I'm learning Blender and this video completely clarified orthographic vs perspective view. Thank you. Well done. I recognized the Scottish accent and then saw your screen name "Clan MacCad." Love it!

This is fantastic. I have a new class of GCSE students about to start Engineering for the first time and I am going to use your videos to introduce the elements of Engineering Drawing to them. This will make it sooooo much easier to explain! Thank you!

I think most people know this already but now they know it much better and much more clearly. Very awesome video.

Helped me understand from a 2D/3D graphics programmer and game developer . So I'm implementing a orthographic projection setting a matrix to have parralel projection lines towards a or inside a square box clipping plane.

Awesome lectures on Engineering graphics. I really like the animation and the way you explained. Could you let me know what software did you use to make these lectures? Thanks a lot!

Cheers! It's all animated and rendered in Autodesk 3Ds MAX, then video editing is done in Adobe After Effects.

I've been using perpective as a 3D artist for a few years, and orthographic looks so wierd to me, is there any problem for me to use CAD with perpective?
@Maker-Clan7 жыл бұрын
I think it ends up being software based and output based. I personally use perspective in 3Ds MAX when doing more visual content or artistic style 3D modelling. Plus the navigation tools in max are really geared towards perspective. Toggling back and forth to line something up perfectly and be able to visually see it is so can be powerful though. When using AutoCAD or Inventor/Solidworks etc. I tend to end up in orthographic while working as it is usually much more similar to drawings you may be working from or working towards in the end. Again the navigation and orbit tools are a little favoured to that as well. What you absolutely cannot do, is produce engineering drawings or product design technical drawing with views laid out using perspective. It goes against all standards and would confuse suppliers/manufacturers etc. However while working on the actual models, you do you! :)

I mean i'm using it only for hobby and such, all the actual drawing i'm making in 2D in the sketch tool, so no problem? :D

Yes! But with a small caveat. Currently finishing off a part time MSc on top of work. That will wrap up in august this year. Got a lot more experience in a number of areas that will help content production too, so expect a serious quality jump too!
