20 is your life just beginning. You don't even know who you are yet and that's the most exciting part of all of it, you will constantly go through phases, thinking you've finally figured your life out, finally figured out who you are, what you like, what you dislike, what you are willing to tolerate or put up with, what you want out of a partner, what you want out of life and every year it will change and you will look back and think "Damn, I was so stupid, what was I thinking" Or "I can't believe I used to be that person" Always hold on to those feelings and memories of all your failures and awkward years, never try to hide the past or what you once were or what you once liked, it only makes you stronger and wiser, It's an interesting and ever evolving journey that somehow feels easier as time goes by but actually get's more difficult.

Man i’m currently reminiscing about all the amazing memories i had as a little kid watching Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gumball, Cartoon Network etc. with my brothers. Time flies and it almost feels unreal looking back at those times, it felt so magical back then. Your mindset as a child was so different so when you look back it’s almost like you’re looking at an entirely different, magical-like world that is now gone. I’m only 17 rn so i’m really young and i do look foward to what life has in store for me, but man those memories from childhood i will always hold dear to my heart

I'm 21 working full time. I much prefer my life now vs any other time in my life but there are always things I miss from earlier parts of my life. I think the thing I miss the most is how easy it is to make friends in school. if you think about it, you are put in a building with maybe 1000 other kids and in classes with maybe 150 and those classmates change twice a year. if you make friends with one you can still hang out with them during lunch or after school even if you don't share a class and you get another pool of 150 people to meet every few months. now I've got like 150 people in my workplace and they don't swap out often, not to mention they aren't all my age. appreciate the time you have to be with friends in high school and college, I know I did.

They're either lonely, they're missing somebody, they're depressed, they're hurt, they're scarred from the past, they're having personal issues no one knows about, they have secrets you wouldn't believe. They wish, they dream and they hope. And right now, they are sitting here reading these words, and I'm writing this for you so you dont feel alone anymore. Always remember, don't be depressed about the past, don't worry about the future, and just focus on today. If today's not so great don't worry! Tomorrow's a new chance. 100% agree! There's so much beauty in this show. The world building, the lore, the depth of characters and so on. It teaches young people about how to be open minded and empathetic. Something all too often lacking in adults. I came to know of this show, as a 30-something parent as my son watched it. I was hooked, and my son and I binged the whole thing start to finish over several weeks every day after he got back from school and I from work. We laughed, we cried, we now have long, philosophical discussions about all the deeper meanings while (at the time of writing this) eagerly awaiting the next HBO Max special, which is apparently going to be centred around Peppermint Butler! Can't wait!...

Yeah as soon as I finished the whole thing I had no idea how to feel... although I felt exactly that, devastated. I was happy with how it ended, but I just couldn't believe it had ended. Distant lands really gave me some closure, and listening to the music or practicing it makes me feel like I'm still reliving it in a way. It's really engraved in my heart, though. I'm a little too old to have had this show in childhood and watched it mostly throughout high school as it was coming out, yet when watching it even through college as it ended, rewatching it several times after graduating college into my adult life... it never fails to make me feel like a kid again, while also giving me such a profound feeling of wisdom and like everything is going to be okay and is meant to happen no matter what happens to the world and what happens to me, like I can actually move through my life with a sense of excitement and adventure. I loved this show so much I even named my cat Prismo. It may not have been present for me when I was a little kid, but it truly feels like somehow it was, and that time doesn't work how we really think it does or something. This music emulates those same feelings. Thank you!

Adventure Time was really special to me. I struggled to socialize with other kids in middle school, and I didn’t have much desire to go outside because of this. But when I watched Adventure Time and saw Finns vibrant boyish personality it made me realize that being myself was the best way to attract others. And made me want to go outside and look for things to do. The more I watched the show, the more I could relate to Finn. He would go through heartbreak, betrayal, funny moments, loss of friends, identity crisis, yet he was still looking for the next adventure. But it wasn’t just Finn, it was Ice King too. A show that was once so simple to understand, later showed that all the characters are still human and go through the same things I would go through. I felt like I could relate to someone, and it helped me shape my personality. Thanks so much Adventure Time. My favorite show on Cartoon Network 2010-2018

She was so glad to see you. She turned on the TV. And there it was! Your favourite cartoon! Adventure time! The song played and everything felt good. You had the food and watched about 3 episodes. I was already an adult when AT came out, and I am British so it wasn't on TV (I had to scour the interwebs). It is certainly one of the greatest works of art of all time, and I say that with all seriousness. Most people just see the silliness and childish look, but what those people fail to understand is how singularly it manages to conjoin innocence, playfulness, profound insight, a very particular geeky humour, deep love and friendship, real adventure stories, a brilliant and cohesive epic narrative, insightful and penetrating philosophy, surreal innovative design, and novel artistic experimentation all in a form which can be appreciated by the youngest people and oldest. This is a feat which has not been achieved in any other art I have ever encountered. Not all episodes are of equal genius, and whilst Pen Ward did manage to find most of these elements of genius, it is a work of many artists and reached many of its highest moments under Muto's leadership. Rebecca sugar undoubtedly contributed moments of genius, as did Pat McHale, and frankly the whole team (including the voice actors). People talk about eh Sistine Chapel as if it were only the work of Michelangelo, but it was the work of many hands, and this is even more true of AT, and that is part of its beauty. AT is and always will be one of the finest things ever created and I hope that as time goes on more people will understand this to be true.

never watched the show growing up, But I watched the whole series earlier this year at 20. It's become something I hold close. All the stories, messages, lessons. Time moves on, which was not an easy thing to accept as I entered my 3rd decade of life. Eventually, the adventure ends. It's important to think about the adventures that will happen, that are happening right now, and the ones that happened in the past. Some part of us will always be back then. I won't forget that.

Even though my son is now a surly teenager who thinks his parents are really un-cool... When the new Fionna and Cake stuff came out last month, he was very insistent that we had to sit and watch it together as a family. Never under estimate the value and worth of this sort of thing. As a 37 Yr old, what you've just written feels partly what growing up feels like 😆. Don't sweat it thought. The sun will always rise and always set. There are highs and lows, but this is something that Adventure Time presents so well, and is such an important lesson for young and old alike. There's wonderful positivity, but there's also melancholy & everything in between. That's what life is about. It's not a series of binary events or emotions. It's all the blurred stuff in between, and all these events enable us to grow and improve as individuals. In the moment, some things in life truly suck, but on a long enough time line, negative moments become points of positive growth (if that makes sense... 🤔).

The lich’s lair sounds really really eerie and I love it, it sounds like an ambient theme to a scary dungeon from a video game, like your being watched by something from pure darkness, something you can’t see, the swirling sounds really amplify the eeriness of it. Where it’s just nothing but silence and the sound of your footsteps on the wet dungeon floor, I absolutely love it.

I didn't grow up with this show, nor have I sat down and watched it in sequence, so I never had a strong connection to it. Yet, seeing how positively it has affected the lives of all who have taken the time to experience it properly, I can say that it was THE show of a generation, there's always one of them every decade or so, this was it. Those of you who have strong memories attached to this time in your lives, I'm so happy for you.

Adventure Time is probably one of the best shows ever to be created. The adventures of a kind, brave, and a helpful human named finn with a stretchy dog named jake. I watched a lot of it and probably missed some episodes too, but still i watched the best and the lesson-giving episodes. It made me happy, feel smarter, feel nicer, and feel better. Then, the show ended the way that was very touching and very sad but still, the show was amazing. It teached me more than anything i would hope. Kindness, Trust, Hope, Friendship, and much more. Thanks for all of the joy and happiness you gave me and everyone. Farewell Adventure Time...

Adventure Time is so much more than a show. It's a portrayal of connections. Of growth and change, sadness and joy, yes kids can enjoy it but it's so much deeper than just a children's cartoon. I first watched it in my 30's and it is still my all time favourite animated series.

Yep! It's a masterpiece! Like you, I came to it in my late 20s, early 30s, through my (then) young son watching it on TV. We would watch it together and it formed the basis of so much of our bonding and understanding of one another over the years. He's 14 now, and we still regularly chat about Adventure Time and share jokes about it, as he gets older and experiences things (sort of) similar to what Finn went through in his teens (minus the whole sword fighting and magic, etc... 😆). As much as my 'Ambient Time' albums are about Adventure Time, they're also about my own experiences as a father, raising a son, with Adventure Time as a linchpin in our father/son relationship. I feel like it's something we'll always be able to return to, no matter what happen in life, as we both get older.

Awesome! Glad you like it. Yeah, the original soundtrack work on AT is insanely brilliant! From a musically-academic standpoint, it's honestly bordering on genius. It so often seems loose, semi-random and like it's coming apart at the scenes (like the post apocalyptic land in which it's set), yet there's actually a very clever design and order to everything; controlled, orderly chaos if you prefer. It takes a special talent and insight to create music this way. A skill most musicians, myself included, don't really have. Masterful stuff!

I believe I was just starting high school when Finn and Princess Bubblegum made a royal promise to each other. It almost seems like yesterday. When the show ended, it was like a part of me left with it. When I saw Distant Lands for the first time, it was like memories were flooding back to me. I’m in my late 20s now, soon to be 30 in a few years. Looking back, I keep remembering moments from both the show, and from events that happened to me in real life. It makes me feel nostalgic. I remember a quote from Jake “Bad buns make the baker go broke, bro.” I don’t know why, but this quote always pops into me head. I’m honestly excited to see what comes of the new Fiona and Cake series. Seeing Simon, Marceline,and Finn again, it will be like meeting up with old friends once again.

With Finn (and other characters) ageing and growing in sync with how the audience aged, was something of a masterstroke. It allowed for tremendous character growth and audience connectivity. I came to AT as an adult, albeit an adult who's inner child resided very close to the surface. I found that I resonated strongly with Jake and Marcy, who in their own ways spend time wrangling with aspects of adult life and such. The end result is that yeah, they really end up feeling like old friends and getting Fionna and Cake feels like it's going to be a heartfelt and meaningful reunion of sorts.

I think the best thing about adventure time is the idea of reincarnation. Not so much for itself, but the meaning on the series. Even in the end, nothing ends. Life is just a wheel spining all the time powered by all creatures and events, nothing is arbitrary, everything matters. Endings lead to beginnings and beginnings to adventures that will end. But there will be more adventures, always.

@opusscience
@opusscience 3 жыл бұрын
Wow! That's very humbling; to know that "Simon's in there, somewhere" struck that emotional chord with you, without you knowing the complex and somewhat tragic backstory. To better understand, here's the excerpt from my Blog about this song: I believe Simon to be the most complex and nuanced character in the show. He was an arctic explorer in the 20th/21st Century. He discovered an ancient magic crown, but after putting it on, it started to change his physical form and he slowly descended into madness (think Golem from Lord of The Rings, only much more charming, and powerful). The crown possessed him and bestowed him with the magical power to control ice and snow. This power enabled him to survive the Mushroom War and also save the life of the little-girl-vampire who'd grow up to become Marceline The Vampire Queen. As the madness further overtook him, all remnants of Simon were lost and he became the Ice King. He now rules over the Ice Kingdom as a depressed, self obsessed, crazy person who just wants to be loved. He also yearns for friendship, but his madness makes him often insufferable to be around. We only learn of the Ice King's origin several seasons into the show. In early seasons he's a comedic, non-threatening antagonist, who is always kidnapping princesses and regularly duelling with Finn and Jake, but is always easily bested. As the show develops and we learn of his origins, we're shown that Ice King was once Simon and that as he descended into madness his fiancé Betty (whom he affectionately named his "Princess") left him. Now, having fully descended into madness, he's obsessed with finding a "Princess" who will love him (clearly somewhere in all the madness, Simon's love for his "Princess" Betty is still present - heart breaking stuff! Reminder - this is a kids show!). Some of the Simon and Betty pieces throughout the show left me in tears. I liken the Ice King to someone who failed to address or receive help and support when descending into depression. The depression descended into delusional madness and paranoia, and Simon became lost to this alternate person; Ice King. The other characters in the show come to realise this over the years and stop viewing him as an antagonist and gradually welcomed him into their clique as a friend. In doing so, Ice King actually becomes more warmhearted, sometimes doing nice things whilst not fully understanding what he's doing or why (which of course, is the inner-Simon, something the other characters and viewers can see, but Ice King cannot - seriously heavy!). There are fleeting moments throughout the show when we get to see Simon shine through the cooky exterior of Ice King. One such episode contains a lovely song that Simon penned shortly before he lost his mind to the crown. In it he's explaining to child Marceline that he doesn't want to use the magic of the crown as it's making him crazy, but he has to use it's power to save her from dangerous monsters and demons and he's asking who's going to save him once the madness overtakes him. It shows Simon's heart and the the sacrifice he made; an eternity of madness, trapped inside the mind of Ice King; the price paid to save a little girl from demons arisen from the fallout of nuclear war. You can read the full blog here if you like: www.opussciencecollective.com/post/ambient-time Thanks again for your kind words. I'm glad you've enjoyed this album 😊

Sometimes, life is about having fun. And fun can be very different. Helping others can be fun. Fighting for some can be fun. Exploring can be fun. Listening can be fun. Defending things that brings joy to life is the same as defending freedom, hence why Finn could be seen as the defender of freedom. I saw adventure time premiering in Cartoon Network, it was at my grandmas house when I was a child, and I can say…it was a beautiful journey, I was along for the ride with Finn, now, it’s time to go have my own adventure. Grasslands gives me a point of view where the feeling of enjoying nature comes in as you appreciate every fine detail of this world. The beauty of nature, the one thing we all have when everything is gone. This moment cannot be recreated, it must be lived. I enjoy sitting on Cliffside's or visiting lush forests with beautiful rivers and lakes because it gives you a realization that takes the heaviest weights can be lifted off of your shoulders by showing you that anything that goes on in your life right now is something small that is a part of something bigger, everything seems more manageable to the point where you can finally make peace with yourself and leave your concerns behind. I think this piece of music out of the whole soundtrack, is the one I can connect with the most. Remind yourself that looking back at past mistakes is a good way to clear your future path and learn from what you do, leave the house and find somewhere quiet that represents nature as a whole. Be it on the grassy hills, the colorful blue sky beaches, forest, mountains, and even space for that matter. Space can equally be just as beautiful as it is terrifying in contrast to earth, star gazing brings you enlightenment and you feel a spark of joy knowing you too are grateful for this world. Life is short and we must take the time to enjoy it as much as we can.

I keep coming back to this video, and finally decided to read the comments. A lot of good conversation in here! Anyways, this is an incredible soundscape you've created, and I'd love to hear your musical take on the newest episode of Distant Lands.

Thanks. Glad you like the music and the chat going on. I absolutely adored Together Again. There's definitely something in the works in terms of that (and the other Distant Lands episodes we've had). I've started teasing my next Ambient Time Project, but I don't seem to be able to stop making them at the moment... expect plenty more content in the coming months.

For whatever reason I got SUPER invested in Finn's love life and am still personally emotionally disappointed that it didn't work out with him and PB

😆 I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. It would never have worked out. In a real world scenario, setting aside the age gap, I still think they were just on very different paths and were always meant to go their separate ways in that regard. They're better people and a better duo as friends, than they'd be if they were romantically involved.

Lovely. Several people have commented that this reminds them of Minecraft, which is awesome. I think the soundtrack work on Minecraft is masterful. A real lesson in less-is-more.

Im 21, i recently got into filming with old camcorders, and i also dabble in music 2, Nd this piece of work has inspired me to really let go, i used to care alot about what ppl thought of me and my work, nd i never really had a good sense of self confidence Even now, im scared to start life cuz i just came out of college which in itself was a very lonely experience. Finding this piece of work really is helping me learn to calm down, nd experience every moment, bad or good nd to actually make choices now that will benefit my future self. I really hope one day i can create really good art and maybe even earn a living. Thnk you if yu read this far, and i really wish everyone a blessed 2023

Oh man... I remember my early 20s. They were actually quite frightening times. It's a seriously daunting period in one's life, but just trust your gut and don't be too afraid to make some mistakes; that's where the best lessons are learned, even if in the moment they hurt. As for not worrying about what people think. I wasted, my 20s not creating any music for fear of people not liking it or whatever... It's probably my biggest regret as it set my creative development back about ten years and took quite a serious heavy toll on my happiness which in turn impacted badly on my family at the time. I was having a similar conversation the other day with a friend of mine who's in their mid twenties and in a similar position to you. The best advice I could offer is not to make the mistakes I made. Don't be afraid of failure, take measured, calculated risks, take small steps and take them often. Release your creative work, whatever it is, and don't worry too much about conforming to trends or whatever. You do you! Only once your work has spent a little time out in the ether, can you truly reflect on it objectively and grow as an artist, so it's imperative, that you release stuff in order to improve your own critical analysis. At least that's my theory. For example, I was known for making Funky synthwave music, then I go and make an Adventure Time themed ambient album, because I love this show that my son and I bonded over. Now this album is one of my most popular works and I continue to find much creative satisfaction making new ambient music. Would I have made this album if I'd worried about staying on brand or following a trend... So, just go for it! There's 8 Billion people in the world. At least half of them have an Internet connection. Some people are going to find you and dig your work. You just gotta keep at it and stay patient. All the very best 👍👍
