I watched "Orphan" for the first time 2 nights ago and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Tonight I watched "First Kill", and I could say the same! I think Isabelle Fuhrman's age difference actually works to the film's advantage, because now she comes off as kinda eery and unnerving, as someone like Esther really would. Sure, it's a bit cheesy, but I liked it.

2:34 I wrote a sequel where Esther lives through the ending of Orphan (2009). I just said that when Kate kicked her and 'broke her neck,' that she actually just dislocated Esther's shoulder, (something Esther secretly knew how do to from the start.) I borrowed that idea from Lethal Weapon 2, with Riggs' straight-jacket trick. She would do that to escape her straight-jacket, but it cut the hell outta her wrists and neck, hence the scars.

Actually in the first film of the Orphan Esther is really dead because when the mom kicked her in the face she broke her neck... If you rewatch the ended one more time you can hear her neck cracked. FUN FACT: Director William Brent Bell use a body double for Fuhrman as the camera pans out. Actress Kennedy Irwin who also played young Esther Albright served as the double. So everything is practical no digital facial features or anything like that. This was a long waited prequel/sequek that the writers did their homework to call back on the story from the 1st film when Esther was staying with that family and they was in a fire or something like that plus the Asylum escape... Like you said I need to rewatch the 1st movie again.

Thanks for the review, Emma. I will definitely check the film out, though thanks for the heads-up that the "first kill" is not really the premise. I agree. I also would had liked to had seen Leena (Esther) 's origin, before she entered the psychiatric ward. Here in Los Angeles, California, it's been yanked off the big screen, after it's second week after it's theatrical release. I'm surprised, as I thought this movie would had been better received. I've read good reviews from film critics, and mostly mixed reviews from the audience. I watched it in a theater with five people, myself included. Personally, I really enjoyed this movie. I'd been wanting to see that kind of twist in a horror plot for a long time, and I think it was done well. This movie reminds me of "Stepfather 2: Make Room For Daddy" in that it is a completely unnecessary sequel of any sort, but because the actor is very good playing the main lead, one can't help but feel curious as to see how it goes, and if it's as good as the first one. I read a article that the filmmakers are game to make more prequels, like what happened with the Insidious franchise, only if Isabelle Fuhrman agrees to reprise. I'd say better stop at this one as I wouldn't like to see Isabelle be type cast as Esther, though I think it is already the case. Rather I want to see her in other movies instead.

The girl and her biological mother both denied it. They said her strange behavior alerted to the fact something was wrong as she started threatening the families other children.

On one hand my expectations are slightly higher following your review, I’m surprised you liked this one as much as you did! Based on the trailer my expectations were pretty low, and I’m a big fan of the first. But, your review also confirmed my concerns that they would turn this into a slasher with a bunch of gore. I loved that the first was largely a psychological film on how this girl/woman infiltrated this family and how she manipulated them all. It was far more about the psychological manipulation than the any of the “kills”. (And I think the nun was the only actual kill in the first as I recall? Aside from when the mom kills Esther at the end).
