Ortofon celebrated its 100th anniversary this past September 28th and 29th by inviting its worldwide sales and business partners to a two day event that combined a morning of "future tech" lectures and discussions with an afternoon tour of the company's Nakskov, Denmark headquarters.
The company invited Analogplanet editor Michael Fremer to witness the event and to participate by presenting a half hour PowerPoint presentation outlining where the vinyl market has been over the past 30 years, where it is today and where he expects it to be tomorrow.
This channel will soon present some of the video highlights of the Friday morning technology presentations but it won't include Fremer's PowerPoint presentation because the knucklehead forgot to turn on the video camera.
The PowerPoint presentation will be repeated elsewhere, recorded and presented here a short time from now. Meanwhile, enjoy the factory tour and read about the event in greater detail on the analogPlanet website

I will never again feel bad about paying higher dollar for a great cart. These people at Ortofon are fantastic. Just something special about some ( not all, p......) European manufacturers. Treat their employees great. Rega is another great one. Thanks.

I’ve always enjoyed my Ortofon Cadenza Black cart. but I now have a new appreciation for the amount of care that goes into manufacturing these precision instruments. Initially it was hard for me to get over the sticker shock, but after seeing all of the steps involved and the equipment needed to produce these, I’m honestly surprised they can offer their carts. @ their current price points. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the great tour! I own a Ortofon MC-3 Turbo that I use in my needle-drops on my channel that I've had for about a year and half now. I love the sound and it's about the lowest price MC cart that has a nude fine line stylus for great detailed sound.

A Dane invented the modern loudspeaker, though. Far more important, than the stock market 😊 And we have a large, proud list of HIFI speaker manufactures, like Dali, B&O, Dynaudio etc.

A really excellent video! I love your wit, a four axis CNC made by the Axis. It is wonderful to see how dedicated they are to the quality of their products and how gracious they were to allow open access to their facility. Perhaps next time you visit the name will be on the door, not that it matters.

After perusing countless forums chalk-full of self-appointed experts, dogmatic opinion and ill-founded certainty, it sure is nice to watch people who actually know what they are doing going about the business of creating the products we 'seem to know' so much about. :)

I would like to see the Diamonds being made it's one thing I've not seen anywhere! is it done by machine or by Human the facing, is it just grown into the shape or is it ground by hand? I'm assuming they buy them in they don't make the diamond styli themselves. There is probably one company making it for every manufacture and it does have a bearing what type of diamond is it, not all Diamonds are equal in they're composite, in turn will affect resonance, something you should ask in the future what grade of diamond they use. there shouldn't be an issue using alcohol to clean the stylus it is an epoxy glue and alcohol doesn't dissolve epoxy resin or synthetic resin. getting it on the enamel coating of the wire might be a problem is probably why they advise against it. what type of wire is the coil, does anybody use triangular wire? was it silver or copper wire they were using. I would have thought they would have used sorbothane rubber! in the suspension! what is known for its dampening properties acoustically instead of just plain old rubber don't want to pay the royalties maybe!! what is not so great acoustically. I would have thought it'd be better to inject some expanding open cell foam into the counter lever ends not sure if anybody does this. Can you do an experiment for me Michael, I might have asked I've asked so many people some people say they do it and never get back to me or they never reply. I think the 92 degree angle is wrong! should be set at 88 degrees, you are riding the style the same on 88° as 92° but I believe you will get better results less jitter between the surface of the record and the styli, intern more detail cleaner sound better blacks plus less where to the vinyl. the only issue is depends on the length of arm and type of cartridge you got that the back end maybe!! a bit close to the record surface. you will need to lower the tone arm at the back about 4 mm dependent on the length of arm and your need to increase the weight to its maximum maybe because gravity not in your favour, in turn has a benefit in itself creating less mass on the tonearm. Could you try out Michael and let me know what the results are thanks! try a sibilance test with a test record would be the best test a before and after.

Some are grown and some are laser and machine cut. Namiki is (was?) one of the suppliers of diamond/cantilevers a lot of these brands used. When they stopped producing the born cantilever most manufacturers discontinued a lot of models pretty much confirming the source. I was told by Ortofon they source diamond from Switzerland and Japan. www.ad-na.com/en/product/jewel/product/record.html

thegrimyeaper here’s a full rant from Carl about Ortofon: Acompany that has been around for 100 years and only does $15 million is a failure!! Are you really stupid? 100 years of nothing, no growth, no expansion, that's called a FAILURE, no wonder you didn't finish college, you are a dope! Oh so your replacement is 12, you really are a dipstick! A 12 year old can do what you do!!! HAHAHAHAHA, and it took you how many years of writing imaginary sights and sounds, now THAT'S FUNNY .....WHANKER! Even SHURE dropped phono stuff, it's a dead industry, whanker. You probably think the old bag cell phones are ,making a comeback?
