I am a Catholic (Jesuit) priest. Thank you for your thoughtful response concerning Eucharistic Adoration. I think the explanation you offered hit on something important, probably unintentionally, but valuable all the same. You first expressed a concern that the Eucharist be hidden so that we don't rely on our eyes and become overly rational in our approach to knowing Our Lord through the senses. This is true until we obey the command and consume the Precious Body and Blood. But then you revealed that to Eastern sensibilities the practice of Adoration seemed irrational. That is very true for Catholics as well! Beholding Our Lord for long periods of time does, in fact, constitute a spiritual exercise wherein the adorer must relinquish the usual way of seeing (rational, empirical) and begin to see with the eyes of faith. You'll find that the most sincere believers in the Blessed Sacrament are exactly the ones who take up the practice, and to enormously good effect, strengthening the faith.
