Hebrews 10:19-25 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

I completely understand how you feel. If you’re not in direct association with others who share your beliefs, and in particular leaders of the faith such as Father Spyridon, it is a very lonely path indeed. We need each other’s companionship more than ever right now and because of the state of this world, we’re more and more forced into an artificial seclusion. These videos are a special gift from God and I am also very, very grateful for them.

Another way to phrase it: Don’t look down (OR up) upon yourself, just stop looking entirely for awhile; struggle to look to others only, their needs. I can’t think of anything more effective at keeping the self off the self then to stay focused on every sort of WISE charity. Satan loves when we hang on to shame and become slaves to it, for it distances us from God. Shame keeps us from turning to our loving and forgiving God, it keeps us from repenting and leaving our sin in the past as we turn our hearts back to the Lord, it keeps us focused on ourselves, it leaves us powerless to walk in His grace and mercy, it leaves us cowering in darkness, and it makes us forget what Christ did for us on the cross. God does not want us to remain in our shame but opens up His loving arms to His children to come into them. Instead of letting shame imprison us, may we repent, turning away from our sin and back to the Lord who loves us.

@@palikariatl Without the need for pointing out the primacy of Peter, the Petros "rock" or "boulder", let us recognize the legitimacy of the priesthood of both the Orthodox faith and Roman Catholics. Both enjoy access to all the sacraments. I rest easy knowing any of my Orthodox brothers and sisters are well tended. Mother Church in Roman Catholicism does not need for any of her faithful to abandon her. She must be defended, and I would readily and without hesitation give my life for her. I do take your invitation as well intended, and I pray for nothing but blessings on you and yours.
@palikariatl

@@maryamevermore, there is NO primacy of Peter. The “rock” πέτρα (petra), is the rock of the CONFESSION of St. Peter that Jesus is the Christ. Christ said petra, not Petros. It is quite audacious of the Papist Heresy to claim that the Pope, Patriarch of the West (at that time) was correct, while the other FOUR Patriarchs of the East were all wrong. When Rome and her dictator the Pope went their merry way in 1054, they lost ALL Apostolic succession and all validity to their Mysteries (Sacraments). When one schisms from the Church, not even the blood of martyrdom can wash such a sin away, per St. John Chrysostom. Rome has been in schism and heresy since 1054, and has compounded her heresy with more heresies: papal infallibility, immaculate conception (which makes the Mother of God a “goddess” and not human), and countless other heresies which Rome has added to her basket of schism.

There are types of complete fasting where nothing at all is eaten, such as the first three days of Great Lent, Holy and Great Friday and a few other times. Going 40 days without eating anything at all is physically impossible! Not to mention people have to work, care for children and the elderly and much more. The CHRISTIAN Fast has always meant abstaining from certain luxurious foods in order to tame our flesh and will. Isaiah 58 ....Christ's Desired Fast. Observances of Fasts 58 “Cry loudly, do not hold back; Raise your voice like a trumpet, And declare to My people their wrongdoing, And to the house of Jacob their sins. 2 Yet they seek Me day by day and delight to know My ways, As a nation that has done righteousness And has not forsaken the ordinance of their God. They ask Me for just decisions, They delight in the nearness of God. 3 ‘Why have we fasted and You do not see? Why have we humbled ourselves and You do not [a]notice?’ Behold, on the day of your fast you find your desire, And oppress all your workers. 4 Behold, you fast for contention and strife, and to strike with a wicked fist. You do not fast like you have done today to make your voice heard on high! 5 Is it a fast like this that I choose, a day for a person to humble himself? Is it for bowing [b]one’s head like a reed And for spreading out sackcloth and ashes as a bed? Will you call this a fast, even an acceptable day to the Lord? 6 Is this not the fast that I choose: To release the bonds of wickedness, To undo the ropes of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free, And break every yoke? 7 Is it not to break your bread [c]with the hungry And bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh? 8 Then your light will break out like the dawn, And your recovery will spring up quickly; And your righteousness will go before you; The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. 9 Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; You will cry for help, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you remove the yoke from your midst, The [d]pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness, 10 And if you offer yourself to the hungry And satisfy the [e]need of the afflicted, Then your light will rise in darkness, And your gloom will become like midday. 11 And the Lord will continually guide you, And satisfy your [f]desire in scorched places, And give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water whose waters do not [g]fail. 12 Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up the age-old foundations; And you will be called the repairer of the breach, The restorer of the [h]streets in which to dwell. Thank you for this excellent video. A reminder to mothers: if you are blessed with a new life growing within your own body, your first obligation is to nourish that body and help it as much as possible to develop, gain strength and health. For that reason, the fasts that are normal for Orthodox Christians are not applicable to women who are pregnant or lactating. Do not fall into the trap of extremism, as Father Spyridon wisely points out here. The example of the Pharisee is chilling. Love your baby, practice greater devotion and remember you shall have the rest of your life to be as strict as you are safely able to be, in observing the fasts.

I learned that fasting is helpful in terms of loving more because when we fast, we orient ourselves to discomfort, pain and suffering. In turn, with grace, one is more readily sacrifice time and conviniences for the sake of others. Fasting empties us of our selves... and it is true that the danger of it as well is that instead of self emptying, it fills us of ourselves. May grace protect us from this, through penance of humiliations. When they come, let us gladly accept them for they serve as penances for the sins that matter the heart... pride. Amen.

I’m new to the idea of religious fasting and have never practiced it. I have tried fasting for health purposes and found it beneficial mentally and especially in self control. Look forward to learning more about the orthodox fasts and good to be aware of the spiritual dangers of fasting. Loved the advice to humbly eat what our friend may have prepared for us and not draw attention to ourselves.

I’ve been reading fasting with the heart written by father slavko of medjugore. I knew him for some time when I lived there, so lucky to have known him. I would not know where to turn had that not been in my life in the past.

Lack of self control is a weakness in our faith and believes. Evil is when we consciously sin.

Who can measure up to the righteousness of God by their own merit? There is none righteous; no not one. When humanity strives to be righteous by their own efforts, they inevitably become self-righteous and pompous. One is made complete through faith in Jesus Christ. Faith produces thankfulness and love and love produces humility and devotion. A thankful heart is a humble heart. I get this from Luke 7:36-50

A.C. now some enlightenment. The man died broke in some nasty hotel . So much for his Magick 😞. He never could even get rid of his heroin addiction, no matter how hard he tried . So much for mind over matter , thy will. ...Lord have mercy on his soul ! This was deep ,thank you Father.
