I'm so petty~ If it was me, in this situation, I would've just sat there flushing the toilet all day, hoping he was on city-water (and not private well-water) & run up his water bill in one last petty act~^.^

33:47 i’m pretty sure it was happening because his whole family had supernatural abilities (except the dad) the sister had visions and finney was able to talk to the dead. that’s why when finn asked if the phone rang for the other kids they said, “it rang, but none of us heard it, just you”. there is also theories that the grabber had supernatural abilities too because he was also able to hear the phone. idk tho 😭😭
@liamnehren1054 Жыл бұрын
I would say that he was close to death and so saw the other side or the whole thing was subconscious analysis as a skeptic would say without a brain scan... showing that skeptics aren't scientists. Could be either way take the story as you will. The main character knew of all the children and could have seen his friend practicing swinging a blunt weapon for example. IRL the only way to be sure is the practice of the scientific method over years and as unbiased as possible.
@liamnehren1054 Жыл бұрын
I also just had a thought that I have had many times after playing "The World Ends with You", even if it wasn't supernatural and he wasn't speaking to the children but instead remembering them and analysing clues they left behind. The world truly does expand with every person you meet. Your world ends with you but through other people we are all sooo much more. "Their" knowledge, lessons and wisdom runs through us all. The collective will of humanity.
@drby163 Жыл бұрын
They mightve gotten it from their mother because when the dad was hitting the sister he said something like "you are not your mother" when regarding her dreams so the mom probably had visions (or some other supernatural stuff) like she did and passed it down to the kids

I remember watching the trailer for this pre-covid, and then it just disappeared for years due to delays. I was worried when I finally saw it that it wouldn't live up to to the anticipation, but it was so good. I love that each of the boys gave Finn a tool to beat the grabber, and their plans together are what saved him. Also, "Finn's arm is mint" right before the snap was an epic climax. Also also, fun fact, the actress who plays Gwen is the sister of young Nell from Haunting of Hill House (and the now iconic M3GAN, of course). That family can act their butts off.

Vance, the blonde that got arrested certainly did get got by the grabber. Yeah he was tough and a trouble maker but at the end of the day he was still a child (I think he's 14 or 15). Yeah he did all that stuff and it certainly was not good but a child still needs guidance and to be safe. Regardless of what, he wasn't any match for a grown man at the end of day, and he didn't deserve what happened to him. The grabber gets a new victim shortly after taking care of who he has, it's mentioned that after Vance was kidnapped there was an 8 month cool down period for the grabber. Vance was so angry as a ghost not just cause of just being a "naughty boy", but him being a "naughty boy" and so tough led the grabber to toy with him for that long. Again, deliquescence or not he was still just a kid.
@tipbgle2 ай бұрын
One of the things I liked about the decision to have Vance and Robin as such tough kids, is how true to reality it is, considering how many people think the victims didn't fight hard enough, or think being able to fight automatically means this'll never happen to you. They might've been tough kids but they were still just boys and anyone can be a victim to this kind of thing, even big kids who know how to swing. It's such a horrible reality and I really appreciated that this movie made sure to show that.

@@tipbgle exactly. I'm all for teaching people self defense but people really do act like if something happened to you it's just cause you didn't fight hard enough. I even once heard a father of a girl who was killed basically say that, that people like the man who hurt his daughter don't want people who fight and that's not even true. Some people out there live FOR the struggle and it gets them off when you fight. I appreciate the film for that too. It's just so sad. And the "good" kids didn't deserve any more sympathy inherently than the "troublemakers" because nobody deserves what they went through.

This movie is based in the Steven King universe. The abilities these kids (plus their mother) have is “The shining” which is the abilities that the kids in IT have, in the movie the shining and in Doctor sleep. They also have these powers, they all work a little differently but they’re all variants of “The shining” As for the Grabber, from what I understand so take with a grain of salt, doesn’t have other personalities. Each mask that he wore represents something that he’s ashamed of. The frowning mask who was the part of him who played naughty boy, he wears that mask because he’s ashamed of how he acts. But because he wears the mask he views it as a way of not actually have to confront those feelings and he doesn’t need to take accountability, kinda like a shield. Which explains why he freaks out when Fin takes his mask off towards the end, he’s no longer wearing the mask so he’s forced to feel that shame, regret, whatever he was feeling and hold himself accountable but he couldn’t bring himself to, hence the freak out. Hope this helped x

i saw people say 'oh the grabber isn't fleshed out enough bad movie booooo' but like. . . i think he was fleshed out just fine. he's not meant to be the takeaway from the movie. he's not meant to be an iconic villain in the sense that pennywise is (since you used the comparison lol) the kids are the point of the film. we don't get to know a lot of kidnappers' whole ordeal. the whole movie is based off stranger danger in the 20th century. with stranger danger you don't know the kidnapper's thing. so yeah i'd love a prequel at the same time only if its done to this standard or higher.
@PohjanKarhu Жыл бұрын
Which is why it's not that good imo. It's not a horror movie. It was marketed as a horror movie. But it's more like a drama thriller (and not even that) You don't need to know a whole lot about the villain for him to be an iconic villain. The grabber doesn't need to be very fleshed out. Actually, the less the better. The killer being an enigma is more effective. But they could've done so much with that. But instead they made a drama thriller for kids. What was the point in putting so much effort into the character design of the Grabber, and making up 20 different masks, and using the Grabber as the selling point in marketing, if you're not gonna actually make him a big part of the movie and a focus point? The whole thing with the kids and everything just wasn't interesting, nor particularly engaging imo. Pretty shallow. And the movie seemed to be told too much from a child perspective. Not too much children. But too much told as if to an audience of children, and not as if it's a movie aimed at adults. And then Finney kills the Grabber like nothing. Just like in a children's movie. So anti-climactic. Like, as a horror movie it lacks tons. As a thriller, it also lacks. And it doesn't even have enough focus on the characters, character growth and relationships for it to have a good amount of drama. It stretches itself thin trying to cover way too much ground. Some horror, some thriller, some drama. Never enough of anything to be truly engaging. Like, the domestic drama and the relationships between the father and the kids and the mother was very interesting and would've been great to see more of. So, if they weren't gonna make a proper killer horror movie, they could've focused on the characters and relationships and made a proper drama thriller. But no. And they could've chosen to focus more on the kids' powers, in a more engaging and mysterious way. But not that either. We didn't even get a proper murder mystery around the killings. Instead they had to make some boring ass movie where most of it is a kid sitting in a cell having boring conversations with ghosts through a telephone (which would've been way more effective if we didn't see them. Seeing them, with make up and all, standing around him acting, was just too silly. Like an episode of Goosebumps. The unknown is just more effective). And then some boring generic "We're looking for the missing person" footage, and some boring ass visits and dialogue from the kidnapper. Every scene was just way too shallow, not really exploring characters nor story any deeper. I kept asking myself, what's the point of this movie? What story are they actually trying to tell here? It all ended up being a huge nothing burger that went nowhere. If they make another movie, it should definitely not be to this standard. It needs to be way better. And don't market it as something it's not.

The book this is based on was written by Joe Hill, the son of Stephen King. They nod to each other from time to time. So my theory of the super natural elements is simply that the kids had the shine. In The shining, Dick tells us that most children do, in varying strengths. That's also why the adults of Derry in IT isn't really noticing what is going on, can't see IT etc. Notice how the grabber said the phone used to work when he was a kid, but doesn't now? He had the shine as a kid too.

The mum could talk to the dead and her kids obviously inherited that too. It's not a coincidence that all three have a connection to the supernatural I think :D

It's based on a short story by Joe Hill, Stephen King's son. So the Stephen King/Pennywise vibes are probably not a coincidence.

Literally him saying call me fin is reminding me of how old films would end with the would "fin" showing how he ended the movie himself.

In case you don't know, the man who wrote this short story that this movie is based off of, is Joe Hill aka the son of Stephen King. That's probably why there is some similarities like the balloons.
