One thing that concerns me today is how many young people doubt God's willingness, even eagerness, to forgive them. Father, how can people grow in their trust of God's love and mercy? The Greek people I know never seem to struggle with this, but I think many Americans do. Why is that?

Its the same with Latinos who were raised in Christianity wether Catholicism or protestantism and mostly if you were raised with parents that shown you the faith growing up, typically I noticed that their children will never completely forsake the faith, so it can be a generational issue. I also think it has to do with the strong secular delusions and societal standards within the western culture that lead many people astray into nihilism and with little to no faith.

@@Bruhdotcom777Yes, the Latinos have it, too. However, I see it even in Russian people whose parents were atheists. My hunch is that it is about stable families. If you know, in a deep way not just intellectually, that your parents love you, then I think it gives you a good foundation for understanding how God loves you. Some kids seem to know that no matter what they do, they know their parents will still love them. If your parents were unable to show you the love you needed, maybe you have a harder time trusting God. I would love to have OE flush this out more.

I struggle with this and yes I am an American 18 year old young man, I just committed the same sin; fornication, lust, adultery and lying today and I feel so ashamed. I wanted to isolate myself and it even got so far that a thought came up while I was praying to God and it suggested that I should just take my own life, saying how Christ doesn't see me the same as before, He won't want anything to do with me, how could He? I'm worthless, lesser than gravel. How could He forgive me when I keep doing these same sins and I sometimes even temporarily find pleasure in it. Then follows the shame and mourning afterwards, put I didn't listen to the thought because I knew where it came from. I knew that self deletion wouldn't solve anything and that would be an even greater sin than what I initially committed, so I just prayed and asked for forgiveness and emailed my Priest, he helped me and I know why I failed today. I think it was because I didn't attend Divine Liturgy and so, the Devil took advantage of me being idle. Which makes me feel 100x worse.

I'm blessed that God sent him and other teachers in my life, I know that I'm very far from God, I know my struggles, weaknesses, sins for they are multitudes but I have faith that God can change that and it will happen through the Orthodox Church. That's why I keep living, the Orthodox Church and its Saints give me hope that I never had when I was a protestant, it showed me that despite me being a sinner now, I still have an opportunity to be transfigured by Christ and become more than a sinner, more than even a human. He will bring peace and love and His Divine Energies if I please Him. It's just very difficult to get past my pride and passions. It's possible, just very difficult.

Confession is such a magnificent tool we have for growing as Christians! I broke down in tears at my pre-Lenten confession. Arrived in a fine mood, left with the joy only God can fill my heart with. May He save us all.

I thought lust was my main problem. By the Grace of God I am now having some significant success fighting against lust. However this has revealed a deeper truth to me. Lust was actually a function of Acedia.. Acedia is my real problem

This year of my life I have given the most effort I have during the lent fast and not just fasting from food. But what I have also seen thus far is the body of believers rising up to fight the passions and temptations all around me. If you fall into lustful sin again and again, you need to get the fear of the Lord, of which you will focus on judgment day, knowing that God will reject those who defy him. With that in mind, you will live for the eternal and not fall into the lustful sins of this world. This is how you remain clean.

Lust is particularly difficult because it is a good thing in the context of a Christian marriage. But for singles who seek to avoid lust, especially if they are not even dating anyone, is virtually impossible. Even monks must struggle with this!

We cannot help what temptations arise but we can help whether or not we give in to tempting thoughts and desires. The more we starve a desire the more it withers, and the more we feed it the stronger it grows.

It's difficult for me to say this, because I do not wish to cast judgment on my priest, but the couple of times that I have confessed my fleshly sins I was simply told "Do not dwell on it. God allows you to live with it," which is just not helpful when you want to cease committing these sins. I have actually stopped going to confession, because it felt pointless to do so when every time I get the same "advice". So my question is, is the act of confessing still healing and helpful for me spiritually, even though the worldly advice I receive isn't helping much? And also, I have never been advised to not partake in Communion, so how 'damaging' is that? Thank you.

To find a good priest you have to search “over seas and countries” (metaphorically speaking). In the real world I would advise just searching for the right priest, go to different Orthodox churches, seek and you will find it. Furthermore ask the lord to guide you, let’s not fully relay on our ambitions. God bless you brother, we are all in the same boat.

I hate this sin above all else, becouse i know its Godly (yes lust is Godly he made us that way Genesis 1:28) but problem is in modern world this adultery is more acceptable than ever (one last stands fwb's and other sick hookups) and once you fell in theres hell to be beaten in order to remain in him, and ignoring distractions. Because the Lord told His disciples, “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Matt 18:18) This authority to “loose” others from sin was given by the Apostles to bishops and priests that they ordained. We can and should confess to God whenever we sin but to be “loosed” from the eternal consequences of sin, we must go to Confession with a priest who has been given this authority from Orthodox bishops.

thank you Fr Peter, I just confessed for the first time & I sense I wasn't given enough guidance afterwards, the priest is a good man, but I felt I need to be me strict on myself bcz I need to be strict so althougg confession was good for me, I will now FIGHT even harder not to sin again & Lust is one of my weaknesses...I will be more violent on myself...it has to be done...
