Brother, from an American convert who became Orthodox almost five years ago, I thank you and ask your prayers for me and my wife and four daughters; This year, God has been particularly good to me, helping me to break the shackles of sinful habits, but i feel my inadequacy as a Spiritual infant. Though I am a grown man, I lack Christian maturity and I have spent much of my life chasing the passions. I have truly drank the emptiness of sin, particularly the lusts of the flesh. I hope, by and for the glory of God, to be a light for my daughters(recently baptized) and my Protestant wife(She allowed our daughters to be baptized because she realized my conversion wasn't "a phase"). Glory to God! May He have mercy on us!

Well said. It is really something surprising to see how Orthodoxy is growing in America. I simply hope that the programs maintain an authentic feel and routine that remains deeply connected to the original churches. I pray that Orthodoxy doesn't become "commercialized" or like another tacky religious movement that is so rampant in our society today.

I am so thankful to see these two fine teachers speaking with each other. Fr. Josiah stated, “So much of Orthodoxy is skewed because we want to talk before we live.” 14:29 - 14:35. One thing I was instructed to do during inquiry and catechesis was to pick up the prayer book and begin using it daily. To this day I remain grateful for that instruction.

I am a catechumen at 65 and I am coming up on my liturgical year. Very eager to complete the catechesis or so I thought. Recently I have been called to care for my parents as they are ailing with mobility and cognitive failings. I found how spiritually undone I was. Such attachments and passions within me was so wrenching to my soul. There was such anger such exhaustion I am so incomplete.. Although I am praying morning and evening and I have read the dogmas of the Church but I have not become as a child. I have learned through this season that I now see that this is a time of purification and development of the Phronema in my personal life. Do I want to take of the spoon and experience the mysteries or receive have absolution and confession. Absolutely! I want transformation and change. If it takes 2 years or 3 years or the rest of my life as a catechumen I am committed to becoming. I was so encouraged to see these men who have spoken Apostolic truth into my life. I wish I had a more developed community so that there would be daily services to attend. It would also carry with it the implication of there being a priest we would not have to share with other missions as well as an actual catechismal service for our church. I feel like our priest is stretched too thin between his family and the four missions he serves to be able to do everything we need for good and consistent spiritual growth, but I will also heartily say that this is still truly better than nothing, and I'm thankful we have what we do.

I was raised in the mormon Church went to Roman Catholic School and was introduced to Orthodoxy when my wife to be, not yet engaged, took me to Holy Friday Service after not being in any Church for nearly a decade. She thought if he can handle this he might be worthwhile. To this day I can’t express what happened to me. I only know my life was changed and that I would never be without Christs Church. I left my law enforcement profession for her and the Church. I have been blessed by your comments because I’m a perfect example of the perpetual Catechumen. Unlike my wife I don’t wake up on Sunday excited about going to Church. But once I get there early for vespers because of my wife’s duties in the choir, little mis perfect, just kidding my love and I have a chance to reflect, usually cry and beg forgiveness I change momentarily to a person that has a chance to keep the whole day without sin and leave thankful and recommitted. I know if I plug away, chip away at my hard heart, that one day some Sunday maybe not every Sunday but some Sunday I will experience the Joy my wife experiences every Sunday, God willing. The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church has been the greatest gift I’ve ever received from God through a Greek emigrant family and am so blessed. To those thinking about Orthodoxy do one thing before anything else, before reading a book or watching more KZbin videos, go to an Orthodox Church. Try to spend several Sundays before interviewing the Priest or parishioners to see if they are to your liking because regardless of how important they are to the Body of Christ the most important thing that happens inside an Orthodox Church is between you and the Holy Spirit. God forgive me a sinner.
