The thing about orphan is that it makes me think about people that have growth hormone issues. Do they have a hard time finding love? I know that they aren't insane as Esther (hopefully) but it is hard to see someone that small and very childlike attractive and want to have a relationship with because you have to get past the wall of them looking and sounding like a child. This movie makes me feel scared of Esther but at the same time question how hard was it for her to find love and never receive it.

Isabelle Fuhrman in this role is easily one of the best performances by a child actor I've seen! I love this movie because i couldn't get the twist. Usually if I know a movie has a twist going into it, I'll figure it out most of the time. There's an urban legend about a little girl who wears ribbons, and when another kid took off the ribbon around her neck, her head falls off. I thought that's what this was, but did I ever love being so wrong! 😅 The prequel from last year was also good. Wasn't sure how they'd pull it off with Isabelle being an actual adult now, but they did well.

Isabelle Fuhrman played a very mature + intense role at a very young age of 12. But the scary part is that it is based on true events. Barbora Škrlová, who posed as a 13-year-old boy, and also involved in a child abuse scandal in the Czech Republic, where she impersonated a young boy named - Adam. Even after the movie was released, similar stuff happened with in Indiana, who adopted a Ukrainian girl - Natalia Grace. The part 2 of Orphan coincidentally (apparently) showed similar events.

This movie has been one of my favourites for years, I love the whole vibe of it, and how things are slowly uncovered and you can piece it all together on your own. I think it makes a lot of people mad watching it because of the dad, and how he persists that Esther is innocent (mainly because the plot just needs an excuse to keep Esther in the household) but I think that tension and hatred towards the dad and sympathy for the mum really adds a lot of emotion to the movie which really gets you on the edge of your seat, I love it so so much!

Yeah, it is true. However, I have had a back and forth with someone in the comments once, who told me, that she was actually a real child. He seemed to have deeper knowledge about the case and convinced me at the time, but I never researched deeper enough into it myself. So think of it what you want, as far as I'm concerned that "based on a true story" is only half true, because Natalia was actually a real child, who was treated badly and abused. But I've seen photos of her, she definitely had some sort of condition. But she definitely wasn't a full grown woman. 😅

Just saw this for the first time within the last 60 days, myself. I liked the slow burn of the movie as it built character and allowed us to see all the little things that make someone a psychopath (or sociopath, I'm not an expert) without it being all blood and gore. And, yes, that "twist" at the end subverting our expectations was masterful. There is a prequel to this movie with it's own twist, if you're looking to learn more about our dear, Esther.

i watched this as a kid, probably one of the first horror movies i ever watched and i don’t know what i found worse, her cutting the roses or the fact she wasn’t a kid… both had child me in shock 😭

I watched this movie for the first time this year, even though I knew most of the scenes and the plot twist it was an extremely stressful experience (in a good way), I knew what was going on and the movie still worked (not like most movies in which is not fun to watch when knowing everything). The requel is also very good and strangely surprising. ALSO I WOULD LOVE THE MOVIE DISCUSSION LIVESTREAM!

As a fan of Vera Farminga, I'm really surprised that you haven't watched the series Bates Motel yet... but yes, she is a classically-trained pianist, guitar player, is a professional folk dancer and currently has an orange belt in jujitsu :P. Also, her youngest sister Taissa is also a horror actress of some renown, being a recurring member of the American Horror Story cast.

No you’re 100% right! This movie has a gloomy and dark atmosphere. It took me some time to actually enjoy it as much as I do now.

you should check out the second one - you wouldn’t expect a movie like this to have a good sequel (technically a prequel) but it is actually extremely fun

I remember when I first watched this I was 10 and my best friend made me watch it. I had absolutely no idea that Esther was on the cover so I was completely shocked 😭 Definitely one of my favourite horror movies just because of the twist and I love Esther but it is definitely frustrating when you’re waiting for the characters to realise what you already know.

I went to see this and our audience was so full. I had to sit in the very front row. It was huge. So nostalgic now. And yes, the emotions you go through are how I felt. The husband and therapist were sooooo infuriating

I don't remember the name of the actor that played Isaac in Children of the Corn, but he had a growth hormone disorder too. He convincingly played a child when he was 24.

I can't believe I put off watching this movie for so long when I watched it. Even knowing the twist going in, I had no idea just how much Esther was going to put the family through. I'm very eager for you to watch the prequel. You go into it thinking you know what's going to happen and ready to just bop along on whatever wild ride you're about to go on, and then... :)

Not my favourite film but that final kick was satisfying as all hell, it was like something out of a kickboxing film which you really need after all the BS Esther pulls. One of the few times you can say, "I really enjoyed seeing the little girl get stomped in the face," without being a total psychopath 😂

Applause to your editor or to you for the " film reel" effects in the video!! Nice touch!! I love the fact that I didn't know about her age/condition until it was revealed. I'm happy I didn't guess at it. It added to the surprise. If I may, I would like to offer some suggestions for scary movies. The Omen (1976) part 2 (1978) part 3 (1981) .... I just found out there was a part 4 (I haven't seen that one) The Changeling (1980) Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
