The Japanese HAMBĀGU ハンバーグ is derived from the original Germany Hamburg, which predates American-style Hamburgers. The German dish contains ground meat combined with breadcrumbs, and sometimes onions. During the late 19th Century, that dish was introduced to Japan by European merchants, where it was further developed into a Japanese version. The Japanese HAMBĀGU and American Hamburger are two different branches that descended from the original dish.
