I absolutely adore them. And to be honest i have been throughly frustrated trying to grow them. I am ashamed to admit that i have murdered a lot of them. My problem is they completely go crisp when dormant and i am not sure whether to water them or not. I hv tried several soil composition and changing their sun exposure but after some good growth end up losing them. And its wrenching to see them go. Can u please guide as to what watering shd i follow when dormant. We have mild winters just touching 10 degrees and never below 7,8 degree celsius. And yet they cross over😢

You are not alone. I have never been successful with them either. They are “divas” in my opinion. I grow lots of Echeveria indoors. And some aeonium with not much issues at all. But this one is not forgiving and very hard to keep alive. I have given up on it as I don’t have time to babysit a succulent. 😅 I have come to the conclusion that it would be best grown outdoors in the ground like sempervivum. But I don’t live in a climate where I can grow them outdoors in the ground. I eventually had to face this reality and now will not even attempt to grow this one again even though I love it so much. So you are not alone in your frustration and feelings.❤

More water could help but another comment above got me thinking... This little guy may just prefer to be in a colder climate. But then we are not that different- it fluctuates here between 18-1C during winter 🤔. If you do manage to get another one, i'd say more water, even in winter. Spring-Autumn i water these guys a lot, sometimes every other day, because they are so dainty and can dry/burn easily.

@@SucculentGrowingTips I think that might be my problem. Not enough water and they dry up and die. I’ll try some of your suggestions if I ever try again. Thank you for your tips! 💕

I love this one so much! But it has never done well for me. So I gave up on it! 😂 I think this one for sure is made for being outside. It’s impossible for growing indoors. I tried multiple times with no luck. I live in zone 5 so it’s impossible for me to grow outdoors. So this one I will never get to enjoy unfortunately. I wish I could grow them outside like sempervivum. Oh well! Great video! Not many talk about this one. Very helpful! ❤

That is so interesting and good to know 💚 I'm coming to the conclusion it may need to be cold over winter as someone else commented they are having trouble growing it in a warmer climate. You may be able to grow it outside as it comes from mountainous regions that get snow. I think that is why it goes so dormant and practically shrinks to almost nothing 😅

Hm have you tried to keep it "outside" but in a somewhat well protected spot? My sister actually buries some of her plants underground over the winter, as crazy as that sounds. Other people here overwinter cacti in their garage... If you have tried all of that already, pardon me smartassing around.

@@SucculentGrowingTips I definitely should try to see if I can grow them outdoors in my colder climate. Wouldn’t hurt to try I guess. The other issue is it’s not always easy for me to get my hands on one. Hoping it keeps up its popularity so it’s easier to get one. Then I will try my own little experiment. Appreciate all of your help and suggestions. ❤️

Thank you! Just started growing one of these. I would absolutely love if you told the names of the varieties. I think mine is a very small-headed one:)

@@SucculentGrowingTips Can you upload that as a bonus next time :D? On that note, I think my plants have finally reached a presentable state again, so the pictures I promised you like half a year ago should be around the corner :)
