With MetaHuman you can create complete digital characters in minutes complete with textures and grooms. Ornatrix extends the customization even further by allowing you to modify the generated MetaHuman grooms using the full Ornatrix tool set inside Unreal Editor. In this video we learn how to import a MetaHuman into UE, and edit it with Ornatrix.
Ornatrix UE is a complete hair grooming solution for Epic Unreal Engine.

This is amazing! I think this will save a lot of time without having to go back and forth between Maya and UE. Looking forward to checking it out when it's released!

Very cool, just a question, if i have ornatrix for maya, can i send the hair from maya to unreal engine, and then use ornatrix ue version to further edit the hair?

In V3/V4 you can export hair as .ox.usd file and import it in UE to get the full operator stack. You will need to import surface geometry separately though.

@@marselkhadiyev4737 awesome thank you Marsel Khadiyev. Will give it a try using .ox and .usd. I used to import it using alembic .abc format from maya to ue4 i figure it wont work with alembic the editing once in unreal??

You can still do that with Alembic and convert the groom to ox once in UE but the operator stack info will be lost

@@marselkhadiyev4737 Thank you Marsel. i ll be great to to be able to convert any .abc alembic hair to ornatrix in ue4, but I have tried all alembic files that i made in maya, when i import to unreal engine it is imported as groom and it is great, but When i go to the ornatrix tab, and press the unlock button, ue4 immediately crashes. happens everytime i try to unlock it to make the .abc to ornatrix

what format does the metahuman groom imported into ue4 were using? is it alembic? can i convert any alembic hair and style it using ornatrix? Thanks

MetaHuman assets must be exported directly from Quixel Bridge (both apps open), so there is no specific format. Yes, you can import Alembic grooms and continue editing them with Ornatrix.

After converting it to ornatrix hair you can export it as USD using the Generate Groom option.

Alot of crashes editing metahuman now with latest build. When toggling the button back to switch the hair back to unreal groom, ue4 crashed. Editing the hair is also very slow with lag. Can we edit the metahuman hair without creating the mesh?

Hi, Please create a bug report on our forums for any issues you may find. Provide as much details as possible and steps to reproduce the bugs or crashes. To be able to edit the hair, Ornatrix needs a static mesh, so skeletal meshes need to be converted first.

Cannot say for sure but yes it should be soon, we still have a couple of things to work through, including UE5 port.
