day. ❤

I don't own any watches I'd be afraid to wear everyday and I'm retired anyway so there's that. My latest favorite is a Citizen NB1050. That Oris has style that a G-Shock just doesn't and I love G-Shocks.

my rule of watches is if im buying it it gets used as a beater- i have manual job but always careful - i daily a CW Dartmouth / Tudor Black bay pro/Tag Heuer F1/Omega pre bond. only one in my collection that doesnt get used at work is my Q timex x Hodinkee , ironic my cheapie watch is the only one that gets babied haha

Hate to dissapoint you, but that is not a luxury watch. If we go deeper, for me personally Oris will never be a luxury watch, since they just decorate rotors on Selitta calibers. A luxury watch is a high-end timepiece characterized by superior craftsmanship, premium materials, and often complex mechanical movements. It typically comes from prestigious brands, showcases exquisite design, and may feature precious metals or gemstones. Luxury watches are valued for their quality, heritage, and status symbol appeal.

As we get older, the G shock legibility takes an impact. Love the Oris, i would have bought a Seiko infact there is one on sale right now this weekends deal, sorry wun mention the website so search it that i have been eyeing for the SRPG17J. Perfect every day watch, can even dress it up and that movement 4r35 is a solid movement. Aud 300 - 350 covered beater for next 10 years. The case is big enough for my writs but the dial is reasonable enough for ppl of smaller wrists to pull it off.
